did not have other connotations?

I like it, but obviously feel I could never actually use it because of the, erm, other meaning it has.

This thread is really funny.

Another name I wouldn't choose for a girl is Antimony. I knew someone who did - one of its meanings is 'poison'.

Jade is another one - as well as being a semi precious stone it means a woman of ill repute.

Dunelm is quite a nice name, just heard it on telly. It's uncommon but quite tasteful I feel.

Dunelm is a shop selling soft furnishings where I live Grin

I was at school with a Candida - but no one thought it was odd. She used Candy as a short version. But I was at school in the 1800's when things like thrush and other unsavoury stuff (such as ankles and sex) didn't exist.

A school friend of mine had a sister called Candida. Not great, really. The siblings had quite regular names. They called her Candy IIRC.

KurriKurri · 09/10/2018 23:48

As a side issue - I've currently got thrush in my mouth and it's a right bastard, painful and hard to clear up Sad So I'm not having good thoughts about candida.

clary · 09/10/2018 23:48

Ah kurrikurri x post! This was in the Stone age as well 😁😁

KurriKurri · 09/10/2018 23:49

Her sister's name didn;t begin with T did it clary?

stellabird · 09/10/2018 23:52

Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungus (or form of yeast) that is the cause of Candida Related Complex and many undesirable symptoms including fatigue, weight gain, joint pain, and gas.

Don't do it !

clary · 09/10/2018 23:53

Haha no my friend was called Emma, obviously more Candidas about than we thought

KurriKurri · 09/10/2018 23:55

Grin - obviously a popular stone age name !

Spanish10 · 10/10/2018 01:10

Candida/ Cándido are very old fashion spanish names.
It means naive, that does not malice.

Fletchasaurus · 11/10/2018 01:57

My favourite quirky girls name is an epilepsy medication.... I'm gutted!

user348903890 · 11/10/2018 09:55

No, you can't name your daughter after a fanny fungus I'm afraid.

user348903890 · 11/10/2018 09:55

Didn't know Jade had that meaning Shock

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/10/2018 10:04

Candida is from the latin meaning white (Mammillaria candida has rather smart white spines, for example). So vaguely indicating purity as a girl's name, and merely descriptive of the colour of the fungus.
