To ask what spirit you use in Christmas cake?

First year making Christmas cake and I'm not sure which spirit to use. I'm not eating it so have no preference. I'm on a bit of a budget so cheaper is better!

Thank you!

I always use whisky.

Rum is good to use.

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 07/10/2018 23:53

Dark rum. Always use it to feed the cake too.

Thesunrising · 07/10/2018 23:53

I use brandy. Seems a bit more luxy & festive than whiskey for some reason.

AGHHHH · 07/10/2018 23:53

The spirit of the father, the son and the holy ghost [santa]

(Sorry).

DrFoxtrot · 07/10/2018 23:54

Brandy

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/10/2018 23:55

Festive spirit, obviously.

I’m also sorry.

Sirzy · 07/10/2018 23:55

Brandy

happystrummer · 07/10/2018 23:58

I use amaretto

QuestionableMouse · 07/10/2018 23:58

Okay brandy seems to be in the lead. Thank you.

We're a brandy family. My aunt makes multiple cakes so her recycling looks like an intervention is required once she's made & fed them all!

MollyHuaCha · 08/10/2018 00:00

It's brandy here too. Wine

crazyhairbear · 08/10/2018 00:03

I use ameretto

IHeartKingThistle · 08/10/2018 00:03

Brandy!

jellycat · 08/10/2018 00:04

Delia says Brandy so that’s what I use.

UpstartCrow · 08/10/2018 00:10

Rum or brandy Smile

DramaAlpaca · 08/10/2018 00:13

I use the cheapest whiskey I can get. It's going in a cake so it doesn't need to be a good one. The cheapest one you can get in Aldi or Lidl will be fine.

Riv · 08/10/2018 00:15

I put cheap brandy in the cake and “feed” it dark rum and brandy alternately.
If I have “caught “ a cake though and it’s a bit burnt but acceptable, I only feed with rum, which seems to sort out any burnt taste.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 08/10/2018 00:16

Amaretto.

LiquoricePickle · 08/10/2018 00:20

Brandy here. I use it in my mincemeat too.

augustusglupe · 08/10/2018 00:25

Always Bajan Rum.

NoParticularPattern · 08/10/2018 00:26

Christmas spirit obvs. Grin

Brandy, sherry, sloe whisky, damson gin. All very good options. I once put orange and lemon peel in brandy and used that. I can’t remember what this year’s will be- it’s a tier of our wedding cake so whatever I fed that with. Sloe brandy I think.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 08/10/2018 00:28

I use brandy, I e thought about using something else but don't want to risk ruining the cake if I don't like it or it tastes funny.

Rebecca36 · 08/10/2018 00:33

Brandy. I marinate the fruit in brandy for a while beforehand.
However rum is good so I'm told, and sherry.

WomblesAreCommon · 08/10/2018 00:35

I totally misread this as “in what spirit you use Christmas cake”, and thought you were asking if people used it to be nice or, like, somehow passively aggressively.

April2018mom · 08/10/2018 00:35

Usually I use brandy and fruit.
