All seems to indicate that it's now crunch time for the UK. In the style of another active thread, I'd like to ask you all what you'd go for if given a binary choice between No Deal at all with the EU or Remain.
No blame game or mud slinging, just simple polite answers please.

No deal

Moussemoose · 05/10/2018 21:54

We didn't win the war. Before the US joined it we would probably have lost it

I'm really sorry to inject some historical fact into this discussion but WW2 was won by the Soviet Union. Italy and D Day were distractions compared to the failure of Barbarossa.

If Hitler had not invaded The Soviet Union WW2 would have been lost. We need to thank Russia not America.

Goldenbug · 05/10/2018 21:54

We were never "all in". We never used the Euro for a start.

tattyteddy · 05/10/2018 21:58

Remain

boydoggies · 05/10/2018 21:59

No deal ( although voted remain in the referendum)

LeftRightCentre · 05/10/2018 22:04

Um, yeah. Okay Hmm

Moussemoose · 05/10/2018 22:08

LeftRightCentre yes that's right. Stalingrad broke Germany.

Just because the history you know doesn't match reality doesn't make you right.

molington · 05/10/2018 22:08

Remain.
Revoke Article 50 and Remain.

LeftRightCentre · 05/10/2018 22:18

Just because the history you know doesn't match reality doesn't make you right.

Yep, okay, those men were just a welcome distraction. Whatever. Hmm

REMAIN!

But since it won't be, I'll be the first to throw the leavers under a bus, the same way so many did during the Blitz. You reap what you sow, but if you think all of us are going to choke on it, guess again.

LeftRightCentre · 05/10/2018 22:22

Honestly at this point, just let 'em go to the fucking wall, seriously. It's not like anything will stop it. Scotland will leave, chaos will come to NI again but hey, they'll have their fucking sovereignty back and their royal family to keep them warm at night.

UnnecessaryFennel · 05/10/2018 22:22

Rumboogie, none of those links back up your assertion below:

Remain is not now an option, as we would have to agree to punitive terms - no rebate and therefore a ridiculously large contribution to EU, reduced voting influence, join the euro

That is what I said you were making up. If we remained now, we would do so on the terms we currently have, because we would never have left in the first place.

You may wish to argue that joining the euro would be a bad idea, but that wasn't your original point and you are being disingenuous to pretend that it was.

Togaandsandals · 05/10/2018 22:22

@Bunsygirl, great thread by comedian Patrick Kielty (whose father was killed in the Troubles) on why a hard border in Ireland would be a huge danger to peace

moredoll · 05/10/2018 22:23

Remain

Moussemoose · 05/10/2018 22:26

LeftRightCentre wow that's a massive leap. * "Yep, okay, those men were just a welcome distraction.*"

Every individual who fought and died believing they were doing the 'right thing' deserves to be remembered and respected. I have nothing but admiration for the men and women who fought and died and for those who were conscience objectors. From all nations.

However, historically and tactically in WW2 the role of the Soviet Union was crucial and is now often overlooked.

And that little debate shows how the Brexit debate is a nonsense, anyone who tries to interject with facts is dismissed with emotion and rhetoric.

Benjaminbuttonschild · 05/10/2018 22:40

hey, they'll have their fucking sovereignty back and their royal family to keep them warm at night.

Yup, their German monarchy at that

Talkstotrees · 05/10/2018 22:41

I would vote to remain.

I don’t believe no deal is a serious option or would ever be on a ballot slip as no deal is now understood to be reckless idiocy. However an accidental no deal might still happen given that reckless idiots are running the show.

Murinae · 05/10/2018 22:41

Remain

1tisILeClerc · 05/10/2018 22:43

WW2 was not fought on mainland UK soil. It was bombed but not occupied. This distinction and the understanding of what occupation is like is a very strong 'binder' for the people of Europe. There is a cemetery about 5 miles from me where 809 soldiers from around the globe died to free Europe from occupation. This is what the EU is about, and now countries from the east, feeling the stamping feet of Russia are keen to join. They see strength in numbers and freedom.
The French and others may grumble about the EU and some of the laws but deep down they understand that war between countries of Europe is pretty unlikely.
All the countries are 'sovereign' and there is no way a Frenchman will want to 'be' a German or Greek.
There are issues with the far right in many EU countries but even their leaders do not really want to leave the EU.
The slur made by Jeremy Hunt was disgraceful, comparing the EU with Russia, and he was duly called out by the politician who had spent years under Russian oppression.

BunsyGirl · 05/10/2018 22:49

Togaandsandals The Swiss border is not actually very hard...that’s the point..::

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 05/10/2018 23:03

Remain

QueenDoris · 05/10/2018 23:14

No deal will be brilliant. The food shortages, power cuts, rioting, rape and pillage will really enliven my dull suburban existence.

Jason118 · 05/10/2018 23:35

Remain for all our sakes

ShovingLeopard · 05/10/2018 23:40

Remain

Notveryadventurousname · 05/10/2018 23:45

REMAIN!
