Apple cider vinegar

I've recently spent 2 hours chatting with a stranger.

Totally normal everyday middle aged man and he said he's started having 2 tablespoons morning and evening of Apple cider vinegar with "mother (thats an ingredient I don't mean drinking it with his mum) in a glass of water morning and evening and he's lost 5kg in a short time.

No change of diet otherwise and no added exercise. So I've ordered a bottle of the right stuff on Amazon for £6 to give it a go. AIBU? was he BU? does it work? Am I grasping at straws with my 4 stone to lose?!

"mother" is the euphemism for the mouldy cloudy lumpy stuff that grows in wine as it ferments into vinegar, I believe. Eew.

specialsubject · 03/10/2018 21:18

nothing you put in your mouth will produce weight loss. It is what you dont put in that does that.

TeddybearBaby · 03/10/2018 21:21

You’re supposed to be able to remove warts with it so it must be powerful I guess. Let us know if you try it and how you get on!

Miladymilord · 03/10/2018 21:24

I love it and drink it every morning. No weight loss sadky

mycheapshoes · 03/10/2018 21:27

It made a verruca fall straight out of my ds’s foot so I’d be wary of ingesting it!

TeddybearBaby · 03/10/2018 21:29

@mycheapshoes that’s what I was thinking. If it gets rid of warts....... but then again I like lemon and that removed limescale the other day!

mushforbrain · 03/10/2018 21:31

Ooh can you explain how to use it to get rid of verrucas?! Bazuka ain’t doing nothing for my daughters ones! I hate them!

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 03/10/2018 21:32

I had a persistent verrucca that wouldn't go. Tried 2 tubes of Bazukka, can of freeze stuff, nothing worked. I'd heard that if you filed it every day and put apple cider vinegar on it it gets rid of it. Man, did that sting, proper eye watering, arsehole puckering, jesus christ stinging but it worked. Gone in a week.

PippilottaLongstocking · 03/10/2018 21:39

I thought it was supposed to be probiotic... I’ve drink it diluted with hot water and honey, it’s surprisingly good but I can’t say I noticed any major changes to my health!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 03/10/2018 21:43

It’s quite good for you

BUT you won’t lose weight

There is only one way to lose weight and that’s by reducing calories and using exercise to tone and burn more calories

squishee · 03/10/2018 22:04

My mum swears that along with honey it cured her arthritis. No weight loss though.

I mix it into my conditioner,1:1 with water, and I've never before had such shiny swishy hair.

mycheapshoes · 03/10/2018 22:12

We’d done weeks of bazuka with no effect then filed it, soaked it with ACV on cotton wool and stuck duct tape on every night.
Came to do it on the 6th night and there was a crater where the verucca had been!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/10/2018 22:21

In terms of drinking it, watch out for:
Heartburn
Indigestion
Gastroparesis
Loss of tooth enamel
Oesophageal burns
Issues with potassium levels - especially if you take insulin or heart medication

On the plus side, you can kill things with it. See verrucas!

RefuseTheLies · 03/10/2018 22:27

I love vinegar and happily drink cider vinegar just for the taste. It’s ace. But it’s never made me lose weight, more’s the pity!

Sommelierrrr · 03/10/2018 22:33

I think you are all missing the point somewhat.

If you drink some (diluted through a straw) when you are really hungry and about to eat a jumbo pack of crisps / chocolate... Your appetite disappears.

Voila.

beela · 03/10/2018 22:41

I haven't researched this but I can tell you now that if you drink apple cider vinegar and change nothing else about your diet and lifestyle then you aren't going to lose any weight.

If it was that easy then everyone would do it, nobody would be overweight, and the multi-million pound diet industry wouldn't exist.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 03/10/2018 22:55

@mushforbrain Try Wartner. Bazuka did nothing. Vinegar did nothing. Wartner got rid of 'em.

mushforbrain · 03/10/2018 23:04

Right, one way or another these verrucas are coming off! Thanks for the tips

SpoonBlender · 03/10/2018 23:10

@Eliza9917 Vinegar - particularly fruit vinegar - has live yeast in it. Giving up wheat/yeast and doing all the dietary changes that go with it would likely reduce your weight anyway, nothing to do with the vinegar.

NameChanger22 · 03/10/2018 23:11

On the internet it says it is a cure for fleas in pets and can lower your blood pressure. Don't believe a word of it.

I think a clever marketer of the leading brand of apple cider vinegar is having a field day on the internet making fun of all the suckers. Also, you can buy a normal bottle of vinegar for 30p, the mark up to £6 is incredible.

PoxAlert · 04/10/2018 06:55

Can't advise on weight loss. But it is the best heart burn cure and I've tried them all.

Also I'm sure it helps my IBS.

Ifailed · 04/10/2018 07:03

particularly fruit vinegar - has live yeast in it
So does the air that we breath, there are yeast spores everywhere, it's the basis for creating a sour-dough starter.

Furrycushion · 04/10/2018 07:22

Veruccas go suddenly anyway when your immune system finally recognises them. Just coincidence if you've tried a new treatment, I'm afraid. Anecdote is not data.

OhFlipMama · 04/10/2018 07:51

Oh that's fabulous for Hair, I do an apple cider vinegar rinse every so often and it's amazing after! Wouldn't drink it though.

isthismylifenow · 04/10/2018 07:59

Nols Grin

But yes, agree I got rid of a 10 year old plantars wart with acv, and Nols description is pretty spot on.

After that, there is no bloody way I am drinking it, I dont care if folks claim it will make them 21 again, I would rather look and feel 48 than drink that.

And i have ibs so I really cannot see how this can help any stomach to be honest, after all, it is vinegar..... acid.

But there is a lot of hype about it at the moment, its the new coconut oil.
