.... you lived in a block of privately rented and owned flats, you shared a drive way and one day came home to find some chalk drawings on the floor from one of your neighbours kids? Some squiggles, a stick man and a name of one of the children?

Would you speak to the parent and tell them you don't like it and please could you stop?

Would you ignore it unless it kept happening and assume the parent had dealt with it?

Would you speak to the managing agent, get them to come round, take photos of the evidence and send it to all 16 flats telling telling them how this would not be tolerated?

It is not the floor! It is the ground!

SemperIdem · 02/10/2018 19:25

I’d think it was nice children had been playing outside rather than being indoors all the time. If I thought anything at all.

Your neighbour sounds like a weirdo.

Spotsandstars · 02/10/2018 19:25

I would log with police. Or at least make him aware that you are prepared to. Filming kids for chalk drawings is nuts!!!

OurMiracle1106 · 02/10/2018 19:27

I see this on a pathway on my way home and I think “it’s nice to see the kids playing out” and reminds me of my own childhood.

JupiterBelle · 02/10/2018 19:30

Drawings wouldn’t bother me.

A neighbour filming my children would. And I’d be having words.

Perhaps now is the time for a child to take up the recorder and practise outside 😁

Notsohorriblehistory · 02/10/2018 19:33

He said “they were being filmed”.

Presumably alluding to cctv footage?

AuntBeastie · 02/10/2018 19:34

I wouldn’t care at all. Chalk will wash away when it rains.

I’m assuming your child is the wannabe banksy?

ButAIBUtho · 02/10/2018 19:34

Fuck sake it gets worse.

I just spoke to the neighbour who told my kids he was filing them.

He apologised, but told me they drew a penis.

Apparently my eldest son's friend had indeed drawn a penis. I didn't see any penis I must admit.
Which makes way more sense.

Has anyone seen American Vandal "who drew the dicks?"

Give me strength.

OP posts:
ButAIBUtho · 02/10/2018 19:36

It was just the one penis and the rest was a stick man and squiggles.

But still. Clearly that's what has irked them and clearly my kids failed to inform me of that.
My youngest didn't even know there was a penis until tonight anyway.

OP posts:
Notsohorriblehistory · 02/10/2018 19:39

Good on you OP for being honest.

If I were you I’d drop around a note. Explaining that following this evenings conve you now appreciate his position and would like to reassure him that your children will not draw anything offensive at all with chalk and, if they do, they will be forbidden from any further chalk drawing

dustiseverywhere · 02/10/2018 19:40

From your update I can see how that could upset and offend people, those with small kids and adults as well.
If there was an AIBU saying "a neighbour's kids and their friend have drawn a penis on our shared driveway AIBU to say something" then you would have a significant proportion of people saying that you shouldn't have let the children draw a penis on a shared driveway.

Chocolate50 · 02/10/2018 19:40

What? seriously? I wouldn't care its a shared drive and its only chalk, I think its actually quite nice for the kids to do things like this, there are lots of rude and obnoxious kids around, these ones seem alright actually.
You could always join in, get some chalk, teach them to draw cocks, they will have to learn sometime after all

Chocolate50 · 02/10/2018 19:44

Oh I see they are already doing this, kids are curious though, I mean just put some water over it and ignore it

theendofeverything · 02/10/2018 19:46

Blimey. What an overeaction! Honestly OP, I would just ignore. AS for chalk penises, haven't they ever seen this famous tourist attraction?

How would you feel if...
RomanyRoots · 02/10/2018 19:50

Send them out with those thick coloured chalks, buy several buckets from poundland. There is no law against chalking on pavements, the council do it all the time Grin

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/10/2018 19:53

There are some miserable twats around.

I used to live in a flat with a shared balcony. I loved seeing the kids play out there and they’d often come for a chat. They would sometimes play with chalk etc or on their ride on toys (all under 5 yrs). Another neighbour got it all BANNED because he thought the Mum should just keep them inside or take them to the park. Single Mum, 3 kids, pregnant (to twat number 4 who was abusive and she’d finally kicked him out).

Complete and utter wanker he was. As if her life wasn’t quite hard enough, he thought he’d make it just that bit more miserable for her and the kids.

🤣😂penisgate. Maybe it made your neighbour feel inferior😂🤣

Try not to let it get to you 🍫🍷💐

foxyknoxy30 · 02/10/2018 19:53

Christ if people take the time to complain about this they obviously have feck all else going on

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2018 19:55

Ignore it - it's a kids' thing.

Unless there are drawings of willies and/or obscenities, I wouldn't be bothered about it at all.

Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 02/10/2018 19:56

I was going to say - I’d go out later and draw a massive cock and balls.

But you have this covered I see.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 02/10/2018 19:56

I would probably tell children off for drawing cocks. Wouldn’t report it to anyone.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2018 19:58

Another neighbour told the kids off tonight and told them they were being filmed

I have a feeing that this might be illegal. I would report it to the police. What sort of creepy twat films kids (okay - he's probably just a twat, but I wouldn't like to think my kids were being filmed when they were playing)

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/10/2018 19:58

Bring out the smelling salts.

Holy hell, it’s a CHALK drawing of a penis, by a child. I couldn’t care less if my small children saw it, it’s part of the anatomy I felt half the population. There’s really no need for it to cause such a bloody big fuss.

Of course I’d tell my kids to tell their friend not to do it again, because it upsets some people, but Jesus wept.

Sorry10 · 02/10/2018 20:00

Tell neighbour you are not to film my children without permission from parent and if you do it again will seek legal action .

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/10/2018 20:00

...and yes, I’d have torn strips off him for having another go at the kids when it’s been dealt with AND more so for filming them. I would tell him if I see him filming my kids I’d be straight onto the police. (I don’t actually care that much, but he needs telling). Wanker.

AnoukSpirit · 02/10/2018 20:02

Some random arsehole had a go at me for chalk drawings when I was a kid.

I still don't get what the problem is unless they're drawing something obscene or possibly have crumbled the chalk so it's getting trodden inside people's houses. It's chalk, not spray paint.

I hate humans sometimes.
