How nice for you. My definition of female includes people choosing to live their lives as a female. So I too define woman as an adult human female.

How do you 'live your life as a female' if you are not female?

By the way, choosing to live your life as something doesn't make you that thing.

If I chose to 'live my life as a black woman' or 'live my life as a disabled woman' when I am actually neither of those things, would that allow me to come under the definition of 'a black person' or a 'disabled person'?

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:36

Your definition literally makes no sense.

NopeNi · 05/10/2018 16:37

I don't see the gay rights movement parallel either.

It's like everyone's saying "squares are now circles and there shall be no argument".

Not "some squares like squares rather than circles, and that's okay".

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:38

That's you that is actual lolled at that, thanks

Yes, it was meant to be funny Hmm you like your comedy references, that was one.

Wolfiefan · 05/10/2018 16:38

Baby red squirrel! Tooooooo cute.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:39

Is that not just the same argument recycled from homophobes that pointed to the dictionary definition of marriage when campaigning against gay marriage.

Not really, no. In fact in no way whatsoever is it the same.

Biological sex exists, peeps.

BrownPaperTeddy · 05/10/2018 16:41

That's an odd opinion. I guess you think women who care about their own rights and those of other women aren't feminists

You don't care about the rights of other women though. You care only about the women who think like you.

Any woman who disagrees with you is shouted down, insulted, name called, calked a man.

Explain to me how that is caring about the rights of women?

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 16:42

Making fun of classical feminism theory implies that you're not really a fan of feminist thought at all.

Yep. Feminism shouldn't be made fun of, nor questioned in any way.

Definitely not a cult. No siree Wink

Lichtie · 05/10/2018 16:43

Elephant.. I'm not asking you to agree with what I consider a woman, and I'm not asking you to change what you consider a woman, that's up to you.
I don't live life by dictionary definitions.
And I'm sorry you feel oppressed, I don't, but again there's nothing wrong with disagreeing and we probably have very different experiences which might explain how we have different views

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 16:44

How nice for you. My definition of female includes people choosing to live their lives as a female. So I too define woman as an adult human female.

Same. See, you're being answered. Clearly people don't want to acknowledge that, though. It's not the "right" answer, so wheeee it all goes round and round and starts up again.

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 16:45

Ah, the old 'we have a female prime minister why are you still banging on about feminism' line

Nope. It's the old "how can you say we live in a patriarchy when the clear and irrefutable evidence of having a female prime minister means that we dont"

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:45

You don't care about the rights of other women though

Quite a bold statement there! I think you'll find that I don't make distinctions in women's rights. I might think you're completely wrong and talking nonsense, but my view on whether you should have the same rights I do won't change.

Wolfiefan · 05/10/2018 16:45

Or you could stop now and leave the thread you appear to have driven the OP from?

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:46

how can you say we live in a patriarchy when the clear and irrefutable evidence of having a female prime minister means that we dont"

Go on, let's look at whether the percentage of women in parliament reflects the number of women voters and residents of the UK.

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 16:47

There's a clear need for feminism, but let's not pretend we live in a patriarchy when we obviously don't.

Facts remember? I thought we only dealt with facts Now?

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 16:48

You don't care about the rights of other women though. You care only about the women who think like you. Any woman who disagrees with you is shouted down, insulted, name called, calked a man.

THIS with bells on.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:48

It's not the "right" answer,

Because it doesn't make any sense. It's a personal belief statement. Why do you believe that? What evidence do you have?

RatRolyPoly · 05/10/2018 16:49

Yes, I know "meaningfully" is tricky for some people. It's messy, subjective and isn't black and white. Quite a lot of life is. Much of humanity inhabits some sort of grey area that defies definition.

I'm okay with that.

Honestly I think anyone who isn't okay with the idea that some social concepts have grey areas it's going to find life very overwhelming indeed. I know it's tedious, but it is sort of the way things are, don't you think?

Aaaanyway, let's talk about it on another thread some time, 'kay? And when numerous posters jump on to call me a "goady fucker", a dim-witted idiot, a raging misogynist devoid of empathy (that one's for you Eresh Wink), a sea lion or a paedophile you can help be tell them to back the fuck off while we talk.

And in the meantime... am I the only one who finds lobsters and other crustaceans adorable? I have to literally turn off cooking shows with lobsters or crabs on.

Note: definition revised to read "2) an adult human who meaningfully identifies as female"

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:49

Facts remember? I thought we only dealt with facts Now?

Yes, I've posted lots of facts Hmm

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:51

THIS with bells on.

What right would that be? The right not to be disagreed with?

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 16:52

Go on, let's look at whether the percentage of women in parliament reflects the number of women voters and residents of the UK

You can if you like, but how does that prove we live in a patriarchy, given we have a female PM?

I'll help again with the definition.

1A system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is reckoned through the male line.

Nope.

1.1 A system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are excluded from it.

Nope.

*1.2count noun A society or community organized on patriarchal lines.

Nope.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 16:54

Given that I have always been clear on this thread that the idea of a patriarchy is an ideological construction albeit one backed up by actual facts and therefore more robust than TWAW, I'm not sure who you think you're arguing with Zebra?

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 16:54

Ah yes, the sealions. Witty code. Not. (well, they started doing the I know you are I said you are so what am I route with the that's you that is) so a "not!" should be acceptable too.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 16:58

THIS with bells on.

What right would that be? The right not to be disagreed with?

You're either trolling or so blinkered... just.... FGS.
You're unbelievable.
Open. Your. Brain to what people are saying, you are still dismissing other women (your acceptable definition of women too to boot) by completely blanking the fact women are saying they are being shouted down, called men, and personally attacked if they dare to disagree with you.

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 16:59

Given that I have always been clear on this thread that the idea of a patriarchy is an ideological construction albeit one backed up by actual facts and therefore more robust than TWAW, I'm not sure who you think you're arguing with Zebra

Well it's clearly not backed up with facts is it?
