Well anyway OP, thanks for starting this thread. I’ve been wanting to hide a few topics for a while but it wasn’t that obvious to me. I’ve got it sorted now and think I’ll enjoy the forum more for it.

Feminists have no justification for believing that we live in a patriarchy. Yet they get ever so upset when others point that out. Your belief is quasi religious.

Yes, but feminists can give examples of why they believe we live in a patriarchy and back up their arguments with evidence. They don't just say 'we live in a patriarchy and if you don't agree with that statement you are a total misogynist, but don't you dare ask me to back up my assertion that we live in a patriarchy with anything of substance'.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 15:11

It's nice that you have such contempt for feminism Zebra. The other excellent feminists on this thread will surely disagree though.

StormTreader · 05/10/2018 15:12

"That is so not what has happened on this thread."
Really? "Prove" it.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 15:12

"If you dont like it, hide the board!"
"we have hidden the board"
"how dare you hide the board, we shall pile into your thread asking how to hide the board to explain how wrong you all are!"

Grin Yep, that in a nutshell

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 15:12

What we can demonstrate is that there are less women in positions of power than men. That women are more likely to be victims of domestic or sexual violence.

And? According to that definition we don't live in a patriarchy. It's clear to see with both a female head of state and a female PM.

It's also clear that quasi religious beliefs work both ways

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 15:14

You only need to scroll back, Storm. I specifically came here to respond because as a group you all decided to have a fun session slagging off women on FWR.

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 15:15

Really? "Prove" it.

No need to prove anything? It's there in black and white.

I love the way that idea of having to 'prove' that transwomen are women, when law and policy is being made up that statement, is soooooooo outrageous.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 15:16

It's also clear that quasi religious beliefs work both ways

The idea of a patriarchal society is something which has a lot of facts and evidence to back it up. TWAW doesn't.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 15:17

What did happen that people made this thread about FWR and started throwing accusations around about how transphobic the FWR board is, and some people came on to explain why they don't think the FWR board is transphobic

A lot on there ARE transphobic with people agreeing with them. If those being transphobic don't know or believe they are being so, of course they're going to say it's not as they can't see it! Confused Grin

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 15:17

It's clear to see with both a female head of state and a female PM.

Ah, the old 'we have a female prime minister why are you still banging on about feminism' line.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 15:17

Plus I agreed that "we live in a patriarchy" is a belief, so take down your straw man.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 05/10/2018 15:18

What did happen that people made this thread about FWR and started throwing accusations around about how transphobic the FWR board is, and some people came on to explain why they don't think the FWR board is transphobic.

This thread made no mention of trans issues until flashbac did. I know I'm repeating myself here, but if you go back and read that first page you'll see that it wasn't those wanting to hide the thread that even mentioned trans, let alone "throw accusations". If the FWR regulars hadn't piled in to tell everyone off this thread would have stayed as how to hide a topic.

I can't believe you can't actually see that.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 15:19

A lot on there ARE transphobic with people agreeing with them.

What constitutes transphobia in your opinion? Do you agree you are also transphobic to others?

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 15:21

If the FWR regulars hadn't piled in to tell everyone off this thread would have stayed as how to hide a topic.

But it didn't.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 15:21

I can't believe you can't actually see that

I can.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 15:22

But it didn't

ConfusedCan you actually not read, or something? Or being deliberately obtuse? It's all there on the first page.

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 15:22

A lot on there ARE transphobic with people agreeing with them. If those being transphobic don't know or believe they are being so, of course they're going to say it's not as they can't see it!

Well your definition of 'transphobia' is 'anyone who doesn't believe that transwomen are women' but you can't even give a definition of transwoman or woman to back up that statement.

So with the greatest of respect, I don't give a shit if you think I am transphobic (just realised this is exactly the sort of sentence that someone would screenshot without the above paragraph and put on Twitter to show how awful Mumsnet is!)

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 15:23

Yes, but feminists can give examples of why they believe we live in a patriarchy and back up their arguments with evidence.

But but but I thought beliefs and feelings were irrelevant in FWR discourse these days? Is it not all about facts?

It's nice that you have such contempt for feminism Zebra

I have nothing but contempt for your brand of feminism. I don't like bigots

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 15:23

It's either reading issues, comprehension issues or literally completely unwilling to see.
The closed off mindset of some is baffling.

tobee · 05/10/2018 15:23

Oh. I like this thread. Made me rush over to fwr boards. I love those women!

peachgreen · 05/10/2018 15:26

you can't even give a definition of transwoman or woman to back up that statement.

Why do you keep saying this? I've done both of those things. You might not agree with my definitions but I've done so. Honestly, it's as if you all get given stock phrases to use regardless of context.

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 15:31

Where, sorry I missed it?

I'll give you mine.

Woman = adult human female.

It's easy enough.

You haven't answered the questions about Stonewall and autogynophiles or the material difference between autogynophiles and transwomen I don't think? Or the definition of a transwoman? Where that line is?

Sorry I may have been bogged down in the 'who started it' argument! Grin

RatRolyPoly · 05/10/2018 15:31

nah, I'd say it was started by someone who knew exactly what they were doing

Er, LEM is about the furthest thing from a politically motivated mumsnet troll that you could imagine Confused Know your mumsnetters folks!

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 15:35

Where, sorry I missed it?

No, you just don't want to see it!

Oh and LEM has been around for absolute donkeys years, it's a very recognisable long standing name on here lol! Definitely not a troll,a plant, or whatever ridiculous conspiracy theory you're going to bang out next Grin
