I just put forks, knives & teaspoons all together. I no longer can be arsed to sort them. I put the spatulas etc in a jar by the cooker.

Aibu?

soupforbrains

Why did none us realise the horrors of the cutlery being darked on? The dreaded spiderwillie assaults?

If it's bad for washing, how much worse it is for things that touch your food.
Thank you soup! Surely thin must bring sanity to this thread!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/10/2018 13:28

here’s to 5 seconds more free time a day

Use it wisely Vinyl - for gin, and biscuits and daytime television.

catshart · 03/10/2018 13:32

This has never occurred to me! Thanks op I'm just going to throw caution to the wind and chuck it all in. All gets mixed up anyway (how, I don't know)

RibbonAurora · 03/10/2018 14:21

LakieLady I'm so chaotic that I have bras and knickers in the same drawer, ffs

Nice try with your underwear strawman. It's hardly the same thing, there are many compelling arguments ^

UnleashTheBulsara · 03/10/2018 14:52

Not to mention the highly significant risk of finger impalement by those little corn on the cob holders lurking ominously in every cutlery drawer. The danger will never end, you reckless bunch! Shock

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/10/2018 15:44

All this talk of cutlery drawers has reminded me that mine are a horrible mess, which I will continue to ignore until I have the sort of houseguests who might go rummaging for teaspoons and silently deem me a slattern.

Meanwhile I have daringly rebelled from the nativity set pattern I'm knitting, and have given shepherd no. 2 a grey beard and hair, instead of brown. There is a Wise Man with a white beard so it struck me as ageist to make both shepherds relatively young.

ALongHardWinter · 03/10/2018 17:55

Ooh you rebel,you! Grin

JaneJeffer · 03/10/2018 17:58

Fifty why do you label glass jars? You can see what's in them!

Suadow · 03/10/2018 18:26

Working in a Beefeaters restaurant, always had this salesman in with a new client to be wined and dined about once every six weeks.

I’d offer dessert then coffee, to which we always asked, if it was a yes
‘ in a cup or a glass’ you know the old Irish coffee trend... this man would always, and I mean always, laugh hoarsely, and say ‘ I’ll have mine in a bucket’ and laugh at his ‘pseudo witticism ‘ . Hardly original, and eeeeeevery bloody time, might have been the first time the clients had heard it but not me ......

Sooooooooo, next time he came in.... I said - he said, and I went to the kitchens, found a bucket, put the cup of coffee in in and proceeded to take it and put it on his table and walk away...... that startled him out of his salesy sleazy manner...... the client thought it was hilarious and gave me £10 on the way out ! Man never asked me for coffee in a bucket again....

SACRILEGE!!!!!!

@JaneJeffer

Some things look the same! Plain flour, self raising flour, strong white flour, cornflour.

Also when more than one thing is empty, I know what I need to buy without checking looking at everything to figure out what is missing.

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 03/10/2018 18:50

@UnleashTheBulsara

My corn on the cob holders are in a little tub... with a label!

Isitweekendyet · 03/10/2018 18:52

I'm pearl clutching at the sheer thought.

WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE TEASPOONS?!

Nanny0gg · 03/10/2018 18:57

I'm so chaotic that I have bras and knickers in the same drawer

Of course. As they are neatly folded it isn't an issue.

UnleashTheBulsara · 03/10/2018 19:06

@Fiffyshadesofgreymatter - I like the tidiness style you're rocking, but how many corn on the cob holders do you have that you need a tub?! I can only have about five (I had six once, one's gone off with the missing teaspoons, I'm reckoning)

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 03/10/2018 19:12

@UnleashTheBulsara

I have 16! But it's a fairly small tub. All the cutlery we don't use often is in a little tub in the cutlery drawer. So those little holder things and tiny forks for snails are in a tub. The fondue skewers are in a long tub. All nice and tidy... there is something very wrong with me lol

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 03/10/2018 19:12

I love the image of a wee corn on the cob holders dreaming of being a teaspoon, and then one night running off the the renegade teaspoons willing to accept the little guy!

paxillin · 03/10/2018 19:14

I have a strong urge to visit you. I would secretly sort the poor socks and spoons.

UnleashTheBulsara · 03/10/2018 19:25

Tiny forks for snails Shock They have teeth don't they?! They don't need cutlery!

JaneJeffer · 03/10/2018 19:29

Fair enoughFifty. I keep my flour in the freezer to keep the crawlies away.

JaneJeffer · 03/10/2018 19:45

Unleash Grin I don't think snails have teeth ?? Not that I've looked closely.

Itsmenotyouisntit · 03/10/2018 19:53

I haven't sorted cutlery for years now, although there's still a cutlery 'sorter' in the drawer they go in 🤔.. nor do I iron (unless absolutely necessary) or pair socks.
I'm a bum.

BabyTeeth · 03/10/2018 19:53

I have two dishwasher cutlery holders. One is on the kitchen table and contains unsorted clean cutlery. One is in the dishwasher receiving unsorted dirty cutlery throughout the day. At the end of the day after the dishwasher has run, the newly washed cutlery holder moves to the table. The one that was on the table goes in the dishwasher. And so on.

Justkeeprollingalong · 03/10/2018 19:58

I love this thread, no one is being horrible!!

Vinylsamso · 03/10/2018 19:58

Well, I’ve cooked my first dinner with my new jumbled cutlery drawer - no problems.
Really excited about the reckless upturning of the dishwasher drawer later though.
This thread has also inspired me to create one massive drawer for all underwear too. It’s going to be wonderful, what have I been thinking all these years?
This may just well be the day I turned to the dark side, as incidentally I woke up this morning (before this thread) and decided Ive had enough of washing.
Been hearing people talk about a Launderette near us that picks up and washes, dries or both (and folds!!) for the same price as if you did it yourself in there. I’ve been putting it off for months thinking that would be crazy of me because I have a washer and drier at home but I’m sick of it. I’m a shit washer, don’t keep in top of it,forget to get it out washing machine, don’t fold it in time out the dryer etc. It’s a total ball ache in my life and I completely begrudge every aspect of it. Today I did it! I sent it off this morning and it came back folded tonight. Amazing (trying desperately not to think about whose clothes may have been in before mine and look on the positives of feeling like a free woman tonight!)
