Just been sent a photo of my mother on a donkey.

I am supposed to react haha! How great is that?! She is, after all, 79 years old.
A donkey can carry up to 100lbs or 7st but my mother is at least double that, probably more.

I don't have a great relationship with my parents. I feel appalled.

Maybe PETA instead of Petra?

Lweji · 01/10/2018 07:18

Yes, tell PETA. They'll certainly thank you for bringing to their attention something they never knew about.

Oh, wait....

OP, if you liked your mother this wouldn't have bothered you 1/10.
Just let it go. Keep contact or not, you're just looking for an excuse to hate her more. Move on.

Prettyvase · 01/10/2018 09:35

Yes you are right. Shamed and embarrassed of my own mother.

Another reason to dislike her? Yes.

Not doing me much good is it? But actually airing it here anonymously rather than to her has got it off my chest.

Will send a link to my dad though if he wonders why I've not replied.

That's fine, but ask yourself why it got into your chest in the first place. You're just letting her get to you.
It reads to me like you have too much repressed anger and things like this that wouldn't give most people a second thought, seem to trigger an overreaction.
For your own peace of mind, I think you need to let go of that anger.

Prettyvase · 01/10/2018 11:49

How does one do that permanently Lweji? I manage to do so for periods but then something like this she does shows up her callous, unthinking and ignorant side and then I just get incensed.

OP, I would always give a second thought to a picture of a large relative on a donkey, I hate animal cruelty. You are allowed to dislike your mother and be appalled by another example of her unpleasantness. I think your planned response seems measured, take care.

Prettyvase · 01/10/2018 15:52

Thanks, and yes, I will.

OP, try to avoid getting incensed by this pic, far worse is how you say she's been with you and her grandchildren, I'd use the photo to say to myself "thank fuck she's not an influential figure in my kids' life" and think how good it is that you are almost NC.

Lweji · 01/10/2018 22:01

Do you think she got out of her way to be specifically cruel to that animal?
What about your dad? Did he ride a donkey? Was he happy that she rode one?
Why not have this reaction towards your dad too?

CSIblonde · 02/10/2018 03:13

Poor donkey. I'd reply sending recent article that donkeys are being crippled by overweight tourists. A UK owner of seaside donkeys has just been prosecuted too. Neighbour filmed them punching, kicking, & beating them.

PollyFlinderz · 02/10/2018 03:55

In the Middle East, typical cruise passenger hmm

I think youre letting your feelings about your mum make you look like an ass.

BanananananaDaiquiri · 02/10/2018 04:11

If you must reply, I’d just send a link for donating to the Brooke. Nothing else, just the link.

youngscrappyandhungry · 02/10/2018 04:32

I'd just text her something generic along the lines of "looks like you're having fun!" And then you can mutter "unlike the poor, overtaxed donkey you're riding" to yourself under your breath.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/10/2018 04:56

Why is your father sending you a photo of your mother if you are nc with her and have presumably told him how she treated you?
