To be mortified I just shouted 'fuck off you cunt' at my boss.

Bad day, terrible even. Was in a foul mood walking home from work. Crossing road at a T junction with my head down and a car beeped at me as it turned in to the minor road.
Assuming it was an impatient driver who honked at me to get out of the way, I looked up and shouted at the top of my voice 'FUCK OFF YOU CUNT!'
As the last word left my mouth I realised it was my boss and he was pipping his horn and waving to say hello. His window was down so I've no doubt he heard what I said.
We both looked at each other in horror as he drove off.
Shit, shit, shit.
It'll be ok, right?

Honestly I’d have found it funny.

I have also gotten so sick of perverts shouting at me on the street (less so now) and am more than happy to tell them to fuck off.

Sorry for your news OP.
If you feel really worried you could pretend you were on hands free?

itchybumhole · 30/09/2018 17:14

I know what the moral of the story is. Jesus Christ. I'm not advising everyone here to shout verbal abuse at their boss, am I.

The moral of this story fiffy is not to kick a someone who just found out their family member is terminal , when there down!

Isitsixoclockalready · 30/09/2018 17:24

You didn't know it was your boss and it actually sounded quite comical. If I was your boss I would laugh it off.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 30/09/2018 17:34

Sorry to hear about your family member, Itchy. Thanks
I think it would be reasonable to tell your boss the reason behind your outburst when you see him on Monday - that's if you don't mind telling him. I think he would be fine with you apologising without telling him why you were in such a bad state, but since this is an ongoing situation, and you're probably going to have more bad days, it would be a good plan to let him know anyway.

ForalltheSaints · 30/09/2018 18:23

Most bosses would laugh it off. Apologise as others have suggested and move on. I do think that it was unnecessary for him to sound the horn, incidentally.

UnderaRock · 30/09/2018 18:25

Eh he was being an ass. People who honk at pedestrians piss me off. I usually slow way way way down and take even longer to cross the road

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 30/09/2018 18:27

I think you will be able to explain it to him and it will be fine!

I did similar when I was 18 and walking home from the pub. Some kerb crawler was trying to get my attention and I turned and shouted "FUCK OFF, CREEP!!" At my dad , who had come to give me a lift home

sugarcoatedthorns · 30/09/2018 18:39

That's awful Flowers for you.

Your boss is clearly going to understand! These are very exceptional circs and you would have received a very different response if you had said this at the start.
but you have called MN ers it too now which is unnecessary and nasty, pot, kettle an all that

I wish you every strength for what you and your family member are going through and the journey ahead. Warmest wishes

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 30/09/2018 19:10

@UnderaRock

He honked so she would look up and he could wave at her. He wasn't being an ass; he was saying hi. Lots of men honk for other reasons, and lots of people honk to hurry pedestrians up and neither of those are ok. But he was saying hello. Ive rooted the horn if someone I know really well has been walking past, and I've been sitting in traffic and seen many other cars do the same thing. It's not being as ass.

itchybumhole · 30/09/2018 19:21

Are you female Fiffy? Because I hate being beeped at. It's usually a tradesman, courier or similar in a white van, leering out of the window and being an ass.

OP posts:
Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 30/09/2018 19:25

@itchybumhole

I am.

And yes, it sometimes is someone doing that. But the idea is that you look first. And it's certainly not uncommon in my wee tiny town for people to toot and shout "hiya" out the window at their wee friends. Ive never once seen someone swear in response. Unless it is an actual pervert.

itchybumhole · 30/09/2018 19:30

I get that that's the idea. And I get that I should have looked first. I'm not suggesting that effing and blinding in the street is a good idea... as my story highlights. You really don't need to keep telling me off like this - I already know.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow if it's something or nothing. Dreading work in the morning. ☹️

DownAndUnder · 30/09/2018 19:38

Only you know your boss, mine would find it funny.

Kittykat93 · 30/09/2018 19:44

Don't dread it. We're all human, and you were having a shit day. Just hold your head up and apologise as soon as you see him. Good luck Thanks

Oblomov18 · 30/09/2018 20:15

I don't think that most bosses would be that forgiving.
I think they would be shocked.
People beep at me all the time. Friends. Saying hello. I wave and say hi.
I think many people would be shocked at OP's reaction.

itchybumhole · 30/09/2018 20:21

I don't live in a small town though, where my friends might drive by and pip their horn to say hello.
I live in a big city full of twats in vans who think nothing of honking their horn at every passing female.

Show your boss this, if he doesn't get it (which he probably will)...

sugarcoatedthorns · 30/09/2018 21:23

You don't need to go into all that just tell him what happened

I don't think people are 'telling you off' just have a different view on all the swearing. It's clear you're angry and your swearing limits different to some here, but there's nothing for it but just being straight with hihim. He got caught in your firing line! Did he look shocked/horrified at your reaction...you don't say. All you say is he smiled and wavedbut surely he then reacted to the screaming swearing? How? That should guide you to your approach to him.
I think it's reasonable to apologise and given your circs, I would think he'd see reason and have sympathy, have you any reason to think he wouldn't when you tell him your news?

I don't know how this is any way funny right now either, especially given the news.

Lethaldrizzle · 30/09/2018 21:27

I get lots of verbal abuse. I'm a cyclist. I've never called any one a cunt let alone a fucking one.

sugarcoatedthorns · 30/09/2018 21:34

lethal its crap to be treated that way, especially cycling, the more vulnerable one on the road! Glad you can keep your cool on the road really wish more could, dangerous concoction.

Kittykat89 · 30/09/2018 21:38

Clearly it's not ideal but I think it's very likely he will just find it funny, and even if not he may just not say anything (I don't think your job is in danger, just a potential awkward few days). Keeping my fingers crossed for you OP and please let us know that all is okay tomorrow. Hope he is the sort of feminist that understands how demoralising it is to constantly be beeped at by the kind of man that views women as aesthetics only. Those types deserve the language you used, and I wonder if people would feel so strongly about a man shouting the same sentence or if what makes it offensive is your lack of "ladylike manners". In which case, channel Helen Mirren and remember we ought to tell people to fuck off more often as strong women.

Quartz2208 · 30/09/2018 21:44

just apologize and explain what happened

ProfessorMoody · 30/09/2018 22:18

I've never called any one a cunt let alone a fucking one

Well aren't you cunting perfect? 🙄
