To be mortified I just shouted 'fuck off you cunt' at my boss.

Bad day, terrible even. Was in a foul mood walking home from work. Crossing road at a T junction with my head down and a car beeped at me as it turned in to the minor road.
Assuming it was an impatient driver who honked at me to get out of the way, I looked up and shouted at the top of my voice 'FUCK OFF YOU CUNT!'
As the last word left my mouth I realised it was my boss and he was pipping his horn and waving to say hello. His window was down so I've no doubt he heard what I said.
We both looked at each other in horror as he drove off.
Shit, shit, shit.
It'll be ok, right?

I had a proper rant at a driver once, to be fair he did kinda attempt to run me over, I was already crossing and he lurched forward while I was in front of his car.
This was near work, and I then panicked as I convinced myself he was visiting our office. No swearing involved, but I still need to reign it in near work lol.

ittakes2 · 30/09/2018 06:39

You crossed a road with your head down and your immediate thought was the person who was beeping you was being impatient, rather than they were trying to warn you you were about to be run over. And then you swore without any regard for whether there was small children around. I'm sorry but you come across as either very entitled or you have a hard time dealing with stress and managing your emotions for which you have my sympathy. Can I recommend you call your GP about having CBT therapy.

Yourenotericlove · 30/09/2018 07:04

Where I work, this would lead to management 'having a word' at the very least.

Tink2007 · 30/09/2018 07:06

All of these comments saying “What if there were small children who had heard you?” FOR THE ACTUAL LOVE OF GOD. Please do get a grip. Children will not melt if they hear someone swear. Not will it damage them in anyway. It won’t turn them into a criminal, it won’t set them on to a path of destruction. If a child did hear, I would hope their parent would have the common sense to explain it is a “naughty word” and the person shouldn’t have said it. Job done.

No wonder we live in a generation of absolute snowflakes.

derxa · 30/09/2018 07:13

It's not funny.

PhilomenaButterfly · 30/09/2018 07:29

BruceAndNosh DS2 is 7. He hears words like that on YouTube and knows not to repeat them.

InertPotato · 30/09/2018 07:35

Might have been funny, might have been rough, maybe it's both?

If you have a good relationship, he'll laugh it off.

CoalTit · 30/09/2018 07:37

I hope your boss learns from this that it's not a good idea to honk at pedestrians. There are so many arrogant, pedestrian- harrassing, horn-misusing cunts around, it's easy to be mistaken for one of them when you honk at people you know.

PhilomenaButterfly · 30/09/2018 07:41

Emperor not in my DC's school. Last year's yr6, so 10/11, were a bit sweary, DD's in yr6 now, and says that one of her friends "swears out of school sometimes", but not in the playground. That'll all change in yr7! 😂

RickOShay · 30/09/2018 07:52

Grin Thanks for your concern flyaway.
I don’t have a problem with my job. I have a problem with my boss. Who funnily enough DOES need to grow up.

PhilomenaButterfly · 30/09/2018 07:52

SomeKnobend once when walking with XH, a WVM shouted "you're wife's got grey hair, mate!" I shouted back "of course I fucking have, I'm 40!" Confused

DadDadDad · 30/09/2018 08:48

@InertPotato - your post sounds almost like a poem when read out loud.

Maybe that was deliberate. Grin

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 30/09/2018 09:11

Doesn't matter if you technically have right of way as a pedestrian crossing a minor road, you're daft to do so with your head down and paying no attention to potential traffic

Gabilan · 30/09/2018 09:55

Shouting and swearing in the street is extremely unbecoming

Odd word, "unbecoming". It's one that more often than not is applied to women. You might want to look up some articles on policing anger. This one is good as a start.

itchybumhole · 30/09/2018 12:50

There's some right cunts on this thread.
I did look before crossing, obviously. Road was clear, head went back down to watch my footing.
People in abject horror because someone shouted a naughty word.
And someone even suggesting I get CBT immediately because I'm clearly not a happy bunny. Like they never had a bad day. Hmm

Call me a pearl clutcher if you want but if I was the boss I wouldn’t find it funny at all. The people who are saying “don’t worry, your boss will find it funny” can’t know that for sure. He may, he may not. However, if I was the boss and you apologised and explained you were under a lot of pressure, upset etc. Then yes I would be sympathetic and let it go. I don’t like the word cunt, I find it offensive (which is my right) but I wouldn’t base my entire opinion on you because you used it once. So your boss shouldn’t either.

Oobis · 30/09/2018 13:12

Hilarious!
In your situation, I'd be baking cakes to take into work tomorrow and preparing to be mercilessly ridiculed Wink

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/09/2018 13:13

I’m amazed by how many people think this is funny. I can’t even begin to imagine what my boss’s response would be if I had done this, but it would not be to find it hilarious or laugh it off.

Is it really just - normal to yell stuff like this now? Because I’ve never known anyone do so just going about their everyday life. Maybe if they were really pissed, perhaps?

If I were your boss, I’d think you were slightly unhinged, tbh, to overreact like that.

ProfessorMoody · 30/09/2018 13:15

Gosh, TheOnly.

Your boss sounds like a right cunt.

Polarbearflavour · 30/09/2018 13:16

Sorry OP, your post made me LOL!

I hope you are okay and that your boss is okay with it!

The comment about you needing CBT is ridiculous. Not everything is a sign that someone needs therapy. People have bad days all the time! Plus you would most likely be on a 12 month waiting list to get it on the NHS if your region offers CBT. And CBT/therapy/counselling isn’t a magic cure all.

MaggieAndHopey · 30/09/2018 13:18

I do think it is a bit of an extreme thing to shout right off the bat. I can see how a situation with a driver might escalate to sweary shouting (especially as I'm a commuting cyclist) but for the C-bomb to be your opener is really going in a bit strong. Where do you go from there?

Aeroflotgirl · 30/09/2018 13:19

So so people are not allowed to have off days then! If they tell an impatient driver to fuck off, they have mental health problems, gees. I am sure if op knew it was the boss, she would not have swore, get a grip people!

MaggieAndHopey · 30/09/2018 13:20

"very common"

@Flyaway78, it's been a while since I've seen 'common' used as an insult. Are you one of the Mitford sisters?

KathDayKnight50 · 30/09/2018 13:21

Tell your boss you were talking to a relative and wearing earbuds. You were actually screaming abuse at them, not him Grin

LOL! This is so funny. I know you must be mortified, but one day you will laugh about this.

You weren't actually in work time, anyway. It was all a misunderstanding. I bet your boss will be more understanding than you think.

Do keep us updated, OP!

KnotsInMay · 30/09/2018 13:23

OMG!

This definitely has a funny side.

Can you send your boss an e mail today saying ‘I am so sorry!’ and explaining everything?

Then... I understand, I have been like this. Then it dawned on me that one day my road rage could get me punched in the face, or worse (inner city gritty area).

So now every journey I set myself a target: do 3 things that get me a raised hand or a flash of thanks, and make 3 similiar gestures of thanks to other drivers.

It has altered my mood and means I don’t take my general mood out on my driving.
