AIBU?

To be mortified I just shouted 'fuck off you cunt' at my boss.

Bad day, terrible even. Was in a foul mood walking home from work. Crossing road at a T junction with my head down and a car beeped at me as it turned in to the minor road.
Assuming it was an impatient driver who honked at me to get out of the way, I looked up and shouted at the top of my voice 'FUCK OFF YOU CUNT!'
As the last word left my mouth I realised it was my boss and he was pipping his horn and waving to say hello. His window was down so I've no doubt he heard what I said.
We both looked at each other in horror as he drove off.
Shit, shit, shit.
It'll be ok, right?

I would be mortified also. He can't know what's going on for someone to react that way. You could say you'd just been harrassed and it had distressed you, say your apologies that he happened to be the target as that would never have been your intention...you will have something to giggle about at Xmas work do! ...he will also certainly remember you! I am surprised that he would beep at your in the street if he's barely met you?! Seems quite odd behaviour on his part dontcha think?

Good idea from Blackness78 to pretend you though he was your horrible ex, perhaps throw in a history of some mild stalking.

He shouldn't beep at pedestrians (even though it was done with nice intentions).

He would be a major dick if he brought this up at work on Monday, the exception being if he brings it up to apologise for startling you.

You should look before crossing the road - the next car might not see you and not stop in time. As a driver and a pedestrian, far too many people just plough straight into the road without even a cursory glance.

Shouting and swearing in the street is extremely unbecoming.

Oh ha ha...how v funny, not! I don't think it s gonna help making up such lies.

You make light of something so horrendous. Very bad taste.

Don't worry OP, someone in work pulled out fast in front of a car the other day, as she did so she realised her error and looked as she recognised the other car, it was our boss. Who had to slam her brakes on as she nearly crashed into her and was about to whack the horn when she realised she knew woman who pulled out. We were all pissing ourselves in the office. Woman who did it was mortified.

I'm a moody cow when stressed, but a muttered (not audible) fuck off would be it. Don't mention it. But maybe think next time. If you did that where I live & it wasn't your boss the car would stop & it would get nasty quickly:seen it happen too many times since I came to London.

Bless you! You have made me smile and literally lol. I am sure if you just said to your boss (whatever they like) you thought it was someone else (a twat ex or whatever) they would be fine. Just maybe look up next time xx 😉

If you were to talk this through, I think it would be reasonable to note that a man hooting at a woman in the street has a lot of baggage to it - I actually don’t think you need to justify a very hot headed response as many woman have been hooted at by many men since car horns were invented.

Why would you should such obscenities in a public street? That is gross and rough.

It"s not remotely funny and you let yourself down. Why would you behave like this just because a car beeped at you?

Grin Itchy you will laugh about this in years to come.
I dream about telling my boss to fuck off, it’s my bedtime fantasy.

I know it was a terrible thing to shout, but I was in a murderous mood

But we learn to regulate our moods.

We all have bad days. Why be that person who acts in a terribly common way because they can't control their emotions? Learn to communicate in a socially acceptable way please. This public anger is not anything to be proud of.

Why?

Do you have a really shit job?

Get a better one if that's how you feel about it and grow up.

@AGHHH
Its common decency. I get you don't understand it and probably never will.

@Flyaway78 I know exactly what common decency is but there's no need to be a patronising fuck.

@AGHHH you would have more credibility if you swore less.

Itchy - I would imagine that your boss registered your look of horror as you did his. I would also think that he realised you didn't mean him, once he'd registered that.

But I do think it would be politic, if you see him on Monday, to offer an apology and say that you thought he was just some random harassing you, not someone you actually knew. If he's a decent bloke, I'm sure he'll understand. Thanks for you (and Wine )

Well I am not a swearer at all, I have never ever said the F word before, but I shouted the word out the other day, I went to my new second hand , cheapo car, that was parked near my home,in this quiet village, and saw that there were two very deep elongated keys type scratches,, from the bonnet area,to the back of the car..

I shouted out, what fucking moron has done this to my car,, ( never said the word before ha ha ) and just at that moment, a oldie lady came out of her front door, she is the same age as me, 70 plus, but she just looked at me, and went back in her house and shut the door.. She is a church goer, and I am not ha ha,,

But the thing is, you hear the F word all the time now, in my local pub its used all the time by men and women, so guess the word just becomes common place these days, and then gets in your head when you feel angry about something..

Hmmm its still very common to shout out those words publicly and nothing to be proud of.

OP how terrible, can you say you stubbed your toe and you were shouting at the path. It is not so bad, when I opened this thread I imagined it was meant directly in their face. Haha.

Is work getting you down, maybe things need to change, At least it is off your chest, It is one way to get the message across Grin

Just apologise, be honest and say you were in a mood, wasn't paying attention and thought you'd been beeped as you were jaywalking.

Say you felt like a real idiot when you realised it was someone you knew. I remember a policeman getting really shirty with me as I beeped someone. He said a horn was to be used as a warning. I smiled at him and said I thought he was stepping off the pavement without looking.

You made me laugh though, couldn't help seeing the funny side. But that's 2 lots of 50p in the swear box.

Not on Mumsnet love 😂

OP that's hilarious and my boss would be in absolute stitches if I did this to her.
I'd be teasing my staff about it for months if one of them did it to me 😄
