Bad day, terrible even. Was in a foul mood walking home from work. Crossing road at a T junction with my head down and a car beeped at me as it turned in to the minor road.
Assuming it was an impatient driver who honked at me to get out of the way, I looked up and shouted at the top of my voice 'FUCK OFF YOU CUNT!'
As the last word left my mouth I realised it was my boss and he was pipping his horn and waving to say hello. His window was down so I've no doubt he heard what I said.
We both looked at each other in horror as he drove off.
Shit, shit, shit.
It'll be ok, right?

So glad this had a good ending at work.

If it makes you feel any better, I once accidentally gave the middle finger to a student's father. Luckily, he thought it was hilarious, but I was mortified and completely ashamed of myself.

People who think that swearing at someone in the street is the height of awfulness but then go on about their superior morality in order to make the op feel shit when she just found out a family member has terminal cancer...all I can say is you have a desperately warped sense of moral values. I can't stand this hyacinth bucket pearl-clutching at swearing while quite happy to be sanctimonious, self-righteous, and nasty. You can clearly have the language of a saint and yet still be a horrible person!

To be fair, when you hear a horn beeping, 9 times out of 10 it's an over entitled aggressively lasciviously leering fucking cunt that's doing it. Rather bad luck for it to be your boss. Still, your boss's contrition implies that he may have learned that beeping at women in the street is usually an aggressive act, and thus best avoided.
