Has anyone been to a psychic who has told them something that has come true?

Faerie87 · 29/09/2018 17:28

Just that really, years ago I went to see two different psychics about a couple of years apart and they have got things quite close to the mark, somethings that even I did not volunteer!

I am quite skeptical, so I tend to go into these meetings with an attitude of trying to be as poker faced as possible.

The last one I went to see said I would have a little girl, and twins!

I’ve recently had a little girl so she got that right! I know not that much of a coincidence! I keep joking with my oh saying it will be twins next time!

So, my partner thinks it’s a whole load of rubbish, I don’t, I try to keep an open mind!

Not really AIBU but would like to hear stories from other people about things coming true or not true and opinions about whether people believe there is something in it?

Xx

BertrandRussell the other things she told me all happened as well, and it wasnt 8 years ago, it was 46 years ago, but uit was 8 years after she told me ,the other stuff happened fairly quickly, she did thois with ordinary playing cards, have known other do this too
The other stuff she couldnt possibly guess at,and names connected with my family, very unusual names,
I have been told lots of things by others that have happened, and the chance of having twins was very remote, as none in family and didnt even plan any more children i had 3 already which she also told me would make 5, she said i would move from a house into a flat, didnt believe that as its usually the other way round, even gave me the flat no, and said its over a shop, described the shop etc,
As i said some are charlatans, not all
Never seen her before in my life
When i was pregnant i asked the Dr if i could be having twins he said no,just a big baby,he was wrong,i went in to have 1 baby and came home with 2
Also told me lots about my past, including names, places i had lived etc
Another described my brother who had died suddenly 2 years before, described his air force uniform and things only i would know

I've only ever had one reading a year after I lost my Dad.She told me very specific things about the day he died which nobody knew. I wasn't looking for comfort but I did find it comforting. She knew lots of things about him & his illness which is never told a soul.its a few years ago now & she told me I'd meet someone but I'm still waiting...

Littledidsheknow · 02/10/2018 18:04

I was massively cynical

Sceptical. Unbelievers (or disbelievers) are sceptical not cynical.
And all those "How do you explain x, y and z that I experienced then?" directed at sceptics, well...It's quite bizarre that it's the sceptics that always have "explain this!" barked at them about this sort of thing.

They are not the ones making extraordinary claims, nor believing in something for which there is no proof.
Mediums have been variously credited (on this thread and elsewhere) with the ability to:

  1. See into the future,
  2. See into the past, AND
  3. Communicate with the dead (who can also see into the future and pass on messages about it to you via the medium Confused).

Dear lord, why? How? How can you possibly believe this? When you encounter the seemingly impossible, does critical thinking not kick in and make you ask how this is even remotely real, possible or likely?

Can the believers explain to me how it's possible?

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 02/10/2018 18:12

I'd never go to a psychic as I hate the idea of my future already being mapped out. It shits on the concept of free will and makes me feel really uncomfortable, like there's nothing I could do to change the future.

BetsyBigNose · 02/10/2018 18:25

I am a total sceptic, but went to see a psychic on Bournemouth seafront nearly 20 years ago, when I was 19, as a laugh with a friend. I can't remember most of what she talked about, but literally as I was leaving the room, she grabbed my arm and said;

"You'll get married when you're 26. No, 27. No 26. You'll have 2 daughters and don't worry - you won't get divorced twice like your Mum..." I just sorted of smiled and walked out, didn't think any more of it, but my friend and I did write down her main 'predictions' for each of us.

I got married at 26, just before my 27th birthday, we have 2 daughters and are very happy - showing no signs of being divorced any time soon (let alone twice, like my poor Mum...)

I'm still a sceptic, the only thing I think is vaguely 'creepy' about it is the 'knowing' that my Mum had been twice divorced, other than that, just lucky guesses I think.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2018 18:32

You're not really a sceptic, you know. Otherwise you wouldn't say that you're a sceptic but......

Dogdogcat · 02/10/2018 18:50

When I was about 40 I went to a psychic for a reading. I was single at the time and had never had kids. She asked me about my son, I told her I didn't have children. She was surprised and was adamant that I would have a son, I just thought she was a bad psychic. At 49 I had a son.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2018 18:59

And if you had 't had a son, you probably wouldnnt even remember. Most women have children. If she was psychic, she wouldn't have thought you had one already. Tht's how they do it."you have a son--oh no, that's not quite right-you will have a son...."

Somerville · 02/10/2018 19:04

Some of the people you lot have seen sound like they can predict the future so accurately that surely they must have become millionaires? And then at night surely they must pull on costumes and become superheroes, saving people from fires and bombs and murders?

Somerville · 02/10/2018 19:06

I mean, seriously. If I had even an inkling about the future I'd be honing my skills trading in the financial markets not charging people £15 a time to tell them they have a son or if not will have one in the future.

Splurge77 · 02/10/2018 19:10

I’m a sceptic and think it’s beyond naive to believe given how thoroughly and consistently psychics have been debunked.

Piggyhoolier · 02/10/2018 19:10

I really don’t believe in anything ‘woo’ but I do try to keep an open mind as to possibilities of mediums and the paranormal etc. And I did have one experience that made me completely believe that some people can ‘see’ things the bulk of us can’t - years ago after 2 years trying and failing to get pregnant DH and I were on holiday in Greece. On the 2nd day we popped into the hotel shop where the man serving stared at me and then said ‘you’re pregnant’. I said no and he repeated it again. He would not let it go. He just looked at me really intensely and said again that I was pregnant. I was devastated, decided I must be fat (I wasn’t) and refused to go back in the shop all week. 3 days after we got home I started being sick and a test proved I was in fact pregnant. I have no doubt that man knew, creepy but it makes me feel like some stuff isn’t explainable.

Pebbles16 · 02/10/2018 19:26

I think it's nonsense however my DM visited a psychic aged 16 (60s) and was told she would have a link with New Zealand. Her grandson is a kiwi

Littledidsheknow · 02/10/2018 19:31

At 49 I had a son

Well bloody hell now I'm convinced Hmm

Out of my 4 best friends and me, 4 of us (out of 5) have sons. It's kinda common in middle aged women.

Why didn't the fact that she was initially completely wrong not give you an inkling that she was fake?

lms2017 · 02/10/2018 20:01

When i was about 16 (now 30) a lady approached me and said someone was trying to tell me something , she mentioned Ellen and this lady used to always be hot and flustered , and always had something nice in her pocket also said she strokes your hair when your tired. . .

I was only a toddler when my nan died , the name meant nothing to me ... i went home that day and laughed at it with my mum until i said the name , being hot and pocket.

My mum said my nan was a cleaner at a school and always had sweets in her pocket , she was always rushing around and would say how hot she was ! And that her name was Gladys but her middle name was Ellen my mum got upset , i would like another reading but am abit nervous. This was a complete stranger in the centre of town! And asked of no money!
(Maybe she knew my nan ??)

My mum once got stopped by a lady abroad who just said dont get on the coach and walked off. mum and dad missed their transfer and the coach driver fell asleep and hit the barrier!

I need to have an up to date reading to believe as alots happened in my life since i was 16 LOL ! Xx

Nelumbo · 02/10/2018 20:12

Always been intrigued by it, though never had a reading myself.

I do remember my mum seeing someone at a fair or something. She had told her that her son wouldn't have any children and her daughter (me) would get married at 22 and have a boy and a girl. My brother hasn't had any kids yet and doesn't intend to.
I didn't marry but did move out of my parents at 22. I have a boy and a girl. Dont intend on having any more children.

What makes people go and get readings?

I Would worry that they might tell me something brilliant about my future and id drive myself crazy waiting for it to happen!

drquin · 02/10/2018 20:52

I'd probably believe in them a little more if they could be a bit more specific!

For example, @Pebbles16 gran's "connection to New Zealand". Well, that's a tad vague ..... pretty much everyone I know has "a connection" ..... I've worked with several NZers, several relatives over the generations have lived there, friends have gone on holiday, Kiwi bar man, I follow the NZ Prime Minister on Twitter .... they're all "connections".

I'd be more impressed if she could tell me my Grandma {weird unique name} aged 92 1/2 has a son called {bizarre bloke name} who has a boy called {unique NZ name} aged 12, born on 12th March in village X 33 miles from Dunedin blah blah.

A friend & I went to a tarot reader years ago ...... she is completely believing because "everything came true" ..... so why didn't all mine come true?! Firstly, it's not "everything", a couple of predictions yes "came true" e.g. living in a specific overseas city..... but we live in an area where the industry employing the majority means it's not at all uncommon to work in that overseas location at some point in your career.

Whereas I'm still waiting to meet Mr. Right .... who supposedly will have a May birthday. If it were not difficult enough to find him, apparently I've to rule out 11/12ths of the population straight off 🤔

CurlsandCurves · 02/10/2018 21:06

I went to see a medium about 18 years ago. And she did tell me stuff about my grandparents that she could not possibly have known. Very specific stuff that no one outside my immediate family could know. It was very comforting.

A friend of mine believes she has the gift also. We did a guided meditation together, we weren’t even in the same room. I was sceptical about who had come to my mind during that time. She said if it was genuine, she believed I would get some kind of sign to confirm it. About 10 minutes later she asked me a very specific question regarding that person which was absolute confirmation for me. Don’t want to out myself but it was something so unique to him and something she could not have possibly known.

Hushnownobodycares · 02/10/2018 21:15

Never been bit no. They can't tell the future. The very, very best they can do is read a client and make an educated and may strike lucky semi-accurate guess.

Hushnownobodycares · 02/10/2018 21:16

but

Duskqueen · 02/10/2018 21:28

This will probably be very putting but sod it. Before I was born a gypsy turned up at my DP's and told them they had 2 children, a boy and a girl, they were like well you have that wrong for a start, they talked about other things and just before she left she said "next time you see me you will have something to tell me" 6 weeks later my DM found out she was pregnant, just 2 days before the gypsy came back, she has been visiting us every now and again since. She told me and my DH (although we weren't married at the time) that we would get somewhere to live soon and 2 weeks later got our flat and when I was pregnant with my second child my my DF saw her and told her I was pregnant she said "I know she is having a boy" I was only 3 weeks pregnant at the time and guess what, I had a boy.

CurlsandCurves · 02/10/2018 21:54

Ok outing but my friend. I’ve never ever spoken to her about any family apart from my husband and kids. We had the meditation and I said I think I felt my grandpas presence but how do I know its him and not just my subconscious telling me what I want to hear. She said if it’s real you’ll get a sign.

10 mins later she messaged me. She said Curls did your grandpa have a cane? I’m feeling like I’m being definitely told a cane, not a walking stick. I’ve never even told my closest friends this, why would I? He had a gorgeous cane that my parents still have. She could never have known this.

This was a few years ago now, I’m not motivated to pursue anything further, I’m happy with what I know.

Littledidsheknow · 02/10/2018 23:04

There are a surprising amount of you-mark-my-words type "gypsy women" on this thread.
What a cringe-worthy cliché, and possibly offensive stereotype.
I wonder if they were all headscarves and asking those posters who mentioned them to 'cross my palm with silver' or gaze into their crystal ball.

What a pile of dog doo.

CarolDanvers · 02/10/2018 23:18

I saw a psychic who told me first what my birth sign was, she got it right. That I was going to have a relationship with someone from another country and she could see a winter sport, maybe skiiing. It wouldn't last but would be fun while it did, then I would move away and meet the father of my children.

I was totally disbelieving. I lived in a midlands city had no plans to move and had never been skiiing in my life, nor did I want to.

About a month later I met a professional ice hockey player from Canada and had a relationship with him for two years. We broke up and I met someone else and moved to London with him. We split and a few months late I met the father of my children.

TooManyPaws · 02/10/2018 23:57

When I went to see a psychic, she was very confused because she told me that she kept getting an older man who was going on about doorknobs, get the bloody doorknobs sorted! I had had new doors fitted to the built-in wardrobes but the bloke was taking his time about fitting the knobs to them which was awkward using them. It was exactly what my father would have said too but she was very taken aback. The guy said he'd never been nagged by a ghost before when I told him but he did fit the bloody doorknobs immediately! 😂
