Has anyone been to a psychic who has told them something that has come true?

Just that really, years ago I went to see two different psychics about a couple of years apart and they have got things quite close to the mark, somethings that even I did not volunteer!

I am quite skeptical, so I tend to go into these meetings with an attitude of trying to be as poker faced as possible.

The last one I went to see said I would have a little girl, and twins!

I’ve recently had a little girl so she got that right! I know not that much of a coincidence! I keep joking with my oh saying it will be twins next time!

So, my partner thinks it’s a whole load of rubbish, I don’t, I try to keep an open mind!

Not really AIBU but would like to hear stories from other people about things coming true or not true and opinions about whether people believe there is something in it?

Xx

Facebook is so handy.

""How come not one has even stood up to a scientific test.?""

I wish that the one that I went to could have been tested.

I went to a Charity Fun Day, outside of where I live.

She gave me a message from my Dad which was accurate, oddly it had come through a Ouija board to my Mother, three times. My Mother gave up doing the Ouija.

She said other stuff which she couldn't have guessed, I had five step children, at the age of nineteen.

She then said that my DH's Brother was there. I said that my DH didn't have a dead Brother. It continued and she had to break it off because she said he was becoming agitated.

I came away feeling disappointed.

I was telling my DH, when he went pale and told me that he had a Brother who died in childhood and because their Mother couldn't cope with the death, no-one spoke about it.

On another occasion I went to a Tarot night in a pub. I drew the Tarot cards five times and they wouldn't answer my question. It was about my DH, who was ill. He was later diagnosed with Cancer throughout his Body. The knowledge earlier wouldn't have done me any good.

Both me and my eldest DD went for reading, in a pub, with mates. We went to different reader, but both got the same reading, connected to my DH's death. The readings were tapped, so we wasn't going on recollection of what was said. We were both asked if we wanted a truthful, but painful-to-hear reading beforehand.

My Grandmother used to claim that the clock my Grandfather bought her stopped at the time of his Death, every year. I dismissed it, until one year, in between buying/selling a house, we stayed there, whilst she was away.

It stopped at the time and started again two days later.

I looked up similar happens and it seems it was common with clocks/watches, but scientists explain that by the electromagnetic stuff.

Our energy stays, we don't know in what form.

ParanoidGynodroid · 02/10/2018 10:58

It is not possible to foretell the future or speak to the dead.

Long before James Randi offered his "reward" to anyone who could prove their psychic abilities in a controlled environment, PT Barnum did the same.
He, like Derren Brown and others, enjoyed revealing the tricks of the trade and offered a $500 dollar reward to anyone who could convincingly prove their psychic ability.
Neither Barnum's nor Randi's awards were ever claimed.

For all those claiming that their psychic got it right, there will be ten others who were left unimpressed.
I, like a poster above, was told by a psychic I was pregnant (I was 9 months gone at the time and the size of a bus) and also about various dead relatives... who didn't exist! Lots of John?.. George..? Mary?... and other very common "old" names. I didn't tell her my family were mostly Polish because surely she already knew that? Grin

ParanoidGynodroid · 02/10/2018 11:00

Oh, but I did have one accurate psychic who told me I'd get married to a man with the first initial "J", which I did...

It was my granny reading my tea leaves when I was about 11!

IWriteCode · 02/10/2018 11:08

I had a tarot reading over the phone. I only confirmed my name and chose a pack of cards.

She told me the timeframe in which I would meet my husband, described him (tall, blonde, sporty, but got the eye colour wrong), mentioned that he had been married before, said that I knew him already from work. She said I would get a better job (I did) that would involve lots of international travel (it did). She said I learn easily and absorb knowledge like a sponge. That an ex boyfriend would contact me hoping for a rekindling, but that it would go wrong again (bf did get in touch and tried to have an affair with me behind his partner's back). She also said that an older relative would have a niggling health problem that would eventually resolve but would require lots of medication (my dad picked up a nasty infection while in hospital).

Oh, and she said not to worry about my wedding day because it would be sunny. It rained all week until my wedding day which was glorious.

I guess this is all vague enough that it could have been a scam? I frankly think it was great value for my £15.

Birdsgottafly · 02/10/2018 11:15

ParanoidGynodroid, explain my situation then.

ParanoidGynodroid · 02/10/2018 11:33

BirdsGotta there are countless explanations of how mediums "do it" online... perhaps look at a few of these. Here are some examples:

skepdic.com/skeptimedia/skeptimedia127.html

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thrillist.com/amphtml/culture/7-tricks-psychics-and-mediums-use-how-psychics-use-cold-reading-the-forer-effect

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_reading

There are tons of others. You can Google. Please also see any of Derren Brown's or Penn and Teller's exposés.

I saw DB live on stage doing a wonderful psychic show. He told one woman all about her dead father: his name, nickname, job, hobbies... even his pet name for her. She cried. DB assured her he has no psychic ability whatsoever.

You must also consider good luck, coincidence, confirmation bias, the fallibility of memory, vague pronouncements open to misinterpretation, plain old cheating and lots of other factors.

Mari50 · 02/10/2018 11:35

I had my palm read at a fair years ago, she was spot on actually and to my eternal shame I took no heed of her advice. Cause I don’t believe all that shite haha

BartholinsSister · 02/10/2018 11:43

I went to visit a psychic but she wouldn't see me as I didn't have an appointment.
I thought she would have known I was going. I didn't go back.

Birdsgottafly · 02/10/2018 11:59

ParanoidGynodroid, but I didn't know my DH had another Brother, so none of that applies. I was nineteen (but looked young for my age) and not wearing a wedding ring.

Neither does her telling me my Father's name and how he died and giving me a message that wasn't vague.

Birdsgottafly · 02/10/2018 12:01

ParanoidGynodroid, your DB scams people for a living?

MintMunchie · 02/10/2018 12:07

DB is Derren Brown.

elaine26 · 02/10/2018 12:11

I have seen 2. I was around 5 months pregnant with my twins, she put her hand on my bump and told me they're not January babies. I gave birth on 20th December, 6 weeks early. The second one told me she saw me at home working on a computer, I'm now in 3rd Yr open university. And she directed me where to find my granny's wedding ring, I'd left it on the tumble drier in our garage.

oreoxoreo · 02/10/2018 12:14

I want to believe and I've been to a couple of highly recommended physics, but I found their readings too vague.
I am currently at the crossroads and need some guidance and if anyone could recommend a truly good one in South East, please pm me.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2018 12:20

Oreo-fer a big sheet of paper and a new packet of marker pens. Write down all the pros and cons of all your different options. Use colours, pictures-get everything down. I promise that as you do this and your brain processes all the information the right choice will come to you. And you will have made the decision- not some random stranger.

ParanoidGynodroid · 02/10/2018 12:25

ParanoidGynodroid, your DB scams people for a living?

NoConfused he (Derren Brown) is an entertainer who doesn't make claims to speak to the dead or see the future. How is he scamming?

I can't explain your personal experience as I wasn't there, didn't hear what was said and have only the apocryphal account - your anecdotal sketchy memories (assuming you're telling the truth to the best of your abilities) - of a stranger on this. That's not an insult, by the way... all of our memories are crap.

Do you honestly believe in fatalism? That our life events are predetermined ? If not, how can anyone foretell the future? If so, you believe you have no choices and nothing g you do matters?

eyycarumba · 02/10/2018 13:00

Yes, and she was incredible. I've always believed in something but thought most psychics were cold readers. This woman totally converted me. I was obviously pregnant at the time and she asked if I knew the sex, I did (DS), she said 'oh so it's fine to tell you it's a boy, your nan is here with blue bows'. She warned me about two faced people at work I needed to be cautious about (I was made unfairly redundant a few weeks later because a colleague swapped my work) and said I would leave my oh around the time I had my son. I left him straight after. It was the first time we met, there were a few other things she said that no one could find out through snooping or through asking people I knew.

adviceonthepox · 02/10/2018 13:35

I have never been to one but I have had random gypsy women walk up to me in the street a few times over the years. The first one told me I had a gift and I could learn to use it if I opened my mind to it. Didn't want anything just gave me a crystal and walked off. I was 16 at the time and thought she was batshit crazy.
The 2 nd time I walking to work and a woman in her 50's crossed the road grabbed my arm and said your son will be fine it will be hard but he will be fine. Looked me in the eye and said remember! 3 weeks later my eldest son had 2 strokes. He had to relearn to walk and talk and was seriously ill at one point.
The 3rd time the same 2nd woman knocked my door asking for any old toys she could have for her grandchildren. I was 4 months pregnant with my daughter. I wasn't showing and i hadn't seen her from the last time to then (6 years)
I had that morning sorted out some old stuff to give the local playgroup so I gave her the bag that was in my hall. In my hall was a picture of my 2 boys. She said where is your 3rd child why isn't she in the picture? I said only have 2 children both boys. She said she knew I had a daughter she could see her. See was my double and looked just like me. I said no sorry I haven't.
She said my gift is never wrong. Why are you lying? Are you ashamed of your child? At this point I was a bit freaked out so said go away now you have what you asked for don't come here again. At that point she said ahhh I see you are pregnant and didn't know you were having a daughter! Sorry for the confusion oh and by the way how is your son now? Told you he would recover from whatever it was that went wrong with his brain 😱

princesstiasmum · 02/10/2018 15:47

For all the cynics out there, i hope one day you will be told something that changes your mind, i know what i have been told has happened, with no prior knowledge and long before facebook
As i said earlier, there are harlatans as well as genuine, and i can tell who is genuine and who is not,
Never tell them anything at all, and see what they tell you, anyone can come up with random names etc, but when there is a description and something only you know and no one else does, its spooky,
It was 8 years after being told i would have identical twin boys [twins dont run in my family], and i was divorced at the time, no intention of ever getting married again or even having a relationship, but it happened along with someone coming on a long journey and offering me a ring, someone i already knew,
My ex [first] husband did to remarry him ,[ turned him down obviously]

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2018 15:56

So 8 years ago a psychic told you you would have twin boys? The chances are that if you hadn’t had twin boys you wouldn’t have remembered. If she told enough people that she would have got it right sometimes!

Clandestino · 02/10/2018 16:02

I once initiated something on social media which was a prime example of confirmation bias. I didn't know if whether to laugh or despair for humanity.
Remember - a good psychic can read you well and has a really good eye for a tiniest detail. They will throw in few things which may come close to truth or be a general fact for let's say your age or social group. They also go after your question - are you asking about whether you will ever have a good relationship? Chances are you had a few that went tits up. And so on and so on ....
If you use basic psychology and are a good listener, you may be the best psychic ever. If you add the good old confirmation bias into it, they are the winners.

Elasticity · 02/10/2018 16:19

Say enough generic, common and (most importantly) quite vague things about people and no doubt a percentage of them will be correct. The more vague ones are useful because people will twist the vague predictions to fit what subsequently happens. Guesses such as having a girl or boy or a death in the family its just a matter of chance. These people then respond to threads like this with their positive stories and encourage others to see a psychic.

Lol

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2018 16:56

The number of children one is classic. Most women either have or will have 2 children. Most women have had miscarriages. All babies are either boys or girls. Incredibly easy to make readings and predictions out of that.

BertrandRussell · 02/10/2018 16:57

I’ve even heard of childless women being led on to “children who are important to you..” Nephews, nieces, god children.......

Jamiefraserskilt · 02/10/2018 17:14

Been to a few. Two stand out.
One I saw in my twenties. First thing she asked who *** was, let's be specific, her name is not spelled the usual way but with a y. She is hurting.
Bff's name, weird spelling, her dad had just died.
Then went on to tell me a load of things. Only one never happened. They were not run of the mill things but very detailed and some concerned other people so out of my control. freaked me out over the next 6 months as one after the other happened.
Second one was a tea leaf reader. I was massively cynical. From the get go she was spot on. Her advice re a certain situation she uncovered (correctly) helped me make a life changing decision. She was dealing with a poker face and no feedback from me. May see her again now that dreadful dilemma has been sorted and see what else is in store!
