to think this woman could have let me go ahead

I went to the ATM this morning. There was a woman standing in front of it rummaging in her bag for her purse, while I stood behind waiting. She then proceeded to do several different transactions, putting in and out different cards while I stood there and a queue built up.

AIBU to think she could have let me go ahead? I would have had my money withdrawn by the time she found her purse, instead I was standing there for ages between the whole faff.

Yes I do have other things to worry about, but this just struck me as a bit self absorbed.

I do apologise to the OP. She has been far less aggressive than the previous poster with near identical complaint.

How is looking for a purse in your bag faffing? How long do you think it actually takes?

Of course rummaging in your bag is faffing. It can take me ages to find my purse which is why I wouldn't hog the cash machine until I was ready to use it. Just basic good manners.

YeOldeTrout · 27/09/2018 12:03

Yes you do have better things to worry about.

LimitIsUp · 27/09/2018 12:05

I think it was her turn and she did nothing wrong - however it would have been polite of her to acknowledge the queue and say 'sorry to have kept you all' accompanied by a winning smile. Probably would have made you all feel better and facilitated a very British exchange of "Oh no don't worry" etc

spanishwife · 27/09/2018 12:07

Self-absorbed?

Nothing screams self-absorbed like taking time to write out a thread on how a person inconvenienced you by 5 extra minutes.. how DARE she!

Smishsmash · 27/09/2018 12:07

YABU. She was ahead of you in the que. You need to wait your turn.

RB68 · 27/09/2018 12:08

I hate this when in a queue - "can I just" no fuck off I waited my turn wait yours. Unless I choose to allow you in front don't be such a CF. Its tough I get my go at stuff. But then again yes I understand frustration if she is doing transfers between several accounts or getting money out from several etc

dancinginthehall · 27/09/2018 12:09

Well your life is obviously terribly full and interesting Zoflora if you have time to post on threads that obviously bore you.

I accept I've split opinion here, but it's not the first time it's happened to me. I'm one of those people who always has my card ready before I go near the machine, and move away the minute I get my money, so I do get a bit Hmm when people stand there organising themselves, rather than just use the machine and go.

You are a shining example to us all OP.

It can take me ages to find my purse

Ages? How long is that? Unless your bag is a hold-all full to the brim then it wouldn't take ages.

LimitIsUp · 27/09/2018 12:11

dancing - I'm just like that too (everything ready to go) and do get inwardly irked at the terminally disorganised....but its honestly better to accept our differences and live and let live

HolesinTheSoles · 27/09/2018 12:12

It can take me 2-3 minutes because my bag is big and full of stuff (tissues, pills, snacks, water, books, etc etc). If every spent 2-3 minutes faffing around finding their purse it would be bloody annoying so I make sure I have it when I get to the cash machine. It's not that difficult surely?

2-3 minutes Grin sorry but that's an exaggeration if ever I heard one.

My bag is full of all sorts but I can fish my keys/phone/purse out in less than 5 seconds.

Botanicbaby · 27/09/2018 12:15

YABU. Just wait your turn. Patience is a virtue.

Perhaps you need to withdraw more cash/spend it less quickly in future then you wouldn’t find yourself in this utterly terrible dire situation so often Hmm

OliviaStabler · 27/09/2018 12:15

YANBU Had to stand behind one of these faffers the other day as a queue built up behind her. She was completely oblivious to the inconvenience she was causing. She might have time to waste, I don't!

gamerchick · 27/09/2018 12:16

I'm sure this has been posted before. Almost word for word

It happens a lot I think. The multiple card thing gets right on my tit ends, expect when they get a paper recipient with each card and they're the ones who read each letter like it's the first time they've used a cashpoint.

But it's just one of those things and if I'm in a hurry the person in front won't give a toss either way and it might be he first time they've used a cash point Grin

gamerchick · 27/09/2018 12:17

*especially not except.

KatieMarieJ · 27/09/2018 12:17

For those of us who do multiple transactions at ATMs (and at real life tellers too) do you advise we do one transaction, join the back of the queue to do the next, and so on and so forth?

Now FWIW if I had someone in front of me who said "if you're only getting cash, go ahead" my immediate thoughts would be along the lines of "is the person offering this to out themselves into a position where they could mug me?" and I would not take them up in the offer.

Rhiannon13 · 27/09/2018 12:17

How would she know you were going to be quick?

Sad to be so intolerant of other people. Just wait in the queue like everyone else.

Snowymountainsalways · 27/09/2018 12:17

Maybe she had bigger things to worry about than keeping you waiting...

Sarcelle · 27/09/2018 12:18

I am a non faffer and ready to go with card in hand. Whilst it is annoying that the woman did multiple transactions she would not know if you were going to do the same. In this scenario she did the right thing. Not the same as in a supermarket queue with the one item scenario.

gamerchick · 27/09/2018 12:18

Yeah OP, stop spending money so quickly tsk Grin

EK36 · 27/09/2018 12:18

No. Just wait your turn. She waited so it's your turn to wait. She doesn't know if you are going to be quick or not!

Cutietips · 27/09/2018 12:21

This going to be split between the faffers and the non faffers

Good point. What I’d like to know is: are faffers annoyed by other faffers? I bet they are. It’s more entitlement. They’re allowed to faff, but woe betide anyone else that does it to them!
