to think this woman could have let me go ahead

I went to the ATM this morning. There was a woman standing in front of it rummaging in her bag for her purse, while I stood behind waiting. She then proceeded to do several different transactions, putting in and out different cards while I stood there and a queue built up.

AIBU to think she could have let me go ahead? I would have had my money withdrawn by the time she found her purse, instead I was standing there for ages between the whole faff.

Yes I do have other things to worry about, but this just struck me as a bit self absorbed.

MummyofLittleDragon, I have said I would never say anything and understand they can't help it, and one reason I would never show any irritation is that I realise there may be reasons that I can't see physically, like visual impairment. And obviously sometimes you can see that someone is struggling physically and respect that too.

However, I'm not really talking about people being slow-moving or confused. It's more people apparently going to get some cash from the ATM, buy a train ticket etc and then finding 40 other things to do while they're at the front. People who know what they're doing, move at a normal speed etc but take out 10 different cards, faff around with them all and as Morris said, use the ATM to seemingly apply for a mortgage.

And btw, you don't know who I am and that I don't have any of the problems you describe. I actually do have two of them. But if i knew I was going to take ages, I'd let people behind me go first.

it is annoying if theres only one machine i tend to do one transcation then leave but u cant r4eally do much

I don’t think she necessarily ought to have let you go first, but I do think she was BU to spend so much time doing multiple transactions at a cash point with people clearly waiting. She should have kept her usage to one or two transactions and then returned to do the rest after others have had their turn.

Crikey, minor life event to start a thread!

SilverySurfer · 27/09/2018 14:11

YABU - unless, of course, you're a special snowflake. The woman had no way of knowing how many transactions you were going to make and anyway why the hell should she let you go in front, thus making her wait?

Sorry I didn’t mean to make you feel attacked. I was answering this question as a generic question, not to point out ywbu for commenting or anything. Sadly I think very few people actually see me struggling and people do get irritated with me. Cashiers start the next transaction and ignore me etc. Not at Aldi obvs as that’s carnage. I’m talking when I go to coop every now and then.

So because you had your card ready she should have let you go first. Don't be so entitled, the world doesn't revolve around you and whether or not you were only using 1 transaction at an atm.

Bloobs · 27/09/2018 14:25

Apologies to you too. I think there's a difference between feeling annoyed that there's a delay, and showing irritation or being mean to someone – no one should do that.

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/09/2018 14:27

No worries. I can understand being quoted may have felt a bit shit. I just didn’t think of it in that way. Smile
