I had an utterly bizarre incident yesterday. For context DH and I are away at the moment, practically the other side of the world from our home country. DH and I were walking along a very busy street, it’s just getting dark, and I become aware of a woman who starts to alternate between walking a sensible distant behind me, to uncomfortably close behind behind me, to walking up right alongside me, with DH on my other side. We have a few repetitions of this, with her following me the length of the street, and then a flash goes off in my face. I am 100% sure she photographed me, it was at such a close range and there was no one else that could have been in the shot. I don’t say anything to her, because I’m not up for a confrontation in a language I only know a few words of. I tell DH she’s following me, and we move to stand in a shop doorway at the side of the pavement with the intention of getting out of her way. I was expecting her to pass us, but she walks right up to me and starts screaming in my face in broken English, the gist of it was: ‘why you look at me? You know me? You look at me! I hate you, you’re evil!’ DH tells her I’ve never seen her before I’m my life and to hop it, and she does. I’ve been trying to work out what the hell happened here since last night, and I’m a bit shaken by it, so please cheer me up and regale me with your stories of weird happenings.

Not quite as weird but not long ago a strange man cycled up to me as I was leaving work and started telling me all about the things he had shoplifted that day and showed me some trainers. This went on for about 10 minutes while I just nodded and smiled (I'm always to polite to just leave). When he was done he asked me for my number..... certainly the weirdest chat up I've ever experienced.

TheEighthMrsSK · 27/09/2018 10:27

@ShartGoblin oh dear Grin I’ve had a few like that. I think I have one of those faces that attracts weirdos. They are usually fairly harmless, just odd. But this woman yesterday felt a bit different if you know what I mean.

Not the same but similar, I was walking down the hill after picking my children up from school and heard a man screaming abuse behind me, I assumed he was on the phone and arguing with someone but he sounded very angry so I turned around and it became clear he wasnt on the phone and was talking to me. Never seen him before in my life but he was very scary. He started speeding up so we quickly crossed the road. Then a few days ago I was at the bus stop with my children and the same man passed and as he did he got him hand and made a fist and punched it into his other hand aiming it at me, very scary!! no idea who he is or what his problem is.

InspectorIkmen · 27/09/2018 11:20

Creeper - that exact same thing happened to me not that long ago. How weird. I’ve thought about it a lot because I really have no idea what I did to deserve it 😂😂. He was so angry about who knows what!

Live up North. At Kings Cross saying to DH we must get the decorator in, and the decorator walks past!

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 27/09/2018 12:05

Been split from exh for 5 months, had a few Saturday nights out with a friend, one Fri night had a huge urge to go out, never been out on a Fri, only friend was busy had to ask dd (never do as a bit cheesy imo!)
Met a stranger at a bar - who lived in my tiny village!! Shared a taxi and never had a night apart since - in 6 years!! He wasn't supposed to be in town that night but his mate changed the plans last minute.
We are married with a toddler!!
Weird!!

I run my own company and met a young woman at a networking event. She was very taken with what I do and said she'd love to work with me. We arranged to meet for coffee in a few days to discuss what might be possible.

She then set herself up as essentially running the business. I saw her tweeting a local editor about a story about it. I called her and told her to back the hell off. She apologised but immediately made excuses as though she was actually my business partner (the coffee was only to discuss freelance services). I went through all of her tweets so I could call everyone she'd spoken to in order to say she had nothing to do with me.

Thankfully it went no further and she didn't stalk me or anything but it was the single most bizarre experience of my life.

Whereisthecoffee · 27/09/2018 13:21

A gas man once knocked on my door and said just letting you know I’m reading your meter didn’t want you to think I was going to rape you in your bed or anything.

Bodabing · 27/09/2018 16:39

I'm a vet nurse. Someone rang the practice asking for a price on x-rays. I started listing things, you know sedation or a full general anaesthetic, cost depending on pet size. Oh no, she doesn't want that, just an x-ray. Talk about animal compliance being an issue etc, no, no, no, she just wants us to x-ray a chicken bone inside a melon!

ShartGoblin · 28/09/2018 08:38

@Bodabing and did you do it?? Grin

Bodabing · 28/09/2018 20:54

Nope, it was too expensive for her!

Buswankeress · 28/09/2018 21:28

I hadn't thought about this for years until this thread.
I was very close to my grandparents and my grandad used to take me places in his car as a teenager grandads taxi and one of those places was for my riding lesson on a Saturday. One Saturday morning my dad was supposed to take me but for whatever reason (I forget - age!) He couldn't. So I rang my grandad - and had the wierdest conversation ever, I was obviously speaking to someone's grandad, and had obviously mis-dialed but I said my name when he answered (not massively common) so he obviously had a granddaughter of the same name. I asked 'grandad' to take me riding but he was confused as to why I'd given up ballet and taken up horse riding all of a sudden. Still he said he'd be round in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later my grandad turned up and obviously I thought he was there for me, but he was there for something else and very confused about our 'conversation' it was only then I realised I'd dialled the wrong number and had a full conversation with someone else's grandad who was waiting outside her house right now to take her horse riding when she didn't go!
Grandad still took me riding though because he spoiled me rotten

ScrumpyCrack · 28/09/2018 21:36

I was a young teenager sat on the bus with a group of mates when a woman approached us and immediately zoned in on me, she told me that I was a good person and not to give up on myself because I always had some looking over me.

We all laughed it off but I was weirded out for a long time afterwards.

Enidthecat · 28/09/2018 21:44

In a bar in London with a friend from the Scottish University we attended. We were reminiscing about a guy we both used to fancy at uni and said 'I wonder what he's doing these days'.

I turned around to go to the bar and the guy we were talking about was standing on the other side of the bar.

Totally freaked us both out.

DearSergio · 28/09/2018 21:46

I was on a date with a bloke I'd met online, Date was going well, we had met up on the green outside Exeter cathedral and were having a nice chat etc when a random man who was late 50s came up to me with wild eyes and told me I needed to go with him, and we needed to get to somewhere safe by sunset. It was literally so fucking odd I felt like I was on some prank show. I sort of muttered some thing about how he must have the wrong person and he wandered off. Kinda killed the romantic mood with my date, and also made me really paranoid that the world was going to end at sunset Confused

overnightangel · 28/09/2018 21:48

@Enidthecat did you go and talk to him?

Enidthecat · 28/09/2018 21:55

@overnightangel yes! He saw me and said hi. We ended up chatting to him and his date, it was all very odd and awkward particularly as my friend and I were a bit hysterical at the coincidence and he obviously had no idea why we seemed a bit overexcited!

HildaZelda · 28/09/2018 22:16

Not that weird but, when I ring my vet to make an appointment they ask for your surname, pets first name.
My surname isn't a particularly common one, especially where I live and my cat's name while not that unusual isn't massively common cat name either.
So I rang up about 'Mittens Jones' and was asked for address and phone number as they needed more information.
Apparently there's another "Mittens Jones" in the (small) practice.
Bit of a weird coincidence.

The other one is a yorkie by the way!

SingleCellParamecium · 28/09/2018 22:27

Had a phone call at home. I answer hello. Man at the end of the phone said “hello is that Bob’s garage?” I say ”er, no sorry I think you’ve got the wrong number”. He says “oh sorry” and puts the phone down. As I do too, I feel a bit weird about the voice on the phone. Then I realise that it was actually my DH. He has also just realised that he dialled our home number which is v similar to the garage number, and we both spoke very politely to each other like strangers without realising who we were talking to. Not very strange but was a bit disconcerting!

Purplehammer · 28/09/2018 22:28

Coming home from the supermarket I stopped at some traffic lights.
From the lights there is a straight road for half a mile before my turn off.
I got a little way along.
I looked around and thought where the hell am I.
The houses on each sidem were not the right ones, it was a totally different road.
About 20 yards before the turn every thing was back as it usually was and I turned down my street.
What happened in that short time?
Where was I?

wtfhaveijustread · 28/09/2018 22:34

Some guy in Asda started talking to me about his nieces baby and so I know her etc etc .... just because I had a young baby haha

Also I was in a que once and the fella in front asked me if I had just finished work etc etc and then done a magic trick for me...he was old and I'm guessing lonely so I just went along with it haha

Athena51 · 28/09/2018 22:36

@Whereisthecoffee
A gas man once knocked on my door and said just letting you know I’m reading your meter didn’t want you to think I was going to rape you in your bed or anything.

Well, I'm sure that was very reassuring! WTAcutalF???

InspectorIkmen · 28/09/2018 22:37

WTF Purple 😳😳Did that really happen?

TeenagersDoMyHeadIn · 28/09/2018 22:39

We were on holiday in Chicago this summer. Sitting in a bus shelter in a quiet area and there was a freshly made sandwich and a smoothie on the seat from a nearby deli that someone must have left behind. A man wandered by and asked us if we'd seen a blonde woman. We said no. Then he picked up the sandwich and drink and went on his way.

AprilShowers16 · 28/09/2018 22:46

Once as a teenager I was walking home with some friends and it started raining. I’d lost my coat a couple of months before. I said out loud to my first something like ‘oh so annoying I lost my coat ages ago...and here it is’ as I finished my sentence and looked up my coat was just there hung on the fence of someone’s house.
