To hate those “Mother” / “Mama” / “Mutha” sweatshirts / jumpers?!

Those jumpers emblazoned with the words “Mother” / “Mama” / “Mutha” etc. that seem to have been around for a couple of years now – am I alone in finding them just beyond annoying? I find them just unbearably smug, contrived, attention-seeking, cringeworthy… especially as I am currently (desperately) TTC. I think they are kind of rubbing my nose in it a bit, I could be over-sensitive, but aside from that, I just think they are DEEPLY uncool anyway and I would not be seen dead in one! Just smacks of wanting to look like an instamum to me. ABIU?

I suppose they're alright, if you think photographing peonies and Faux Malone candles clustered on a tray is where it's at.

Sleepykate · 25/09/2018 03:20

I don't think there's anything wrong with them to be honest. I wouldn't wear one but there's a lot of slogan jumpers around at the moment and they're basically all nonsense. No different to the others in my opinion.

AnyFarrahFowler · 25/09/2018 05:29

YABU. They have helped Selfish Mother raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for a range of amazing charities. But if that’s “uncool”, let’s not do it, eh? Hmm

ohlittlepea · 25/09/2018 05:40

Oh god I'm cringing at being thought of as a smug Instamum, and upsetting anyone. I've got 3 of these, they are just slouchy sweatshirts that are easy to chuck on with jeans. I love the fact that they give so much to charity. Theres loads of slogans avaliable I've got Winging it, Mama and Mother. All were presents from my kids via DH. Im so sorry that you're hurting OP.

InTheNavy · 25/09/2018 06:30
  1. Who decides what's cool??? A few posters on mumsnet????
but more importantly,
  1. Who says a mama sweatshirt wearer is TRYING to be cool?
HRTpatch · 25/09/2018 06:34

Never seen one.But dont like slogan tops anyway.

Rockbird · 25/09/2018 06:39

Never heard of them so had a look at the site. The only one I would wear is the 'still rocking' one. I like that a lot but the rest are awful. I've never seen on in the real world.

iwillbemummy · 25/09/2018 06:47

I am not middle class, white and definitely not privileged and do not have Instagram or Facebook I struggled for years to have a baby and was finally successful and am currently organising my DS first birthday in two weeks. My DS (DH) bought me a mother jumper for mother’s day and I loved it. It’s not my usual style to wear something with a slogan on but I love what it represents for me. And also a plus that’s its super comfy. Not everyone is taking selfies, or wearing clothes for attention. I will continue wearing mine thinking of how it was a lovely gift from my DS and not judge other women for wearing a jumper with some letters on and putting a stereotype on them. Rant over!

meditrina · 25/09/2018 06:49

I must be walking round in blinkers, because I've never seen one. But I think if I did see one, I would assume there was a silent 'fucker' (medi, lowering the tone since 2010)

Shampooeeee · 25/09/2018 06:53

meditrina I like to joke that it says fucker on the back. I don’t take myself too seriously.

JustARandomBloke · 25/09/2018 06:59

Sorry, I'm a bit confused about the rules. I thought it was unacceptable to judge women based on what they wear. Did I miss the bit where it changed? Or has there slways been a secret opt out clause for a certain smug subset?Any help much appreciated. In the meantime, I don't see anything wrong with them.

ginandnappies · 25/09/2018 07:01

Classic women judging other women on a fucking jumper of all things. Some people are so rude, assuming they know back stories by an item of clothing. Jesus Christ.

AhoyDelBoy · 25/09/2018 07:03

fourandnomore ‘Dude’ is worse IMO, is he four? Hmm I’m not really a fan of these jumpers, personally I dislike ‘Mama bird’ the most Confused

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 25/09/2018 07:07

the only people in my acquaintance who wear them are wannabe-Instamums types who spend a lot of time talking about being a mum // Yes THIS so much @NoSleepTil2020 but I wonder if my part of the world is “past them” (SW London Nappy Valley) as you don’t see as many of them as you once did (a good thing as I wished all wearers sticky misfortune when I was off my box with PND) // I do judge folk when I see them wearing them, mostly with one word: “TOSSER”.

greatbigwho · 25/09/2018 07:07

I wear what I want and haven't worried about being 'cool' since I was about 13.

This is so bloody petty.

AhoyDelBoy · 25/09/2018 07:09

To hate those “Mother” / “Mama” / “Mutha” sweatshirts / jumpers?!
toomanyidiots · 25/09/2018 07:12

You all moaning about tops from small businesses.....meanwhile it's paying my mortgage and making six figures plus. Hmmmmmmm all these opinions of women you've never met makes me embarrassed for you!

HRTpatch · 25/09/2018 07:16

I'd quite like a " not dead yet" one

toomanyidiots · 25/09/2018 07:17

There are so many vile repulsive women on these threads just pulling women down. I hope your daughters don't grow up like you. Jealousy of mum's who you all obsess over on instagram and come to bitch on here.....see what it looks like is that you are all bitter and jealous.

AhoyDelBoy · 25/09/2018 07:21

Jeepers are people not allowed opinions!?

AhoyDelBoy · 25/09/2018 07:24

Six figures plus!? Hmm better start me a tacky t-shirt business pronto Grin

AuntieStella · 25/09/2018 07:26

toomanyidiots - do you also start whole threads saying 'you're all bitches'? Compulsory worship of glopping slogan shirts starts here.....

toomanyidiots · 25/09/2018 07:26

But why are so many women on Mums net or jealouscrankybitchnet so bothered about anything that they wish they could have but can't. Just wonder why they aren't looking after their kids instead of writing continuous posts about jumpers and instamums they wish they could be!

DartmoorDoughnut · 25/09/2018 07:27

I have 4, not an ‘instamum’ or whatever it’s called, they’re snuggly and fit well and raise money for charity 🤷🏻‍♀️

toomanyidiots · 25/09/2018 07:28

I would, better than being mean about women on the internet you really wish you had the life of!
