hidden damage from my DH

I am mortified and feel so guilty.
My DH bought me a kindle less than a week ago , just because.
Tonight it fell down the gap between the two reclining sections of our sofa.
I couldnt reach it so I pressed the reverse on the recliner and heard a crack.
The screen is totally smashed.
I have left it on the floor and will blame the dog when DH picks it up.
I feel terrible!!

PS IIRC they were open all hours, I called in the middle of the night not expecting an answer, so you should be able to call now ...

FascinatingCarrot · 23/09/2018 21:54

Amazon have brilliant customer service on their Kindles. Ring them and explained what happened. They will help, Im sure.
Then you can explain what happened to DH but he knows you are dealing with the accident

theworldistoosmall · 23/09/2018 21:56

Just tell him the truth.
There shouldn't be lies within a relationship because there should always be trust. Once the lies begin, the trust starts to wane.

TokyoSushi · 23/09/2018 21:58

Tell him the truth, then contact amazon, I bet they'll replace it.

Poppyinagreenfield · 23/09/2018 22:02

It just requires so much energy to lie and be deceitful that it is not worth the effort.

birdladyfromhomealone · 23/09/2018 22:03

OoHH thanks for all your answers, I thought it would be unrepairable which is why I didnt want to tell him.
It has a bulls eye smash in the middle with lines going out from it like a head hitting a windscreen.
I never considered the screen could be replaced .
thanks all.

What’s the worst thing that can happen here? If he’s a reasonable person he’ll quickly get over it. If not well you have other bigger issues to worry about. Take it to a phone repair shop and ask them about the cost of getting it fixed. I don’t personally recommend pinning any blame on the dog.

Ethylred · 23/09/2018 22:06

That's what dogs are for OP.

CantankerousCamel · 23/09/2018 22:07

Yes blame the dog
Yes get it fixed

Then admit it three months later when you’re both drunk (this is our marriage)

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 23/09/2018 22:08

It’s quite worrying that you are so freaked out about this. Is he some kind of monster? Because this really isn’t a big deal.

CantankerousCamel · 23/09/2018 22:09

Oh it’s not worrying it’s totally normal.

DH wouldn’t hurt a fly and I’d still be nervous to admit to being such a knob. It’s not him it’s me.

MacosieAsunter · 23/09/2018 22:10

Amazon will replace it

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 23/09/2018 22:12

Why on earth would Amazon replace it when the OP has broken it herself?

whereiscaroline · 23/09/2018 22:13

Yep, contact Amazon. They replaced one for me (borrowed my Mum's to see if it got on ok with it and then broke screen on day one!). Their customer service was FAB.

Funko · 23/09/2018 22:14

Because amazon are generally amazing with this stuff ohdear*

xJessica · 23/09/2018 22:14

I stood on a tablet DH had got me not long before. I stupidly left it on the floor at the side of the bed and just accidentally stood on it. He wasn't bothered at all. I also dropped a fairly new mobile down the toilet and he was fine. Always better to tell the truth, I think he would be more upset if he found out you'd felt you had to lie x

Haireverywhere · 23/09/2018 22:19

It was an accident OP. It fell down the gap, you didn't put it on the floor and forget and tread on it. Can't people just be themselves warts and flaws and all (and phone in the washing machine) anymore?

HildaZelda · 23/09/2018 22:23

@NellMangle Grin

birdladyfromhomealone · 23/09/2018 22:27

I dont want to upset him tbh
Im a klutz and am always breaking things.
things that normally dont matter but this???
It was my stupidity that broke it, thats why I dont feel ready to own up

OP posts:
HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 23/09/2018 22:28

Amazon bends over backwards to replace kindles because they make their money on the kindle books they sell, and you don’t buy kindle books if you don’t have a kindle.....

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 23/09/2018 22:30

Anyway it was a clumsy mistake but it’s not the end of the world, don’t feel too stupid about it!

ohdeardeardear · 23/09/2018 22:31

Take ownership for gods sake. Don't blame the poor dog.

dinosaurkisses · 23/09/2018 22:31

Amazon will likely replace it because they’re banking on potential sales from OP’s DH buying e-books and other digital material earning them more than the cost of a new unit will cost them.

RubyFlint · 23/09/2018 22:33

What will he do if you tell him you broke it by accident?

ferrier · 23/09/2018 22:35

Yup. Amazon will replace. My dh dropped his and there was no quibble at all from Amazon - they sent a replacement immediately.
