To put my son in leggings with kisses on them?

The comments today have included:

"Oh X I normally love what you put him in but those make him look so camp" (camp??? I was shocked)

"Are those your DD's?"

"They're so feminine, he looks like a little girl with short hair"

AIBU to think it's ridiculous? He's not in a dress and tights.

How old is he?

If he is 6 months, not at all.

If he’s 15, I see their point Grin

GreenMeerkat · 23/09/2018 17:03

These are exactly the kind of comments that grind my gears.

Of course YANBU!! He's a child FFS, how can he be camp? And what would be wrong with him if he was?!

changedmyusername6 · 23/09/2018 17:07

He's only 4

If he's too young to choose YANBU.
If he's old enough to choose and wants to wear them YANBU.
If he's of enough to choose and doesn't want to wear then YABU

RocknRolla · 23/09/2018 17:08

At 4 I wouldn’t tbh unless that’s what he choose.

changedmyusername6 · 23/09/2018 17:08

He doesn't have an opinion on what he wears yet

OP posts:
NerrSnerr · 23/09/2018 17:09

At 4 I'd give the choice. My daughter has just turned 4 and she chooses her leggings.

Yabbers · 23/09/2018 17:11

Why did you?

changedmyusername6 · 23/09/2018 17:11

The main colour of the leggings are green

He doesn't tell me what he wants to wear yet, so I just pick it out

OP posts:
changedmyusername6 · 23/09/2018 17:11

Why did I what?

I would assume a girl. Any reason why he is in leggings with kisses on them?- hand me downs, nothing clean or you thought unisex ?

changedmyusername6 · 23/09/2018 17:12

I assumed unisex. They look cute on him.

RocknRolla · 23/09/2018 17:13

I wouldn’t of dressed him in them if he didn’t pick them as I know what people’s reactions would be and I wouldn’t want my child to be upset by hearing comments like that.

NerrSnerr · 23/09/2018 17:14

If he's happy with them I don't see a problem. Children his age would probably notice and comment. We started hearing about boys and girls clothes at preschool age.

muchalover · 23/09/2018 17:14

My grandson has some beautiful pink babygro's. He has some lovely ones with unicorns on them. He wore pink kitten leggings this week and a peach kitten cardigan.

My DD doesn't want him to wear aggressive type images on his clothing (T Rex, tigers or superheroes) and generally boys clothing is dull.

My 21 and 23 y/o DSs wore 'women's' jackets, trousers and shirts to my graduation. They prefer 'women's' clothes because mens are so dull, dull, dull. Their jackets were floral and the other pink.

Clothes are clothes. Wear what you like and people can jog on if they don't like it.

cushioncuddle · 23/09/2018 17:15

I wouldn't put a boy or a girl in them tbh. For me they seem naff.

AmericanEskimoDoge · 23/09/2018 17:16

Honestly, leggings decorated with kisses seem kind of strange for a boy or a girl, at that age (imho).

It's no-one's business what your child wears, of course, and people should be polite and not comment unless specifically asked for an opinion, but it's an unusual choice, so it's not particularly surprising that people have noticed.

DragonMamma · 23/09/2018 17:16

I’d be interested to see these leggings. I can’t imagine what they look like?

changedmyusername6 · 23/09/2018 17:17

They're green. The kisses are subtle tbh

Penis will fall off, it's science.

The same people who tell you off for putting your child in those clothes will then later say "DD only liked pink, we have no idea why. We let them play with what they want, guess it's just nature".

Jakethekid · 23/09/2018 17:17

Kisses as in 'X' or kisses as in smoochy mouth?

DunkerOfSussex · 23/09/2018 17:18

Although is it leggin weather already?!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/09/2018 17:18

I agree cushion. They aren't what I'd put on any little person whether girl or boy.

Makes me think of Bet Lynch or Liz Macdonald.

MrsTeachy · 23/09/2018 17:18

Good grief, dont people have anything better to worry about than the pattern on your son's leggings? YANBU. It does sound like a slightly feminine pattern but who cares? There's worse things in the world than being mistaken for a girl!
