I don't get why people stockpile cleaning stuff! I have 1 bottle Zoflora, 1 bleach , 1 Mr Muscle bathroom cleaner, 1 Mr Muscle window cleaner, 1 bottle of fairy liquid! Would rather have money sitting in my bank instead of my cupboard.

Yep and I’ve found that crockpot cheaper elsewhere 🙈 so it’s definitely affiliate

MaHeidsGouping · 26/10/2018 14:46

I've watched Beckyhomesweethome's story, the one where she explains the IG followers was interesting.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 26/10/2018 15:46

Is there any poosibilty at all that these aren’t affliliate ads or that she isn’t in paid partnerships with companies and that that she is genuinely in love with her minky so much that she won’t try other sponges? I am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt here 😂 Could it just be possible that she is following the rules?

Windbeneathmybingowings · 26/10/2018 15:51

Ok so having just tested this out and looking at the link for the cupboard extenders (wtf are they) that goes to eBay, she does have a campaign id. So does this mean that is affiliated then?

According to this it kind of means she is affiliated partnernetwork.ebay.co.uk/affiliate-tracking/

It’s this bit of the link, right?

Homeinspo · 26/10/2018 16:43

@Windbeneathmybingowings if you go back a few pages i showed how you can see if an ebay is an affilate and hers are. I added some screenshots on how you work it out.

It is very interesting as some other accounts do not state it is an affilate either!

i haven’t read the rest of the thread today because... just because... but from my own personal experience... because i’m with an agency... agencies check that your following is authentic prior to signing you, and as such, if Mrs Hinch’s followers were purchased, Gleam wouldn’t have signed her. just on the topic of bought followers.

assumptionsmakeanarseofuandme · 26/10/2018 18:27

hypeauditor.com/report/mrshinchhome/ there in black and white for everyone to see...

Peaches100 · 26/10/2018 19:07

assumptions - you are with an agency? You posted that gifts didn't have to be declared, did you see my post to you yesterday?

Peaches100 · 26/10/2018 19:10

Here it is again, have a look at the flow chart it is really simple.

assumptions - have you seen the guidelines on making ads clear?

www.asa.org.uk
Are you receiving benefits, freebies, free products, free visits, etc?
CMA rules apply here – you must make sure content is clearly identifiable as being paid-for. For example, by using the label ‘advertisement feature’ or ‘advertisement promotion’

It is simple and her agent will know this.

Shitlandpony · 26/10/2018 20:07

Wow! That is interesting- does that mean nearly half of the engagement is suspicious?

Mrs Hinch 2
nipersvest · 26/10/2018 20:23

Looking at that hype auditor, I think Mrs Hinch's account is genuine, she stats look real, the majority of her followers are english speaking, and the graph looks like organic growth, no odd jumps.

The things that look suspicious are things like a large proportion of Brazilian followers, in the interests of comparison, I did a check on an instamum account, one I have been suspicious of engagement wise and its pretty obvious she's bought followers.

Shitlandpony · 26/10/2018 20:58

Very interesting- I signed up for the proper report, no idea you could do that. I guess that’s how the advertising industry keep an eye on things.

nipersvest · 26/10/2018 21:11

Just to reiterate, the following images are NOT Mrs Hinch's account, her growth is a smooth line so reflects pretty natural growth, these are what dodgy instagram follower growth looks like, I think both of these have bought followers, the tell tale sign is a big jump, followed by a decrease.

Now, this one is Mrs Hinch's follower growth chart, am only posting this as some have speculated as to if there have been bought followers, but I don't think she has, this, to me, looks like natural organic growth, its completely different to the other 2 I posted.

assumptionsmakeanarseofuandme · 26/10/2018 22:03

@peaches100 I am with an agency and read what you posted. What I posted was advice from my agency. A ‘loophole’ if you will which apparently is ASA compliant.

JessicaPeach · 26/10/2018 22:32

Assumptions - what part of

If you’ve been ‘paid’ (either in money or in
gifts/freebies), but it isn’t as part of an affiliate
arrangement and the brand doesn’t have any
‘control’ of what (or even if) you post, it’s unlikely
that the content will count as advertising under
the CAP Code

The CMA
expects influencers to disclose
when they’ve received any form
of monetary payment, a loan of a
product or service, any incentive
and/or commission or have been
given the product they’re posting
about for free.

means you dont have to declare a gift? The 'loophole' that you are using to exploit your followers is presumably that it doesnt have to be marked as an ad but it is still a gift and should be marked as such. Its that kind of attitude that makes people so mad about all of this, its misleading and false - a lie by omission.

assumptionsmakeanarseofuandme · 26/10/2018 22:44

@jessicapeach calm your tits please... i’ve made you aware of the advice that i’ve been given. i’ve never suggested i’ve ever taken such advice. i actually prefer to purchase things myself for my content but thanks for your advice all the same 🤦🏼‍♀️

Peaches100 · 26/10/2018 22:47

Assumptions - you might want to change agency....

JessicaPeach · 26/10/2018 22:52

Ahh ok I thought you said you had read it, I didnt see the part where you said that the advice you got from your agency was obviously incorrect. My mistake.

TitusAndromedom · 27/10/2018 07:58

This debate is why I really like following people like Erica Davies, who I think has been really good about labelling gifts, ads and affiliate links. She’s transparent in her approach and always explains how she arrives at which particular hashtag she uses.

I can understand the temptation to avoid the labels, though. I get tired of Instagram when it feels like people are just constantly trying to sell me things. We’ve just bought a new house and I’m looking at furniture, so it was painful when MoD posted an ad for Loaf featuring a chair she was given. I will address any accusations of jealousy by acknowledging that I absolutely was. I would love to be given a beautiful new chair (which, frankly, I couldn’t afford) in exchange for a post on Instagram, and that kind of negative feeling is likely to put me off engaging with MoD.

For someone like Mrs Hinch, who is constantly posting links to products, the knowledge that they are ads at affiliate links takes away the feeling that she’s just a friend making a recommendation. I think her account does well in part because she is both relatable and aspirational: she shops on eBay at at Poundstretcher, but she is quite glamorous looking and has a very clean house. She presents an image that seems achievable, and much of that would be destroyed if she was honest about how much money she makes from Instagram.

IamPickleRick · 27/10/2018 08:19

My house could just never be like that. I have bags of yarn all over from my crocheting, I have feminine items in a bedroom corner from a period poverty project that I run, I have kids toys that get put away in the evening but instantly come out again the next day, book cases stuffed full (dust magnet!) and a kitchen with baking tins and ingredients falling out of every cupboard. There are crappy Halloween decorations the kids have made from CBeebies magazine hanging up, and clothes the kids have discarded because they are “too hot” (while I sit bundled up, why are they always so hot! 😂)

I could kill all those activities I love and have a spotless home with no things in it that’s easy to clean, but I’d rather have the colour. Germs and all!

OftenHangry · 27/10/2018 10:43

@nipersvest this is exactly why you have an option of buying followers which will be added to your account gradually nowadays. You can also buy followers which actually somewhat engage so it looks more real.

I still don't get the hype tbh.

GoofyIsACow · 27/10/2018 11:02

Where do you watch the TOMM videos you all speak of?
I followed mrs H to see what all the fuss was about but i still don’t get it, i’m convinced she dirties things to re clean them?!

nipersvest · 27/10/2018 11:31

Really @oftenhangry so someone's developing a cleverer way of cheating! Was only a matter of time I suppose. I find it quite sad that an app as impressive and potentially as useful as instagram, and people just can't stop themselves from abusing it in so many ways.

If Mrs Hinch is using affiliate links and not hashtagging them as #AF, it won't be long before the account is reported multiple times. I have no sympathy for accounts that do get reported, the guidelines are quite simple, and anyone who turns an instagram account into a business tool, its their job to learn these guidelines and use them, not abuse them.
