To think that the idea that the Croydon Cat killer is actually a Fox is a load of b*ll**cks

^^just that really. I'm not buying this fox theory. Mutilated cats left on owners doorsteps...don't think even the most intelligent foxes could manage that.

AIBU to feel that either a) the police no longer have resources to spend on this or b) it is a tactic used to try and lull the perpetrator into a false sense of security?

I wouldn't pay too much attention to SNARLS 'confirmed cases' tbh. Confirmed in what way? And by whom? By them? I don't think this couple have any objectivity.

DolorestheNewt · 27/09/2018 16:13

I don't think confirmed means much on either side, really. Both sides are working to a theory and in the absence of any conclusive test that you could possibly apply to determine just who or what was responsible for the injuries, my guess is that neither is truly subjective (though you could certainly argue that the RCVS woman is more likely to be objectively science-led than the SNARL duo, who are more passionate).

LaDaronne · 27/09/2018 17:18

Top reporting from News Shopper's Bromley and Lewisham correspondent there. Right up there with Bob Woodward as investigative journalists go.

LaDaronne · 27/09/2018 17:21

very hard to believe all cases were

Not as hard to believe as a single individual travelling the length and breadth of the country to kill cats over several years without leaving a shred of forensic evidence.

I am willing to concede that some cats might have been killed by disgruntled neighbours / exes / bored teenagers or whatever. Not a single person responsible for four hundred cases or whatever today's number is. That's another issue I have with SNARL, the sheer tunnel vision of their case.

LaDaronne · 27/09/2018 17:25

sorry, posted too soon. That newspaper report is a straight cut-and-paste job from a SNARL press release. That's the state of local news these days, sadly.

LaDaronne · 28/09/2018 10:36

Oh god I know the moment has passed but I'm strangely drawn back to this case and the sheer mind-bending nonsense that people can convince themselves of. From the SNARL FB page:

  • about fifty people writing that foxes don't kill cats. READ THE FUCKING POLICE PRESS RELEASE PEOPLE
  • claims that the cat killer has already moved on to people and the police are covering it up on budget grounds. Yes, the Met is covering up a sick serial killer.
  • someone writing that their cat sustained an injury to its face as if cut by something sharp, like a razor blade. OR ANOTHER CAT'S CLAW, POSSIBLY, NO?

And someone has accused ME online of spreading fake news for questioning it. Honestly, it's the best argument for bringing in media training in schools I've ever seen.

LaDaronne · 28/09/2018 12:56

Someone is now claiming on SNARL's FB that the killer must have paid the Met off. What a bunch of loons.

LaDaronne · 28/09/2018 13:00

"Its obviously the work of some sick mother fuckers from some far distant land where they practice witchcraft in other words muslims". Same source.

DolorestheNewt · 28/09/2018 13:00

This is absolutely riveting! I would look, but I think it would just make me explode with annoyance. Even as someone who's not entirely convinced by the Met's "confirmation" (I don't like confirmation on either side, neither can confirm, they can only work within a theory and judge evidence to the best of their ability) I do like people to have some kind of developed argument and not just rely on wild fantasy, accusation, paranoia etc.

DolorestheNewt · 28/09/2018 13:01

Oh, and mad racism as well. Great.

LaDaronne · 28/09/2018 13:07

"This person has far too many skills to just be another ordinary worker/unemployed. The person doing it has to be someone in high places with skills in killing, and hiding from any and all surveillance. It’s the only logical explanation for the whole thing imo."

Right you are. It's James Bond.

GourmetGold · 13/10/2018 13:00

Of course it's BS. Been going on for years all over the world.

The quality is ropey because it's from 1980. It won an Emmy award.
