There must be someone out there so has heard of it or has been?
It's a new attraction in Brentwood Essex, a 4D horror experience.
There is a room 13 thay apparently.is so scary that they don't believe anyone could stand it and therr is a 2 page waiver to sign before entering.

Anyone know what happens in room 13 ?

The fact that they're actors is pretty irrelevant if they're physically cussing you pain!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/09/2018 17:24

How could you take it seriously? You know they're actors

I get that it could be very triggering for anyone who's suffered abuse, but would hope they wouldn't want to go in the first place

For anyone else it's surely just "entertainment" and half the fun is probably the anticipation ... "Oooooo what am I going to seeeee??"

Like the Chippendales, but with gore Wink

AlwaysFuckingTired · 20/09/2018 17:38

But what does the "torturing" entail exactly?

ThanosSavedMe · 20/09/2018 18:03

Why why why why why?????!!!!

CocktailQueenie · 20/09/2018 18:15

Ok, so have check with a friend who works as a lawyer and you cannot legally give your consent for people to do illegal things you, so maybe the whole Room 13 thing is just BS.

Goldengates · 20/09/2018 18:43

Well that's what I would have thought but then how does the one in America get away with it and how do they know if someone is mentally strong enough to handle it.

Nope not for me and tbh given the type of things these 'actors' have to do it would be extremely concerned at the type of employees they are attracting too!

Belina · 20/09/2018 18:46

I would do it if there was a prize since there isnt no prob judt the same as any local estate with yobs jumping out and swearing at you

DearMrDilkington · 20/09/2018 19:14

Is room 13 included in the price? Not that I'd ever go near the place. I did Saw Alive at Thorpe park a few years back, that was horrendous enough. horror houses aren't for me...

IamPickleRick · 20/09/2018 19:25

I have a feeling it’s BS. Some of these photos look like nightclubs I’ve been in 😂

And the last sentence “the one guy to survive came out looking like THIS” 😱😱😱

Picture smiling man covered in a bit of sugar syrup blood 😂

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 20/09/2018 19:31

the Walking Dead attraction at Universal Studios was enough for me - when you go in they say "don't worry, the actors aren't allowed to touch you..."

...still bloody scary though Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/09/2018 19:43

the same as any local estate with yobs jumping out and swearing at you

Brilliant!!! Grin Grin

As for "what will the torture involve?" An awful lot of autosuggestion, probably. It seems safe to assume visitors won't really be waterboarded or have red hot pokers stuck up their backsides ... but some kid fiddling with a bucket, a hose and a gas supply will probably cause enough jitters to the suggestible for a few posts' worth of how amazing it all was

DearMrDilkington · 20/09/2018 19:47

I'm surprised you can get food there before you go in, I'd imagine quite a few people will just puke it back up in some of the rooms. Equally surprised that they let 16 year olds in, seems they're even allowed in room 13, so it can't be that bad surely?

WinifredTheWhizzpopper · 20/09/2018 19:52

Can a 16yo legally agree to anything? I thought you had to be 18+ to sign a contract. So could they sign a waiver agreeing to... whatever it is they’re agreeing to?

RiddleyW · 20/09/2018 20:05

Ok, so have check with a friend who works as a lawyer and you cannot legally give your consent for people to do illegal things you, so maybe the whole Room 13 thing is just BS.

This is a bit circular - while it’s sort of correct there are lots of things that are legal if you consent but would be illegal without your consent.

A more relevant bit of law is that you cannot limit your liability for death or personal injury. So I they broke your leg you could sue them for personal injury.

Iwantaspangran · 20/09/2018 20:54

I was thinking it might be more like clockwork orange esq? - maybe horrendous videos that you are made to watch? Staged videos but horrendous all the same that would scar people?

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/09/2018 20:55

I'm not sure if Youtube links work here, but just watched this. If you google McKamey Manor, it makes for interesting reading. It's now been shut down.

It had hundreds if not thousands of people on the waiting list to go, I wonder what makes people want to go through this?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/09/2018 21:00

I'm surprised you can get food there before you go in, I'd imagine quite a few people will just puke it back up in some of the rooms

An addition to the "horror" of the atmosphere perhaps? Wink

TheBeatGoesOnandOn · 20/09/2018 21:24

16 year olds and 17 year olds have to have their waiver signed by a parent.

Tbh it sounds like they are trying to create NoEnd House 🤔

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 20/09/2018 21:27

Hadn’t heard of this but it’s literally 10mins from my front door. It will be popular, the people of Brentwood- as TOWIE has proven- are idiots.

adaline · 20/09/2018 21:52

McKamey manor hasn't been shut down - it's just changed locations @covetingthepreciousthings

Wikipedia says it's closed in San Diego but is reopening in Tennessee and Alabama.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2018 21:59

I just showed this to DH , we're in Essex .
He was "Ohh, that looks interesting" then when he heard a bit more he was "Erm, no way"!

DD is 16yo and she wouldn't do this (she's done Escape Rooms but wouldn't go in the 'interactive' rooms in Thorpe Park.
Even the videos for Tulleys Farm Shocktober is too much .

Possibly the worst bit about Room 13 is you go in ALONE

Anyone signing up to go on Hallowe'en?

covetingthepreciousthings · 20/09/2018 22:16

There was a similar horror experience to Room 13 somewhere else in England the other year. You had to sign a waiver, go in alone etc. It was called Psychomanteum.

A reporter went and said it was horrific, I don't think she gave full details but ended up using a safe word to get out.

Someone I know went and also said it was horrendous, I can't remember exactly what she said happened, but it was stuff like being water boarded, having your head put in a toilet, a bag put over your head, a man laying on top of you & blurting explicits at you. (You had to pay an extra fee on top of entrance for this experience in this room I must add!)

It was in the news as a rape charity condemned it, saying it was wrong to have this as entertainment.

TooManyPaws · 20/09/2018 22:28

I was triggered by abuse in union steward training by some arsehole academic from Napier University. Apparently that was OK because "the Prison Service are aggressive in negotiations with management"... Well, the police staff bloody weren't and there's no way I'd be putting myself through any of that, let alone Room 13, after the experience of being hit out of the blue by your own brain and ending up sobbing in a loo.

0teaandtoast0 · 21/09/2018 07:21

Sorry to hear that, Paws.

I'm wondering if the waiver also includes something about not reporting experiences online, hence all the secrecy and mystery. Presumably if people are told that the experience is different for everyone then they'll be worried about being identified from their report. I'm remaining sceptical and think it may well be all part of a marketing plan.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/09/2018 07:28

@0teaandtoast0 yes the waiver does include that, I've read reviews where the reviewer has said they can't say everything due to the waiver.
