To ask how much you enjoy your job on a 1-10 scale?

I was having a conversation with a work-hating friend recently and she claimed that very few people actually enjoy their job more than 2/10 (so they're mostly just doing it for the money) and that it's not realistic to search for a job you love.

I found this to be such a sad idea as I enjoy my job (teaching) a lot, at at least 8/10, and I think everyone should be able to find a job that they mostly enjoy if they look hard enough.

So how much do you enjoy your job on a scale of 1-10 and what do you think about people who just "work to live"?

I have just started a new job and 4 weeks in and it's a 3. Sigh.

My old job in the beginning was a 6 or 7 but new management came in and it was a 2 at best.

I am looking but nothing about for my niche skills.

I absolutely love my job! I look forward to work every day so I’d say a 10.

You spend so much of your life at work it would be such a shame if you didn’t enjoy it.

About a 4. Bored out of my mind.

2/3 I just went back after being a SAHM for 10 years. I'm just doing it for the experience to get something better. It's during school hours so in a way the holy grail but I would rather do almost anything than go. I'll give it a year.

9 I enjoy the problem solving and investigation that my job brings (risk and compliance)

A 10 would be if I won the lottery and had my own art studio - total opposite of my career 😛

Today it’s a big fat 0

Really ungrateful bastards. Can’t wait to look for something else. The big boss is a miserable twat.

One colleague has started to be a lazy fucker and has been flying on the seat of her pants. Turning up late, taking longer for lunches, leaving her kids in the car and then buggers off to drop them to school.
Some of the other staff in different departments are ok, but then there’s some that are off the wall.
I’m going to look for something else, at least it’s term time only (hint), I’m coming up to a year, so I’m not planning on staying much longer 🤞🏼

Good question...!
Unfortunately normally I feel between 2 - 5. Never higher. Round trip daily commute of 150 miles. Out of the house 12 - 14 hours. And a lot of stress / responsibility.

But it is such a secure and not at all badly paid job, with prospects for climbing a the ladder. I'm 32 and classed as the dreaded 'middle management'. Been at the same company for 13 years, they put me through and paid for my uni degree and I've never been at risk of being let go or railroaded. Only progressing as the years go on.

I know I cannot complain. I am very lucky, but it doesn't make me happy. And I never look forward to the alarm going at 5am!!

I would love to teach, young primary. That would be my dream. But the starting salary would be a third of my current, and my future plans and current commitments wouldn't be met.

Like I say I can't and won't complain. But questions like this certainly make you think of what life could have been like had a different route been taken.
