To ask how much you enjoy your job on a 1-10 scale?

I was having a conversation with a work-hating friend recently and she claimed that very few people actually enjoy their job more than 2/10 (so they're mostly just doing it for the money) and that it's not realistic to search for a job you love.

I found this to be such a sad idea as I enjoy my job (teaching) a lot, at at least 8/10, and I think everyone should be able to find a job that they mostly enjoy if they look hard enough.

So how much do you enjoy your job on a scale of 1-10 and what do you think about people who just "work to live"?

8-10. Special school teacher.

1-2 on Sunday mornings when I want to be with my own kids and not doing paperwork!

SelinaMyers · 18/09/2018 21:53

10! Also a teacher. Nice to see so many teachers rating it so highly. Best job in the world!

treaclesoda · 18/09/2018 21:53

I'd give my job a 9. It would be a 10 if I wasn't underpaid for the role I do. It's not an exciting or glamorous job, but I love it and never dread going to work.

Most of the jobs I've had in the past have been about a 5 probably. Didn't hate them, but didn't love them.

I spent several years in a job that I'd rank at about a minus 10. I would have left in a heartbeat if I could have secured another job but it took several years of job hunting to actually get an alternative offer and as time passed my confidence plummeted to the point where I couldn't see an escape. So if I hear of people who loathe their job but don't leave it, I wouldn't necessarily say that they're not trying to change their situation, it could be that they just can't bear the humiliation of admitting to all their failed job applications.

HerRoyalFattyness · 18/09/2018 21:53

Depends on the day and the mood im in but a 7-10.
I work in a baby room in a nursery. Absolutely love it.

PatchworkElmer · 18/09/2018 21:54

The job? 9 for the actual stuff I’m contracted to do.

The organisation I work for? 1.

My job is very niche so I can generally separate it mentally from the other crap. But it has been getting to me recently, so I’m looking to move on.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/09/2018 21:54

2, off with work related stress. My organisation does not care for mental health.

MaisyPops · 18/09/2018 21:55

It's interesting how many teachers love teaching but hate certain elements of the job (like pointless paperwork writing up the fairly basic parts of actually doing our job)

travailtotravel · 18/09/2018 22:01

I love my job but any given day it will vaccilate- right now it's not great because my fuckwittery tolerance threshold is reaching its limit. Daily FTT rating 4. Usual happy rating 8 -9

onewayoflife · 18/09/2018 22:05

9 on a bad day.
I would do it for free if I didn't need the money

ThunderInMyHeart · 18/09/2018 22:06

What the heck is the scale?! 10 means I reach Nirvana every day? I’d do it for free? I don’t want to punch things when I’m there?

Sallystyle · 18/09/2018 22:07

It would be a 10 but the one night shift a fortnight knocked one off.

PurpleFlower1983 · 18/09/2018 22:07

I’d say it varies from 2 to 9 depending on the day...

Peachypips · 18/09/2018 22:10

I am a ten. My job is hard but I absolutely love it- work in a psychiatric inpatient unit.

Bit staggered by those who are saying 'if it's a 2 then change it' - as if that's an option for everyone. Are people not aware that for a large majority of the population there are absolutely no choices as far as education and employment go?

For many (if not most) it's the job they have or nothing, which means not putting dinner in the table.

Sorry to drag the mood down! Grin

FoodieToo · 18/09/2018 22:12

I am a 9 and maybe a 10. Primary teacher, special ed. but in Ireland where it's a lot less intense than in the UK ( from what I have read here! ).

Boodapoo · 18/09/2018 22:13

I'd say 7/10. I don't think I can last in a job that's just a job. I enjoy working with young, enthusiastic, eager to learn people. It's only the office politics that I don't like.

Noboozeforme · 18/09/2018 22:17

Mostly a 9. Love my job.

Social worker.

tigercub50 · 18/09/2018 22:20

Good thread. I’d say a 7. I work part - time in a well known store on the tills & enjoy chatting to the customers. I get on well with my colleagues but worry way too much about what they think of me or if I’ve annoyed someone. The main thing I would change is the rotas, as we don’t get much notice of our hours for the next week so it can be difficult to plan things.

Wishiwasonholiday1 · 18/09/2018 22:24

10/10 I teach in a private school and it's amazing, lovely staff and pupils, sometimes tricky parents but I love it and I love going to work. I've worked in some tricky schools and count myself very lucky now.

Gushpanka · 18/09/2018 22:24

8 or 9. Love my job, the work os interestijg, i identify with the cause, nice colleagues, pleasant working conditions.
It'd be a 10 if there were less work, more resources to do it and less politics.

Kim82 · 18/09/2018 22:32

I’d say job is a 7 (gp receptionist, bit repetitive, we take a lot of crap for things that are beyond our control and some patients expect the world) but colleagues are a 10. We’re a great team with no weak link, we all get on incredibly well and the doctors are very supportive, helpful, approachable and friendly. I like going to work because of the people I work with rather than the job.

itwillbealrightpromise · 18/09/2018 22:32

I'd say anywhere from a 6-10. I'm a bar and restaurant manager, so I take each day as it comes. Every day is different, I get to talk to new people every day, and I have lovely, dedicated team members. On the other hand, it's very physical, long, unpredictable hours, and sometimes thankless, but most days I love what I do.

Monday55 · 18/09/2018 22:34

11/10

Love my job :)

Lazypuppy · 18/09/2018 22:34

Mostly a 9, some days a 10.

Love my job and my team

OwlinaTree · 18/09/2018 22:38

8 to 10, depending on what's going on. Just wish i had more hours in the day to get everything done!

WheelyCote · 18/09/2018 22:47

Nurse
Job Im very proud of and love but the reality of it is brutal.
