To ask how much you enjoy your job on a 1-10 scale?

I was having a conversation with a work-hating friend recently and she claimed that very few people actually enjoy their job more than 2/10 (so they're mostly just doing it for the money) and that it's not realistic to search for a job you love.

I found this to be such a sad idea as I enjoy my job (teaching) a lot, at at least 8/10, and I think everyone should be able to find a job that they mostly enjoy if they look hard enough.

So how much do you enjoy your job on a scale of 1-10 and what do you think about people who just "work to live"?

Interesting thread! I'm a GP and the seeing patients bit probably an 8. But when I still had 50 blood results to check when I'd already been working for 12 hours I was at about -2.
Love the job apart from the admin!

dancinfeet · 18/09/2018 22:49

at least an 11. I love my job, sad that it doesn't make me very much money, but I love what I do!

Howtodeal · 18/09/2018 22:49

Right now about a 5, so I'm doing ok. Varies between I would say a 2 and a 7 on a very very good day, there have been many days where I'm on the verge of walking out the door. However good pay + flexible working arrangements has me trapped for now, and believe me I have looked hard for something else!

mehhh · 18/09/2018 22:49

5... half and half, I like what I'm doing, love the people and mostly enjoy the atmosphere in the office, but I feel like I'm not in love with or passionate about what I'm doing, I feel like I've just ended up doing it

LifeofClimb · 18/09/2018 22:50

8 - 9. I've ended up in the industry I always wanted to work in since I was a child, but in a very different capacity! I do love it though and I do use a lot of the skills I have. Recently promoted and enjoying more of a challenge and enjoying the decision making and business development.

Linzbe · 18/09/2018 22:50

I love my job. I'm definitely at a 9/10.
I work for an online retail company in our manufacturing / production department making bespoke items.

Teacher-2/3. Time to leave....

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 18/09/2018 22:51

9

Love my job. What I don’t love is the constant passing the buck when things go wrong

Retraining soon as this particular job won’t open many doors

Blobbyweeble · 18/09/2018 22:57

Depends on how much abuse I get but generally it’s about a 9.

Ohyesiam · 18/09/2018 23:02

8/9
I would find it soul destroying to do a job I didn’t love. I that makes me a special snow flake, then so be it.

FuckingHateRain · 18/09/2018 23:04

Minus 3!
Hate it
Only there for the money

gggrrrargh · 18/09/2018 23:10

Interesting question. Between 6-7 most days. Some lovely colleagues but the work keeps pilling up, and it’s a job that involves a lot of emails and repetition.

Rednaxela · 18/09/2018 23:10

Shit day with people being knobs -10

Nice day with a half staffed office and no drama 10. As nice as a job could be!

Labradoodliedoodoo · 18/09/2018 23:17

Mostly a 10. Occasionally more 7 8 9. First job that I’ve enjoyed this much. The past jobs have been more 2 5 6

FTFF · 18/09/2018 23:56

7 on a bad day 9 on a good day for me. I work with offenders and get abused/assaulted/threatened daily. Personally I couldn't stay and put up with all the shit if I didn't actually like/love it.

abeautifulmess1234 · 19/09/2018 00:07

1 and that's being generous

MarthasGinYard · 19/09/2018 00:09

Generally
9.5Smile

Polarbearflavour · 19/09/2018 07:04

4/5.

I work part time at a university. It’s okay, the people are friendly and it’s not stressful but it’s not challenging or particularly interesting. Just something to do for four hours a day to pay the mortgage.

I’m setting up my own business doing dog walking so will have to see how that goes.

I’ve never had a job I really liked. Come on lottery win!

positivepixie · 19/09/2018 07:10

9 or 10.

I think I was lucky that I knew what I wanted to do when I went to Uni so I'm working in the industry I have a passion for and work on the most amazing projects. Well paid and fits in with family life, great teams and a sense of achievement most days!

whatalifethisis · 19/09/2018 08:02

Used to be a 10. Now due to cutbacks and lack of resources etc. about a 3. Need to leave before I keel over from the stress. Just hoping I can get another job at the age of 58!

Metalhead · 19/09/2018 08:09

Mostly about 2. Some days might creep up to a 4 or 5, but they’re very rare... been looking for something else for ages but can’t seem to get anything Sad.

RayneDash · 19/09/2018 09:00
  1. I love teaching adults but hard work!
LittleKitty1985 · 19/09/2018 09:05

@Peachypips Bit staggered by those who are saying 'if it's a 2 then change it' - as if that's an option for everyone. Are people not aware that for a large majority of the population there are absolutely no choices as far as education and employment go? For many (if not most) it's the job they have or nothing, which means not putting dinner in the table

Aren't there always some choices though? For example moving to a similar job with nicer colleagues can make a huge difference.

There are people posting high ratings on here for all kinds of jobs including relatively poorly paid and/or unskilled ones.

I think that no one should have to put up with less than 5/10, but that for some people the safe familiarity of their shit job traps them there.

  1. My job is dull and low paid but it's family friendly, flexible and low stress which makes it worth it.
MissusGeneHunt · 19/09/2018 09:06

4 at best at the moment. Has been a 9, has been a 1. If I won the lottery they wouldn't see me for dust.
