I agree. 🇨🇦

Rot in hell for being silly and unpleasant? Then where do we put Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot?

While I agree that “rot in hell” is a major overreaction, “silly and unpleasant” is rather nasty minimising of actions that are deeply and deliberately hurtful.

Let’s not pretend Katie Hopkins is some kind of giggling silly woman who doesn’t realise the pain she causes. She realises exactly how hurtful what she says is, and it’s why she says it. Because she derives some kind of twisted satisfaction from bullying and demeaning people.

That is beyond silly and unpleasant, it is cruel, spiteful and deliberately targets people who don’t have a voice.

So while I think issuing threats online, and saying things as bad as she has said is not the way to behave, I also cannot find an ounce of sympathy for a woman who has made, and lost, a fortune on the back of other people’s misery.

KlutzyDraconequus · 18/09/2018 08:34

She's reaping the hatred she has sown.

I remember seeing her in this morning and whittering about kids names. At one point she moaned about kids with places as names, Phil pointed out that her kid is called India, that's apparently different.
Told me all I need to know about her.

longwayoff · 18/09/2018 08:55

Children named after place of conception. She wouldn't like that would she? Otherwise one of her children would be called 'random farmer's field'.

bista1 · 18/09/2018 09:15

Katie Hopkins did a bizarre interview with Jodie Marsh (both in bed in their pyjamas..) where she explained that she didn't want to take up Jack Monroe's offer to settle because she didn't want to pay money to a migrant charity. So she was stupid rather than arrogant (in this case...). She's also utterly unrepentant about the libel though she admits it was a case of mistaken identity www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/katie-hopkins-vile-post-debt-13254846

YeTalkShiteHen · 18/09/2018 09:17

So she went bust giving all her money to lawyers to avoid giving it to a migrant charity?

There’s a certain amount of justice in that I think.

MaggieSimpsonsPacifier · 18/09/2018 09:23

Hatey Hopkins is vile - but she said the things she said because it got attention.

That “STOP MAKING STUPID PEOPLE FAMOUS” sign has never been so appropriate!

Gersemi · 18/09/2018 09:30

Rot in hell for being silly and unpleasant?

It's much more than being "silly and unpleasant", isn't it? It was using a public platform to put forward hateful views about people who are, in her eyes, the wrong colour, nationality, or sexual orientation, careless enough to have become disabled or out of a job, or simply people who dare to espouse tolerance. And every time she did it, she fostered the view amongst the hard of thinking that the unacceptable is actually OK. That is how racism and intolerance spreads.

YeTalkShiteHen · 18/09/2018 09:32

I absolutely believe she (and others like her) have contributed towards the ignorant, hateful, selfish and inward looking shitty society we appear to have now.

It’s fucking awful.

Twotailed · 18/09/2018 09:33

She’s not silly and unpleasant. She used hitler’s own words to call for a ‘final solution’ for migrants. She has a following of thousands who are influenced by her views. The only difference between her and Hitler is that we’ve learned from the latter not to elect people like Hopkins to the role of prime minister.

YeTalkShiteHen · 18/09/2018 09:34

I’m not sure that’s true, sadly.

headstone · 18/09/2018 09:38

She put forward unpleasant views that exist in the society which you could say have a platform for unpleasant views, however it also allowed people to criticise and analyse and debate these views.
I’m not saying what she did was good, but I doubt it is as harmful as it seems.

headstone · 18/09/2018 09:40

Hitler murdered millions of people, Kh posted unpleasant opinions, abit of a hyperbole really.

YeTalkShiteHen · 18/09/2018 09:42

KH posted statements using the exact words Hitler used and praised the concept.

Hardly hyperbole in a time where racist attacks are on the rise?

It is obviously hyperbole. If the only thing hitler did was post unpleasant views in a newspaper column 4million plus people would not have been murdered.

YeTalkShiteHen · 18/09/2018 09:45

headstone so as long as 6 million people aren’t killed and it’s just random people being attacked because they share KHs views that’s ok? Got it. Confused

corythatwas · 18/09/2018 09:50

headstone if unpleasant views had not been posted in newspapers, shouted at rallies and drummed into children at school, Hitler would hardly have been in a position to roll out the Final Solution. He didn't do it on his own, you know. He had the aid of a propaganda machine.

longwayoff · 18/09/2018 09:54

Yes, KH has profited immensely from publicising her vile political views. Now she has to pay out a bit. I disagree headstone, I am sure what she did was just as harmful as it seems, if not more so. This is a woman who bragged to the media about her success in seducing another woman's husband in a field. His, by now ex, wife and daughter learned of this from the media. So she isn't just a person who spouts right wing propaganda for personal gain, she is someone who beIieves society's rules don't apply to her because she's special, special enough to lecture the rest of us on acceptable standards of behaviour. There's a name for people like that and we all need to avoid them and oppose their views.

Everanewbie · 18/09/2018 10:46

Yeah a lot of people in debt are there because of irresponsibility and bad choices, but I always think ''there but for the grace of god go I'' in that you never know what is around the corner. I'm not glad that she's in a mess, but there is a kind of poetic justice to it.

If anything good comes of it, I hope she learns some humility and manages to write/speak with a little more balance and compassion in the future.

Gersemi · 18/09/2018 16:04

She put forward unpleasant views that exist in the society which you could say have a platform for unpleasant views, however it also allowed people to criticise and analyse and debate these views.

Since when was it the case that the fact that unpleasant views exist gives carte blanche for encouraging racism, disablism and outright intolerance? If you were the victim of a racist attack, would your first reaction seriously be "That's great, now people can criticise and analyse and debate this person's racism"?

IWishIHadEvenMorePlasticTat · 18/09/2018 16:11

I've always considered KH to be mentally ill. I hope her children are alright.

Twotailed · 18/09/2018 16:53

Do you think Hitler just woke up one day and murdered 6 million jews?

Of course he fucking didn’t. He spent years sharing his opinions, whipping people into a frenzy, writing scaremongering works, inciting hatred. Creating a narrative that eventually led the German people to perform or turn a blind eye to the most horrific crimes imaginable.

Just because he got further than KH doesn’t mean they aren’t cut from the same cloth.

Lweji · 18/09/2018 17:00

it also allowed people to criticise and analyse and debate these views.

She never posted to elicit debate, though.

It's just sad that such views exist, and that those spouting them are quite happy to excrete them, but not put them to scrutiny.
Critics are soon put down as snowflakes and the sort.

Oblomov18 · 18/09/2018 17:15

My previous post got deleted.

No fan of vile KH.

No fan of JM who I think is very disturbed. Not sure what stage of her trans journey she is at right now, but I'm just not keen on anything about her.

KH won her libel? Case against JM and thus had to pay her £107, 000 legal fees. Apparently. Disgrace that this ran to £107k of legal fees in the first place. What a farce!
