Talk to me about Wolverhampton looking to move in 3-4 years time when older one buys a home

We’re a mixed family so want to move to a diverse but nice area we will have about 300k to spend

Anyone

I live about ten miles north east of Wolverhampton. I find it to be a fairly depressing place in general and would never choose to live there Some very nice places on the outskirts however of course.

cycleasy · 16/09/2018 21:51

Yeah it's ok, a very big town and the whole area to the south feels very urban sprawl, iyswim. I wouldn't choose to live there and the accent is awful 😄

yips · 16/09/2018 21:54

Yeh I wouldn't move there. Have you ever been?

Knackerelli · 16/09/2018 21:56

Codsall is nice, decent sized houses with shops, leisure centre and on a train line so you can access Telford, Birmingham, Shrewsbury etc. If you want closer to Wolves probably Tettenhall. If you’re not bothered by being close to the city centre then there’s lots of villages on the outskirts in the countryside. Albrighton, Shifnal, Brewood, Church Eaton, Wheaton Aston, depends how rural you want to go. I regularly get stuck on my mad school/work run behind a tractor 😀

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 21:57

No I am not interested in living in a village we are a mixed family so living somewhere we’re their are very few black or BME people is not an option for us

We have never been so hence why we’re asking we did think of Birmingham however dh says wolves is pretty mixed plus we would be pretty much mortgage free

Knackerelli

We’re looking more urban that rural like I said looking for a good but diverse area

Wolves is not that mixed, especially compared to Birmingham. It wouldn’t occur to me to relocate there on the basis of being racially comfortable (I am mixed race too, from Birmingham)

Knackerelli · 16/09/2018 22:01

Wolves is definitely mixed. Any chance of coming for a weekend and driving round different areas to get a feel of it?

LtGreggs · 16/09/2018 22:02

I grew up in Wolves - but didn't move back after leaving for uni. I'd say it's a pretty non-special industrial town. Nicer suburbs to west and then villages outside.

Birmingham is more interesting - I'd prefer that if had a choice?

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 22:03

MissionItsPossible

So Birmingham then we know we’re to live in Birmingham

Thanks

Ha! Crossed post missionitspossible 😀

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 22:06

Looking for the following

Other BME people
A decent church
Youngish families
And easy transport to brum

Random18 · 16/09/2018 22:07

I wouldn’t move there!! But I’m sure there are some nice areas. We've now moved further South in the Midlands and I much prefer it. Just the whole feel is better and it is much less Industrial.
Should say I never actually lived in Wolves but nearby. I was in the Black Country.
You could definitely get somewhere decent for 300k.
I personally would go for Black Country with easier access to Brum. Much better than Wolves.

MissionItsPossible · 16/09/2018 22:07

So Birmingham then we know we’re to live in Birmingham

Thanks

Please don’t make your choice of where you to move from me, a random person on the Internet, lol.

Gravelface · 16/09/2018 22:07

I thought wolves was a city, is it just a big town? Agree that though the outlying areas mentioned are lovely they're not particularly mixed areas. Agree that closer to Birmingham may be better in that regard. Good luck!

MissionItsPossible · 16/09/2018 22:09

I would also say Black Country over Wolverhampton

bigsunflower · 16/09/2018 22:09

How about Coventry?

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 22:10

Thanks

bigsunflower · 16/09/2018 22:10

Lots of churches here for all religions, excellent transport to Birmingham on the trains takes about 20 mins. All races and religions here.

MissionItsPossible · 16/09/2018 22:10

Kancker - do you think Wolves is mixed? Maybe it’s by comparison growing up in central brum but I don’t think it to be!

Gravelface · 16/09/2018 22:12

I'm working in Coventry currently and it seems to be a massive shithole. I would pick Birmingham over there, too.

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 22:12

bigsunflower

How about Coventry?

But to far ds will be moving out so we don’t any to be too far away from him

Random18 · 16/09/2018 22:14

West Brom May be worth a look. You can get to B’ham by tram which is a great plus. It’s very mixed and well located for motorways. You could do well for 300k

hottestsausage · 16/09/2018 22:18

Try Bearwood just outside Birmingham. Your money would go far enough for a really nice house and it's a good little community with lots going for it.

I wouldn't live anywhere in Wolverhampton if you paid me - I worked there for a long time.
