Talk to me about Wolverhampton looking to move in 3-4 years time when older one buys a home

We’re a mixed family so want to move to a diverse but nice area we will have about 300k to spend

Thanks we don’t want a village

@1981fishgut

I like Wolvo. Has it doghole areas, and its nice areas.. like anywhere.

Good transport links, easy to get places for work and concerts and nightlife and theatres and big shops - and only a half hour on the train to the airport etc.....

Perton is OK, (mid 70's/early 80's homes,) and far enough out of the city to avoid noise and yobs! Penn is OK too, and Tettenhall... Finchfield is nice too, but quite expensive (Victorian.)

Codsall is lovely and not far from Wolvo. And on the train route... But again, a bit expensive.

Wolvo has a great range of shops in the city centre, and several fairly big shopping centres.. Also close to other smaller places to visit, like Telford and Shifnal and Kidderminster and Bridgnorth.... And Merry Hill Shopping Centre is not far away, and Wolvo is only 20 mins on the train to Birmingham.

If you are a mixed family, then you will have no issues, as Wolvo is quite diverse.

I would rather Wolverhampton than Birmingham personally. Smaller and less polluted and less crazy, but still convenient for everything. Would also choose Wolvo over Coventry. You will get somewhere nice in or around Wolvo for 300K.

Good luck.

We could move to a village here and get a nice home tbh but can’t really deal with being the only blacks in the
Village
We would rather a urban or market town

OP posts:
Racmactac · 16/09/2018 22:23

God no. You wouldn't pay me to live there.
Yes it's mixed but it's a shithole.

imnotalpharius · 16/09/2018 22:26

I can get to Birmingham centre in under 40minutes, walking to a team stop. Lots of good churches around, of lots of types. Mixed area, what sort of schools are you after. (I'm not native but love wolves now and think it gets an unfair reputation).

butterflysugarbaby · 16/09/2018 22:28

Yeah Wolverhampton is slagged off a LOT, and always by people who don't live there.

Fucks me right off. Hmm

butterflysugarbaby · 16/09/2018 22:29

I don't live there by the way... I live 12-16 miles away, but I do like it. Yeah it has shitty parts, but every fucking city and big town does! Hmm

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 22:31

imnotalpharius

We not worried about schools my children are adopted so get priority places

So we’re lucky that is not a issue

We’re we currently live has a bad reputation however we love it and find as a mixed family feels much more safe and relaxed that we ever did living in the

Mainly white area that was considered to be really good

OP posts:
eddiemairswife · 16/09/2018 22:36

Lived here for over half my life. Last time I checked it was over 37% ethnic minority. Housing comparatively cheap. Penn, Tettenhall, Finchfield decent areas to live. Majority of schools are rated 'Good'. Football team (if you are interested). Countryside easily accessible.

butterflysugarbaby · 16/09/2018 22:36

Whatever you decide OP, I hope you and your family are very happy. Smile

wildewillow · 16/09/2018 22:37

Grew up in Wolverhampton. The only places when there would be a diverse mixed community arent the nicest areas. Codsall, Perton, Bilbrooke are nice but probably not that multicultural.
Birmingham is a lot better. I lived in Moseley which is really nice. Kings Heath, Hall green, Solihull, Harborne, Selly oak, Bournville, Quinton are all ok areas. Also a bit further out but Bromsgrove and Sutton Coldfield are decent too.

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 16/09/2018 22:41

Wolverhampton gets slagged off. It's not a shit hole, there are good and bad areas everywhere.

I'm not from there but I think very fondly of it, mainly due to the people. I have friends in Codsall (South Staffs) the train home from Birmingham is packed like sardines during peak time. Have a look in your price bracket and visit a church service.

People on are very rude about Wolverhampton and they can fuck right off. There are some cities that have awful reputations that are undeserved that people like to bash.

user1511042793 · 16/09/2018 23:06

I live just outside. It is very diverse and there are many good areas. Fuck off to all those who think it’s ok to take piss out the accent. You don’t live here and thank fuck for that. I am with you about villages they’re not for me. Come and have a look round at the West Mids. It’s diverse and I love that.

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 23:14

user1511042793

Can you name some areas

OP posts:
Maginthemirror · 16/09/2018 23:16

I married a man from Wolverhampton and stayed here after he died. Good and bad areas - I live in one of the less nicer areas to be honest but I am happy. Good mix of everyone , hate people making fun of my adopted home.

1981fishgut · 16/09/2018 23:17

Can I have some names of places please so we can start looking

Longing for Wolverhampton by Adrienne Storme
AKA Adrian Mole.

Jason Westmoreland's copper-flecked eyes glanced cynically around the terrace. He was sick of Capri and longed for Wolverhampton.
He flexed his remaining fingers and examined them critically. The accident with the chain saw had ended his brilliant career in electronics. His days were now devoid of microchips. There was a yawning chasm in his life. He had tried to fill it with the travel and self-gratification but nothing could blot out the memories he had of Gardenia Fetherington, the virginal plastic surgeon, at St. Bupa's in Wolverhampton. Jason brooded, blindly blinking back big blury tears....

Goingalonenow · 16/09/2018 23:56

Finchfield, Perton, Pendeford. Anything that side of town with your budget. Merridale, Fordhouses if you want to go cheaper.

Wolves is very mixed (I'm mixed race and have always lived here). It's not as bad as people make out. We have Bantock Park near to us now which I love.

Finchfield is lovely. As is Castlecroft.

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 17/09/2018 00:07

It's a depressed shithole, with a burgeoning gang problem, visible rough sleepers, drug addiction , beggars and general antisocial behaviour.

There are diminishing job opportunities, we have one of the highest proportions of empty shops, the central shopping centre has given up trying and we are represented on almost every survey about poverty, poor academic achievement and health.

I regret moving here. It's an embarrassment.

9amtrain · 17/09/2018 00:12

Don't do it it's an absolute dump.

butterflysugarbaby · 17/09/2018 00:37

Last 2 posts are on the wrong thread. They are referring to London.

9amtrain · 17/09/2018 00:49

Wolverhampton is not a shithole but London is?

Excuse me while I mop up my piss.

Highheels1 · 17/09/2018 02:46

hottestsausage

Try Bearwood just outside Birmingham.

Agree!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/09/2018 03:15

I'm very impressed at how super-organised you are! You sound very wise in starting to think through your options and plan ahead now.

Redditch might be worth considering, if it's not on the 'wrong' side of Birmingham for your requirements. It has quite a young and diverse population and is probably best thought of as a 'Little Birmingham'. Although Redditch itself has plenty to offer, the locals pretty much all refer to Brum as 'town'!

It has a number of fantastic big parks and other greenery, great shopping with easy, cheapish parking and a variety of local churches with easy access to lots more in neighbouring towns and cities. Its road system is outstanding - no traffic jams to speak of, even at rush hour, unless there's an accident - and it's the only town I know of where you can legally and safely drive through the middle of it at 70mph. Road and rail links to Birmingham are excellent (no direct rail links to anywhere else, though - you have to go everywhere via Brum).

We lived there for four years and found lots of positives with the town, but we moved away to a smaller nearby town as it was a bit too big and busy for us. It has a dozen or more districts - one in particular isn't very desirable and is (on the whole) very unfriendly; and a couple of the posher ones might not be as 'diversity-friendly' as you'd hope, but a lot of the ones in between might just fit the bill, especially nearer the town centre.

You'd get plenty for your money pretty much anywhere there. Not trying to sell it to you, if it isn't what you're looking for, but you might possibly want to consider it! Feel free to PM me should you happen to want any more info at all.
