Just a bit of fun..

I am not on FB, DH is. People we know regularly go out for meals and drinks. They always post their meal with some comment about their evening.

Don't get me wrong - I am not criticising - in fact DH and me find this highly amusing. It gives us a good laugh because we just don't get it. Why would anyone be interested in what you have for dinner lol?

Do you ever post your meal on FB when you are out for food and drinks? Genuinely interested - either that or we have odd friends :) :)

Sometimes when it’s special - we have stopped buying each other presents and instead take each other to Michelin Starred restaurants.

So, in summary:

Le Gavroche and Petrus, yes; Pizza Express, no.

Moominfan · 16/09/2018 19:22

Not on fb that's wrong crowd. I post on Instagram

Merryoldgoat · 16/09/2018 19:23

I can’t work Instagram and Twitter - I’m too old I think 😬

Sitranced · 16/09/2018 19:24

No chance, and I'm likely to unfollow or unfriend anyone who does.

Marie0 · 16/09/2018 19:24

Merry - yes totally agree - that's a 'special meal'

But my friends take pics when they're at the local curry house at their chicken madras as if to say 'look at my curry!!' That's the bit which is I think is funny - but I guess a lot of people post any old thing on facebook!

I haven't used fakebook for years but one of the many (many, many, many) reasons I left it was the pictures of food and 'nom noms'. Who gives a shit, really.

Twotailed · 16/09/2018 19:25

Only if it was something fun or unusual like a fancy cake or something.

kaitlinktm · 16/09/2018 19:25

By the time I think about doing it I've already scarfed it down!

Redglitter · 16/09/2018 19:27

The only time I have was when I was out for dinner for my birthday. The dessert I had looked amazing & they had written a birthday message in chocolate round the rim of the plate. The photo was taken because it looked so amazing posting it on FB was very much an afterthought

sonlypuppyfat · 16/09/2018 19:31

DD and I have a lot of penpals abroad and I like to see what they are eating, and they like to see what we are, it's fun

Excited101 · 16/09/2018 19:35

Maybe you should unfriend some of these people, you clearly prefer to mock them...

Marie0 · 16/09/2018 19:37

Excited101 - it's just a bit of fun and they know we find it amusing - they are not offended

It's the same as people who "check in" everywhere on FB. To me it says, "look how busy and interesting my life is" (even if it's just the local costa).

It's lazy boasting. Maybe they don't think it is but that's my interpretation and it makes me grumpy.

I'm definitely the wrong generation for it!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 16/09/2018 19:38

Sometimes I do, if it's something really special or noteworthy. For example, on holiday recently I had the most amazing seafood platter so I did post a picture of that.
I have also posted a picture of a toad in the hole that I made once as it came out looking beautiful (so fluffy!) and I was really impressed with myself Grin

An ordinary dinner or a curry house/Pizza Express type meal out - nope!

Itchytights · 16/09/2018 19:41

No

No one gives a shiny shite.

Me included.

Eliza9917 · 16/09/2018 19:41

I post pictures of my food.
On Instagram and Facebook.
Of things I've made or when I eat out.
I don't care if people don't like to look at it, it's my wall.
Most people engage on my pics of my homemade stuff so not everyone hates food pics.
I've given a lot of recipes out.
Several people have made things I've made after seeing my pics (Jamie Oliver's sticky teriyaki chicken wings, for instance).
I like looking at other peoples pics of what they are eating.

Marie0 · 16/09/2018 19:42

Orange Mini - Yes that is it - they do the same at the airport as well LOL

IToldYouIWas - yes that 's different - hope it was as tasty as as good as it looked

fabularz · 16/09/2018 19:43

I don't on Facebook but I do on Instagram.

Then again I'm a food and travel writer for a living sooooo.....justifiably, maybe?

Marie0 · 16/09/2018 19:49

I sometimes WhatsApp pics if particularly impressive cakes/desserts to a couple of friends but wouldn't dream of putting on FB unless it was something really extraordinary

I have an FB friend who describes the dinner (or 'supper' as she insists on calling it) she has cooked most evenings, very strange if you ask me

Yesterday's example So tonight,,, a loin of venison is currently slumbering, after being seared with tarragon and butter, to be served with dauphinois potatoes, French beans, a reduction and a rather splendid Pinot Grigio

Helipad · 16/09/2018 19:51

What I find worse is when people post a pic of an empty and dirty plate after they’ve eaten. Usually implying the dinner was amazing so every last bit of morcel is gone. But it makes me feel bit 🤢 seeing a plate with swirls of gravy left 🤢

Another one is a coffee cup - again after the coffee has already been drunk. Just don’t understand it at all. I don’t want to see anyone’s dirty crockery!

9amtrain · 16/09/2018 19:54

@Helipad that's so... Pathetic!

9amtrain · 16/09/2018 19:54

🤢 and gross

Marie0 · 16/09/2018 19:56

Shagged - your friend sounds like an amazong cook :)
