and my "next destination" because I'm not a UK citizen.
My next destination is home ffs - another town in the UK. I'm a UK resident and taxpayer. Why do they insist on this, other hotels don't?

Every hotel I’ve ever been to abroad has wanted my passport so I assume it’s the same here

BIWI · 13/09/2018 22:50

I'm not quite sure what you think the problem is? It's fairly routine to be asked for your passport in foreign countries when you're staying in hotels, along with your credit card details. It's to protect the hotel as much as anything.

How would Premier Inn know that you're not a UK citizen? If they're asking for your passport then presumably they ask all their guests the same thing?

BritInUS1 · 13/09/2018 22:51

YABU it's standard

babyarz · 13/09/2018 22:53

I used to work in a premier inn in the UK and and we used to take passport or id if someone was paying cash incase any extra charges occurred (smoking fine in room etc).

DorothyL · 13/09/2018 22:54

The point is it's not a foreign country. It's the country I've lived in for 20 years.
For short stay visitors I can see the reason, sort of, but not for someone who's been a tax-paying resident for over two decades.

They ask for nationality on online check in.

It's the UK government forcing businesses to double up as internal border guards because a country that populated a large fraction of the world in previous centuries has lost its shit now that a few people want to travel in the other direction.

Sorry about that. Hopefully we'll get over it soon.

BIWI · 13/09/2018 22:59

But I don't see what the problem is? Can you explain why you feel so aggrieved?

DorothyL · 13/09/2018 23:01

Because I feel it treats me as an outsider/foreigner/stranger when I'm none of those.

?

OP posts:
BIWI · 13/09/2018 23:04

But technically you are, @DorothL. I doubt very much it's a personal thing though! I don't take it personally when I'm travelling abroad, to be asked for my passport.

I understand you're a UK resident, but it's not the same as being a passport-holding citizen of the country.

BIWI · 13/09/2018 23:05

(And I have no idea what ana is on about!)

But in many day to day things it is. Tax law. Access to NHS. Opening a bank account. And and and

So why is booking a hotel room different?

OP posts:
BIWI · 13/09/2018 23:06

I don't know. It's just how hotels operate all over the world. Honestly. Don't take it personally.

(And I still have no clue what ana is on about Grin)

NonaGrey · 13/09/2018 23:07

ana “racist slur” what racist slur??

Your posts are almost incoherent Ana.

NoTeaForMe · 13/09/2018 23:08

@ana18 are you on glue?

I can see why that would annoy you OP! I’ve stayed at premier inns many times and have never given my passport number. I guess they have no way of knowing you live in the UK though.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 13/09/2018 23:08

Tell them you don’t have a passport and see what they suggest?

I work at a Yha and we have to see photo ID for all guests, but a driving licence is sufficient. Not everyone has a passport.

What the jeff is Ana on about??

How is OP saying that that she has been asked her nationality offensive or racist??

Do you need to look up nationality in the dictionary?

Minnie747 · 13/09/2018 23:09

Yes, I think I’d be annoyed in your position too. That’s the second time I’ve seen ana spout random shite on MN this eve, take no notice.

liverbird10 · 13/09/2018 23:09

Eh?!

ana18 · 13/09/2018 23:11

It's a legal document ! You need for any part of your life ! What does someone have to hide if it is an issue for?
