I'm in bed. Feel wide awake, alternatively hot then cold. I've got leg cramps, greasy hair (wtaf), I feel really grumpy. Can't relax. I know ill wake up again in about 3 hours, drenched in sweat with restless legs. It's totally shit.

Thank you for the replies about memory - it IS reassuring to hear about other experiences and will be following the thread.

Just to add to the comments about ground flaxseed - I started putting it on cereal after colleague said it had helped her. I had been having lots of night sweats which have reduced - not sure if it’s coincidence.

theredjellybean · 19/09/2018 21:31

Oh God.. Memory loss is awful.
I have lost words for thibgs... And I am a doctor and sometimes cannot recall the common word for a drug or diagnosis
It's so worrying I thought early dementia too

I started HRT last year using the Gel Oestrogen as I already have the mirena. Best thing I ever did, I was struggling badly with brain fog to the point of nearly losing my job (well I did but then switched to another internally), I’ve noticed the hot flushes creeping back in some I’m wondering if my dose needs adjusting. I had to reduce my dose a few months ago when there was a shortage on the product I use and I was a nightmare my poor DH and kids all noticed “how odd mummy has got” Sad thankfully I was back to myself once the correct dosage was re-enstated but made me realise what an impact taking it has had on saving my sanity and marriage. I flipping hope BriExit doesn’t interrupt the supply of the product again as it comes from Europe.

Miladymilord · 20/09/2018 09:25

I can start taking it tomorrow. I'm chickening out. Wondering whether to do supplements for a month.

Blogsshogs1 · 20/09/2018 15:50

What makes you want to chicken out, Milady? What are you planning to take?

Miladymilord · 20/09/2018 16:16

Its the cyclical one. I've had two friends message me to say they developed breast cancer a few months after starting hrt

Blogsshogs1 · 20/09/2018 18:40

That's very sad to hear, I'm so sorry.

You have to do what's right for you.

ihatethecold · 20/09/2018 19:41

Op, I would imagine that is coincidence and they already had cancer but undetected so far.

Miladymilord · 20/09/2018 19:43

I've got a mammogram booked for mid October so maybe I'll just go for it...

Blogsshogs1 · 20/09/2018 20:17

I agree with Ihatethecold.

Usernametaken123 · 20/09/2018 20:20

On the plus side you save a fortune on heating!

Mamia15 · 20/09/2018 21:55

I too was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months after starting HRT but I believe the cancer was already growing and the HRT just accelerated the growth making the lump noticeable.

Delatron · 20/09/2018 22:22

Sorry to hear the about the breast cancer diagnosis. Cancer does take a while to develop but if there is a cancer present that is fuelled by oestrogen then it makes sense that HRT would fuel that growth. So not cause it per se but create the environment where it flourishes.

I believe this happened with me and the pill. Can’t prove it though!!

Lostandfound81 · 21/09/2018 06:36

Under 50, no increased risk found at all.

Over 50, the risk is equivalent to being obese or drinking one glass of wine a night.

Of course I totally get that for some this is a risk too far, however in my case - it has honestly changed my life. It would have to be one hell of an increase in the risk for me to come off it

Lostandfound81 · 21/09/2018 06:39

HRT is a replacement

It is replacing a missing hormone.

It’s not adding more

Blogsshogs1 · 21/09/2018 06:49

Lostandfound81 - what HRT regime are you on? What products?

Alicatz66 · 21/09/2018 07:34

I'm really having a lot of hot flushes this week ... don't want HRT as had early stage Breast cancer 8 years ago .. just had a clear mammo so don't want to risk it .. do love my wine and coffee .. does anyone find it helps to cut them out .. ( sob ) .. does anyone know if Black Cohosh is ok with Tamoxifen ?

JustDanceAddict · 21/09/2018 07:43

I’ve just missed my first period, def not pregnant, mid-late 40s. Like another poster I keep on getting cramps and then nothing. No other physical symptoms but everyone is getting on my last nerve!!

Lostandfound81 · 21/09/2018 07:56

Evocol 50 patch

ihatethecold · 21/09/2018 07:59

Ive just bitten the bullet and booked a private consultation at a menopause/ well woman clinic in oct.
My Gp was pretty rubbish when I spoke to her a year ago, said to come back when I haven't had a period for a year!
karma will get her in time I feel ( I'm kidding, she is a lovely Gp but like most, woefully inadequate when it come to peri and menopause)

fieryginger · 21/09/2018 08:09

We women do have a bum deal. I remember my first period at 11 and thinking there was no way I could do these for decades!! I had an early hysterectomy a few years back, don't miss it one bit. But my joints have started aching, my brilliant teeth, 2 of them have recently crumbled and my sex libido, well it was like some switch had been flicked at the time of my op - it vanished with my womb.

PeridotCricket · 21/09/2018 08:13

poster fieryginger are you on hrt? www.nhs.uk/conditions/hysterectomy/considerations/

fishonabicycle · 21/09/2018 08:16

53 - been through the heavy irregular periods, had 10 months til last one in may, none since them so am possibly over those now. Not too bad with the hot flushes (more warm), restless sleep is slightly improved by not drinking any liquid after 7pm, and taking magnesium citrate. My worst thing is loss of libido and dryness. Also my get up and go seems to have died a bit. Weight is fine, but I calorie count and weight train. Am thinking of oestrogen pessaries? Anyone tried them?

PeridotCricket · 21/09/2018 08:17

I think the nhs recommends oestrogen pessaries. Otherwise you can end up wit( vaginal atrophy and/or urinary tract problems. I use them, they work.

Delatron · 21/09/2018 10:45

I was told that I could have oestrogen pessaries despite a breast cancer tumour that was fuelled by oestrogen. Feel wary though. Only because of my history.
