Told him to PISS OFF!!

Had yet another phone call telling me that my internet had been hacked by someone in America, and if I hand over my computer access to this person, they could "fix it". I told him I am sick to death of these scams, he told me to shut up, and I told him to PISS OFF! AIBU to think they will probably keep ringing all the time because I lost my temper.

I used to like trying to wind them up.
"Oh yes, it was a terrible accident. Really serious. I died." Then hang up.

My mum did a brilliant one with a cold caller. She said "Hang on a minute..." and left the phone on the side. Came back half an hour later and said "Oh, are you still there?"
'Yes." said the cold caller.
"More fool you then." my Mum replied and then hung up.

I had one of these jerks going for about half an hour (I was bored) I said I don't have microsoft, I have an apple though.. he said 'oh this is fine, we deal with apple too' so I pretended to be really stupid trying to find and do all these things that he was asking me to do he was getting really pissed off. Then I said 'oh .. you mean a computer? I don't have a computer, I meant that I had an apple..as in ..fruit'. He shouting 'fuck off!' at me and slammed the phone down .. rude.

The one that happened most soon - Is that the fatal one? Yes, that one - But I died in that one and it's a bit hard to remember the details.
😂😂😂

CigarsofthePharoahs · 12/09/2018 10:33

I have TrueCaller on my mobile and so far it's proved quite useful. Has blocked some cold callers, but also blocks the upselling calls from my mobile provider!

MarklahMarklah · 12/09/2018 10:34

Had one the other day that told me that he was from Talk Talk and there was a problem with my router. A very bad problem.
I sounded duly concerned and asked him what I could do. He said it was a problem with the router (again - maybe I over did the sounding a bit dim). It needed to be fixed, apparently.

I asked him if I should give it a wash to get rid of the virus and he hung up on me.

Ginmakesitallok · 12/09/2018 10:37

With the accident ones I always ask how they got my details, and then launch into a rant about gdpr and how my life is now ruined.

coldrain2018 · 12/09/2018 10:38

my normal response is " just a moment, I'll fetch my daughter to speak to you" and put the phone down.

sometimes I say, o dear, I'm blind, you will have to explain this very slowly to me, becasue I can't see the screen"

coldrain2018 · 12/09/2018 10:39

These are truly evil people.

I had a friend once who had to give them her bank details to get them off the phone because she was having a heart attack and needed to call an ambulance, and they wouldn't hang up

EmeraldVillage · 12/09/2018 10:39

I had a new one yesterday. A recorded voice left a vm so I’ve been able to enjoy listening to it. Apparently HMRC are going to get a warrant for “you, in your name” in my local court for tax fraud unless I call them back. Which I know is exactly how HMRC operate 🙄

phoebemac · 12/09/2018 10:42

One of them threatened to come round my house and kill me when I told them I knew it was a scam!

SilverySurfer · 12/09/2018 10:42

I loathe the fake Microsoft ones and either string them along for as long as possible, by the end of which they probably feel like smashing the phone into pieces (after 45 minutes of doing my doddery old woman act, I finally asked them if Linux was the same as Microsoft Grin ) or if I can't be bothered, I tell them to fuck off and die a long, slow painful death.

katseyes7 · 12/09/2018 10:42

l get one of these at least once a day on my mobile. Even though l'm registered with TPS. l 'ignore' the call then block the numbers, but they still keep coming. lt's beyond annoying!

ShovingLeopard · 12/09/2018 10:45

We do the stringing them along too, if we have time.

Any requirement to spell something involves us using our own version of the phonetic alphabet, such as A for arse, B for bollocks, C for...., you get the picture. Some of them don't even twig at that point.

Last time I played along, and then asked him how he slept at night, seeing as his job was trying to scam money off vulnerable people. He called me a 'bloody stupid bitch' and hung up. But not before I'd wasted 28 minutes of his time. Grin

askthebarista · 12/09/2018 10:48

I just deny having a computer and they go away.

Do t suppose they'll plague you with calls, they must get sworn at a lot!

MipMipMip · 12/09/2018 10:50

I told o e they had one minute to explain why it was relevant to me (it wasn't). I got told I was very rude. Since I am always polite if clear I was a touch put out.

Had a new one yesterday. It's a recorded voice that sounds real - "hello I'm Katie xxx calling from yyyy" etc. They work automatically based on your answer. Turns out "no that's not correct" puzzles them as it's both yes and no. Grin

quarterpast · 12/09/2018 10:53

The best response to these kind of calls I read on here. Someone said that they were plagued with these calls so eventually just played along one day, kept the guy on the phone going for ages before saying 'Oh silly me, all this time I've been standing in front of the microwave' Grin

EstuaryBird · 12/09/2018 10:56

I love stringing them along but can only do it when DP's not in cos he thinks I'm going to get myself into trouble. I always think that while they're wasting their time on me they're not contacting someone who might fall for their crap.

If you enjoy reading about some master class scam baits try '419 Eaters'. It's baiting the email scammers but it is hilarious Grin

HemanOrSheRa · 12/09/2018 10:58

Last time DH got called rude and that he was a very smelly man Grin. Single did your DH shout back 'And you are a big poo poo head so there'?

charlestonchaplin · 12/09/2018 11:06

We rarely get nuisance calls these days. A combination of ex-directory, TPS and just not answering the phone unless we are expecting a call means they have all but given up.

Littletabbyocelot · 12/09/2018 11:06

My mum was got by one of the Internet service provider ones. Fortunately her Internet genuinely was so bad that it cut out just as she gave them access. After waiting some time for it to come back on they arranged to call back. In the meantime she told me & I explained. She now has call screening.

TacoFriday · 12/09/2018 11:08

The trick is to pick up the phone and stay silent. Most of these calls are dialed automatically and they are out through a real person when you say something.

TacoFriday · 12/09/2018 11:09

Go through to a real person

CruCru · 12/09/2018 11:11

I fail to understand them. So far it has worked for me but my Mum did the same and the man called her back to tell her that she is a horrible person.

MrsStrowman · 12/09/2018 11:16

I worked in a call centre selling very expensive kitchens as a student, if people were not interested I'd ask them if they would rather be listed as deceased or a council tenant as they were the only two codes that would actually get their details removed from the system. I never took offence if people were rude, I did it because I needed the money, and I could pick shifts that fit around my studies. It doesn't mean it's ok to cold call people. Surprisingly I used to earn more commission than the full timers, mainly because I didn't waste time trying to convince people who were not going to buy a fifty grand kitchen off the back of a telephone call and a subsequent visit from a 'designer', what surprised me was the number of people who did want to!
