Let me just clarify. I'm not talking normal, excited kids'-play sort of noise, and as far as I can tell, none of the kids concerned have any 'issues' that would lead to this. I also don't mean the kind of screaming that could flag a possible concern. I'm talking about the 'isn't it fun to see how much horrible noise I can make, and how loud, and for how long' competitive type stuff when they play outside. And it's not just occasional either. And it's not just one or two kids.

AIBU to be sick and tired of this and to wonder why some parents don't ever appear to do anything to discourage their children from it?

Animals don't scream, except for very occasionally, for a very good reason.

Parents have put their children outside because everyone hates that noise but its worse inside. YABU. Children playing properly are in a full free flow state of joy. That is noisy. Children should not have to be apologetic for their joy. There's plenty of time for shutting up and being good. They spend quite a lot of time at school doing that.

I hate it when parents let their Dc scream for no good reason. Drives me bonkers so yanbu!

I use to live next to 2 kids who liked having screaming contests with the 2 kids next door to them. It was HORRIBLE.

If anything bad had actually happened to one of them no one would have known for hours because I stopped looking to see if they were okay after the first week and none of the parents could be fucked to watch them.

YANBU at all OP. There’s children playing and then there’s bored kids who’ve been booted out because their parents can’t be arsed looking to make as much noise and disturbance as possible.

The first is lovely, the second is fucking awful.

YANBU , and I know exactly what you mean , there are children living in houses near us and I can tell which ones it is by the amount of screaming and screeching as one of the girls is literally incapable of doing anything at a normal decibel level , be it playing or asking her parents for a drink , every time she opens her mouth it is screaming . Fortunately I have very good double glazing . Actually what annoys me more than her screeching is the fact that in the 4/5 years that they’ve lived in the house I’ve never once heard either of the parents tell her to keep it down a bit . I’ve no objection to the other 6/7 children I can hear as it’s what I would deem normal child noise .

Had relatives kids stay recently for a few weeks and they screamed bloody murder from dawn until dusk.

I love the sound of children playing, I do not love the sound of children screaming like they’ve been murdered.

My daughter is one of those who is incapable of speaking at a normal volume, yes it is bloody annoying and yes I do tell her constantly to quieten down but she seems not to understand what quiet actually means. I've considered gagging her but no doubt this would also be frowned upon!!

It's annoying when 'adults' just stand there and let them do it. Tell your kid to shut up grrrrrr

There are lots of young families around us and we are near two primary schools. My DDs have grown now but I do like to hear the sound of children playing, laughing , splashing in paddling pools, even the sound of tortuous beginner instrument playing. It’s part of the rich tapestry of life and urban living. I am not a grump.

HOWEVER, there is a new family over the back and a few along ( terraced houses, small gardens) who have been utterly oblivious about letting their children shriek and yell at the tops of their voices all summer , except for a blessed 10 days when they went away, until late at night. Even when they seemed to be quietening down towards some semblance of bedtime, daddy would arrive home from work and start building them up into a frenzy again. Door and windows being shut Is the only plus point I can see from the ending of the long summer. ( The very targeted meteor I occasionally prayed for didn’t materialise )

I hear you. And I feel your pain OP. It does seem like there are screaming kids absolutely everywhere you go these days. Their parents seem deaf to it

YANBU it’s awful. And the parents always claim to be unable to discipline their child to make them to act sociably. There’s no reason for a NT child to be screeching and if they are it’s because the parents are failing to control them and teach them to behave properly.

I have a screamer a few gardens away . Its for no reason as I have seen her (whilst cleaning an upstairs window) just stand and scream FFS

I’ve often wondered what these children do at school. Surely they aren’t allowed to make that level and type of noise there?

It's awful, a horrible loud racket.

YANBU. I really feel that parents are becoming more and more selfish. I often see the parents partaking in similar shouty horseplay with their DC with total disregard to others' peace and quiet.

Every now and again I hear high pitched screams in the supermarket. If it keeps up I will go and have a look at the situation. I always wee a parent who is staring off and totally unengaged with their child. These same parents will be going to court with the little fucks when they are teenagers.
