to be sick and tired of children who are incapable of playing without screaming like animals?

Let me just clarify. I'm not talking normal, excited kids'-play sort of noise, and as far as I can tell, none of the kids concerned have any 'issues' that would lead to this. I also don't mean the kind of screaming that could flag a possible concern. I'm talking about the 'isn't it fun to see how much horrible noise I can make, and how loud, and for how long' competitive type stuff when they play outside. And it's not just occasional either. And it's not just one or two kids.

AIBU to be sick and tired of this and to wonder why some parents don't ever appear to do anything to discourage their children from it?

Yanbu. Ds finds the sound very distressing and I think it is very inconsiderate of parents to not try to stop their NT child doing it.

crosstalk · 07/09/2018 17:34

OP So agree. NDN's children were prone to this - and not just their little DDs it was DS's too. Truely a confusion for me to start with about whether they were in pain or not Luckily they seem to have grown out of it. I can understand someone who's deaf not being able to monitor volume control. Perhaps an edpsych or speech therapist can enlighten us why some kids screech and others don't.

When you say outside, where do you mean?
In a cemetery, you have a point. In a hospital, you have a point.
Outside that, let children be children and stop making them grow up so fast.
Try and ignore it. It's just a bit of noise.

youarenotkiddingme · 07/09/2018 17:38

We are t talking about the odd child with SN or HI walking around with a parent. Or talking about children who talk loudly.

You'd know what we mean if you'd experienced it. Its a group of children all standing in a street screaming like they have been injured seriously.

As I said I live opposite a park and screaming through playing doesn't really register anymore. But sometimes the noise makes me run to the window to check someone doesn't need an ambulance - they are standing by the swing just screaming Hmm

''a full free flow state of joy''

? Grin

Gotta laugh at that! I've got 4 kids of my own and live opposite the village primary and lots of them come from down our lane. I have no choice but to accept and love the sound of enthusiastic play ...

BUT

that very specific 'screeching your bloody head off every 30 seconds' racket is a stand out pain in the arse and there's no need for it. The family which moved into one of the houses along from us recently has a trio of them. Fuck me it's annoying. Never mind we thought - back to school this week ... uh oh ... it transpires they are home schooled ...

Oldraver · 07/09/2018 17:44

There is a screamer (youngest of three, the other two aren't so bad) at the back of across the road. She stands on the top of the climbing frame and just screeches away...annoying as hell

Bluecloudyskies · 07/09/2018 17:45

My next door neighbours kids....

Our house is up for sale..

Bit of noise ? Take it you live nowhere near a random screamer . Its more than a bit of noise and why should neighbours not be considered when your kid screams ? (Not yours, no idea if yours does) all the time ? I was a kid too , my Mother took me in if I screamed for nothing, as I did with mine .
Too many now though are way too selfish so we have to put up with THEIR screamer !

Itchytights · 07/09/2018 18:36

YANBU

It’s awful and we live next door to two brats who constantly scream and are the most obnoxious children one could ever meet.

Their constant screaming dictates the time we go to bed and when we wake up.

We just had a week away and not having to listen to them morning and night was pure bliss.

Itchytights · 07/09/2018 18:41

Bluecloudyskies

We are getting to that point.

It’s driving me nuts and I dread Saturday/ Sunday mornings especially because I know the little brats will start around 6am.

Most definitely not on and it is fucking constant.

Sorry no, there’s a world of difference between excited playing noise and screaming like you’re on fire.

3girlmama · 07/09/2018 21:36

I blame telly! You only have rewatch a few minutes of CBeebies or such like children's channels and you can see where it comes from. All kid's programs seem to encourage loudness and shouting and screaming!

3girlmama · 07/09/2018 21:36

The worst I think is Justin's House!

Nunyabusiness · 07/09/2018 21:41

Oh gosh. This is my children in the garden, especially on the trampoline.

They get two warnings about the volume and if the shrieking continues they come inside. There's no excuse for it.

powershowerforanhour · 07/09/2018 22:42

I grew up on a farm; animals hate screaming and shouting so it was firmly disallowed from an early age ( mind you mum loves peace too so that might have had something to do with it).

sanfranmarzipan · 07/09/2018 23:24

YANBU

People have got more selfish and inconsiderate - see also talking loudly on mobiles on the bus or playing a video with no headphones.

They should teach the kids to pipe down and consider others.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/09/2018 23:26

I’ve often wondered what these children do at school. Surely they aren’t allowed to make that level and type of noise there?

I work next to a school, the noise when it's break time/lunch time is like they're being skinned alive. I am always surprised that whoever is on playground duty lets them do this. They must be home with the worst headache .

And children screaming in waiting rooms. Not nerves or fer or pain. Running about screaming Angry . Parents doing bugger all and getting the arse because I ask them to consider the safety of immobile or elderly patients .

MargotLovedTom1 · 07/09/2018 23:35

Ugh I was in a giant food warehouse type place this evening (very large, very echoey) and a little girl of around two was allowed to run up and down the the aisles SCREAMING at the top of her voice. Non - fucking - stop. I was tempted to scream myself. AAAAAARGH SHUT THAT FUCKING RACKET UP!!!! might've had some effect.
