My DD has come home from her first day of secondary school almost inconsolable! She has realised that we didn’t visit McDonalds all summer!!!!
I did take younger DD, just didn’t tell older DD.

AIBU?

OP posts:
9amtrain · 06/09/2018 18:38

I go to McDonald's 4-5 times a week now that I work next to one!

Judge the shit out of me!

Smellyoulateralligator · 06/09/2018 18:38

9amtrain
And it's McDonald's, not Macdonalds! Why does half the population spell it like that?

Total tangent but I was discussing Wagamama with my teen and he was aghast that I said ‘Waga’s’ - he says it’s shortened to ‘Wag’s’

Fun fact. Who knew 😲

SoupDragon · 06/09/2018 18:41

And it's McDonald's, not Macdonalds! Why does half the population spell it like that?

Who gives a shit?!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 06/09/2018 18:44

Well clearly the op herself lacks any emotional intelligence, Loonoon, as she’s dismissed that theory already with a blithe “no, nothing’s going on, she just really likes McDonalds”. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lalliella · 06/09/2018 18:50

To all those dissing Maccie Dees - Are you on glue? I would rather eat glue than McDonalds - the food is crap, the company is a hideous global conglomerate, their so-called restaurants ruin the look of beautiful historic cities and they lure kids into eating their rubbish by giving them shitty plastic toys. Happy Meal? You won’t be so happy when your arteries are rock hard, you’re obese and you’ve got heart disease will you?

So, OP, YANBU for not taking older DD there, but YABU for taking younger DD.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/09/2018 18:53

Only when hungover or absolutely desperate do I eat Maccies. It's properly shit. But has its moments.

MsJudgemental · 06/09/2018 18:54

Lalliella Smile

Shopkinsdoll · 06/09/2018 18:57

Sorry but my 6 year old doesn’t act like that!

9amtrain · 06/09/2018 19:05

@SoupDragon me Hmm learn to spell

SoupDragon · 06/09/2018 19:08

I was simply quoting back your “who gives a shit” comment.

MissusGeneHunt · 06/09/2018 19:13

DS will bring up the most vacuous thing to 'let it all out', and we go from there, generally the real reason for the upset comes out. Bless her, it's a HUGE day, the first at secondary. Hope she's OK soon.

Terezita · 06/09/2018 19:13

That's how eating disorders start...McD as comfort eating for those tears! Not good. Find out what really happened! There are gonna be many tough days - can't solve it with junk food!

9amtrain · 06/09/2018 19:16

@SoupDragon yes, I am aware of that.

Miljah · 06/09/2018 19:22

My DS cured his Macca's habit...by working in two! They aren't bad employers, but it wasn't long before he was ordering salads and water for his meals!

So, a few things going on:

OP thinks the only 'issue' is her 11 year old DD's meltdown as it was only due to the paucity of McDonald's during the summer Hmm.

The fact that that alone makes me wonder if this whole thread is lazy marketing by Macca's.

That all of our 'global', macro angst about obese children with no clue about nutrition- is made up of a million 'It won't hurt/twice a week is nothing/it's a treat or reward' micro moments.

margesimpson40 · 06/09/2018 19:28

The OP needs a wee bit support ... School changes are hard for parents too. OP is everything ok with you otherwise, I ask because I get enraged by snarky , hypocritical c#nts on four in a bed or come dine with me or actually on here, but it's not that at all its my pain pill addiction and my 'additional needs 'that were not diagnosed until 9 months ago ... That's what enrages me, it's just difficult to say.

margesimpson40 · 06/09/2018 19:30

Nandos .... Will never eat in one .... It's just fucking chicken !!!!!

AlpacaLypse · 06/09/2018 19:44

If you're still managing to read the comments after the piling in from the vipers OP, don't worry. Shifting from being the biggest fish in a little pond at primary to being a very tiny fish in a huge pond at secondary is a massive emotional shock, and it only takes one small thing to set off the reaction. Does dd have some friends from primary who have also transitioned to same Big School? From experience (mine are all university size now) the primaries did make an effort to ensure that all their mini-graduates went into year 7 classes with at least one or two friends. Obviously this doesn't work so well in cities where there are lots of different secondaries available.

Deadpoet · 06/09/2018 19:59

It took my now 16 year old nearly 8 months to completely settle into secondary she sobbed after her first day and it was purely down to being completely overwhelmed by all the differences.
She’s just started sixth form at a completely new school, left her friends at her old school and is one of a handful who don’t know anyone. I had to remind her that it took her a while to settle into year 7 and she ended up extremely popular so give it time and she’ll settle into her new school. This is an extremely confident 16 year old who was a little teary last night

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 06/09/2018 20:00

Hopefully the summer was far more exciting than trips to McDonalds. Easy thing to fix - better that than inconsolable over a non-trip to Disneyland!

Lizzie48 · 06/09/2018 20:04

The OP seems to have given up on this thread. Not surprising really, as there have been some very unkind posts on here. I really do don't understand that. My DD1 is year 5 in primary and she's already said she's nervous about high school. I know I will be, too, when the time comes, as she has SEN and also has to wear hearing aids.

Cloudyblueskies · 06/09/2018 20:07

smell we say Wagas Grin

McDonalads got me through two hideous pregnancy’s. Big tasty is my go too hangover cure but normally it’s a chicken wrap. Smile

Nando’s chicken wings - yaaasss!!!

Iseveryusernametaken · 06/09/2018 20:17

Middle aged me almost immediately booked a flight home from holiday last week because it was very late, I was very tired (& irrational) and my hotel room didn't have a kettle 😂

GuidoTheKillerPimp · 06/09/2018 20:21

OP, was this post intended as lighthearted? Cos you know you have to clearly mark it as such, don’t you? MN gets very confused if you don’t...🙄

That’s probably why she’s given up.

Earthakitty · 06/09/2018 20:49

How old is your daughter ?
11 presumably.
I'd expect this from a four year old.
Sad state of affairs.

Leapfrog44 · 06/09/2018 20:52

Tell her eating McDonalds is disgusting and makes people fat and very sick inside. And soft drinks make your teeth rot.
