My DD has come home from her first day of secondary school almost inconsolable! She has realised that we didn’t visit McDonalds all summer!!!!
I did take younger DD, just didn’t tell older DD.

AIBU?

Are you exaggerating over the 'inconsolable" thing OP? really! Inconsolable might be a pet dying. Inconsolable might be get your shiney shoes stamped on by a bully. At least the problem is presumably fixed by a quick drive thru!

Rebecca36 · 05/09/2018 20:02

Take her on Saturday.

1CantPickAName · 05/09/2018 20:03

@MarthasGinYard why can’t your dd have a McFlurry?

AnnieAnoniMoose · 05/09/2018 20:05

Bless.

It’s a big step for lots of them, it’s just pent up emotion.

Lots of hugs and a promise to go .

It’s really not about the McD’s. If she was that bothered she’d have asked to go in the holidays.

MarthasGinYard · 05/09/2018 20:07

TBH

She's had either a crunchy McFlurry or MacD's apple pie almost every day for the last 6 weeks.

So I thought to buy in some Mini Milks would be healthier and Cheaper.

She moaned at the frozen chicken nuggets I gave her tonight....

Said they weren't a patch on Ronald's ....

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/09/2018 20:09

Is she generally ok? Seems a lot of an overreaction!

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 05/09/2018 20:11

I lived in Mac Donald’s when pregnant with dd3. Couldn’t face cooking and any other smell knocked me sick.

The other kids loved it Grin

TwoOddSocks · 05/09/2018 20:13

Secondary school? Really? Does she have additional needs?

I really really hate people making snarky comments like this all the time. It's obviously not a genuine question and is basically using additional needs as an back handed insult which is just horrible.

Most adults have cried ostensibly about something really trivial but actually because it's stressful time in their life. It's really not surprising an 11 year old would fall to bits and focus on something random.

AamdC · 05/09/2018 20:13

My son also statted secondary school today hes asleep already! We went to mcdonalds twice in a few days last week but before that i cant remember when we last went .

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/09/2018 20:14

Oh bless her.take her at the weekend.

This is so clearly not about a MacDonalds.

Hope she settles soon Flowers

MissConductUS · 05/09/2018 20:14

Said they weren't a patch on Ronald's ....

Of course not. The frozen chicken nuggets are baked and reasonably healthy. The McDonald's ones are deep fried.

My DD has always been a picky eater. McDonald's chicken nuggets have always been food of the gods to her.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 05/09/2018 20:20

Grow up.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 05/09/2018 20:22

@1CantPickAName you go to at least twice a week? What's the need? We barley go twice in the space of a few months.

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 05/09/2018 20:26

Secondary school? Really? Does she have additional needs?

Nasty

Badtasteflump · 05/09/2018 20:26

Secondary school? Really? Does she have additional needs

Well that's a shitty thing to say.

LuvSmallDogs · 05/09/2018 20:27

Aw, poor bugger. Probably not about the Macdonalds, I still remember secondary school being a smack to the face.

Going from being one of the “big kids” Primary with kids you’ve known since Reception suddenly becoming the “little kids” in a bustling Secondary with loads of new faces can be quite a shock.

Badtasteflump · 05/09/2018 20:28

Oops - x-posted with a gazillion other people.

Personally I think you're allowed the odd hissy-fit at aged eleven. I still do it fairly regularly and I'm about four times your DD's age.

MadisonAvenue · 05/09/2018 20:42

Oh bless her, it'll have been such a huge upheaval for her today that emotions come to the forefront.

For the record, my son is at McD's every day but then he works there and a meal is provided free during their shift Wink

Scabetty · 05/09/2018 20:48

Ds is year 11 and was helping the ‘little’ year 7s today. He said some couldn’t do their tie and asked random questions such as do you know x who is year 11 ... at (completely different school and town). The year 11s seem so intimidating; I still recall the glamour of one blond bombshell 😂

CrochetBelle · 05/09/2018 20:58

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar

Did you mean to be such a dick?

SweetheartNeckline · 05/09/2018 21:02

When I started secondary school I started crying in the cat food aisle of the supermarket over our dead cat. We were in the cat food aisle buying cat food because we had a "new" cat - given that our old cat had died c. 2 years previously.

I would wager she just wants to be looked after, cuddled and taken to McDonald's (like you would an 8 year old) as a treat.

It's is SUCH a big deal, starting secondary school. Hope she's ok and manages to settle alright tonight.

ChristmasPlanner · 05/09/2018 21:06

DD is year 10 and commented on how tiny some of the new year 7s were this week, wandering about looking lost, it's a big change for them.

SweetheartNeckline · 05/09/2018 21:10

ChristmasPlanner the older years used to mock the year 7s because inevitably one or two would turn up in knee high white socks which #snigger# weren't even on the uniform list. They're so so tiny. 11-16 (or 18, if there's a sixth form) is such an enormous age range.

Haireverywhere · 05/09/2018 21:20

Did she have poptarts though at least?

RedSaidBread · 05/09/2018 21:21

I don't get it. Is this a joke thread?
