My DD has come home from her first day of secondary school almost inconsolable! She has realised that we didn’t visit McDonalds all summer!!!!
I did take younger DD, just didn’t tell older DD.

AIBU?

To all those dissing Maccie Dees -

Are you on glue?

Even Prince Harry eats Nando's so get off your high horses and eat some hummus.

I think there has been some really good advice on here about wider issues OP. I don't want to merail this but I have found in the past that the best way to 'test' childhood illness, or to get the appetite going, after a childhood illness is to do the McDonald's experience.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2018 23:17

I’ve been to Five Guys. McDs is dead to me.

Lweji · 05/09/2018 23:38

Oi. Not quite the same...

Thankfully, DS now prefers more gourmet burgers.

Sparklingbrook · 05/09/2018 23:47

Ooh SoupDragon DS1 (19) is a Five Guys regular. Is it really all that? He keeps threatening to take me.

seventhgonickname · 05/09/2018 23:59

DD was back to school today.First day back is year 7 and year 11 only so it is not too overwhelming for the year 7s,they get to meet all their teachers and there are activities to help them getting know their way around school, uniform and equipment checks.
There were also 3 days at the beginning of the holidays for year 7s,1 fun day,1 introducing them to things they will do when they start and a day at Alton towers(I think it's paid for by a local charity).
Hope your dd settles in.

imadumbass · 06/09/2018 02:07

I can't get past that you go to McD's twice a week?

Oh yeah the absolute horror of this information will surely render you incapable of getting through the day.

Really, it's not healthy by any means, but it's not shocking.

SoupDragon · 06/09/2018 07:05

Sparklingbrook I was sceptical but yes, it is all that. Juicy, tasty burgers, crispy bacon, loads of fries (a large is more than enough for a rugbyplaying 18 year old and his jaded mother) but it is expensive (£20 for two burgers, one large fries). It’s a different beast to McDonald’s.

Inexplicably, you can apparently add bacon to the milkshakes 🤔 I am not sure if that is a plus point or not.

casper44 · 06/09/2018 17:26

that's is exactly what I thought!

Oooh, it seems they are expanding to Portugal.

ATM, DS' beast is Steak N Shake. A different level to McDs as well.

lcl · 06/09/2018 17:45

Omg my poor deprived kids have been about 4 times in their life! They are 8 and 10! Hardly the highlight of their life !

Gardai · 06/09/2018 17:47

Five guys is lush
Twice a week to McDonald’s ? Admitting that on mumsnet is brave indeed.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 06/09/2018 17:49

Aww, poor thing. I live near five secondary schools, this week it’s been painfully obvious who the new y7s are, they’re all so small and shiny in their huge blazers and long skirts. Some of them I know from DDs school and just a few months ago they were cock of walk at primary arms and legs too long for their old uniforms. It’s such a massive change.

Bluecloudyskies · 06/09/2018 17:49

lcl - I’m sure they will live in there when they leave home -escape-

TF4646 · 06/09/2018 17:51

I would just never have got away with it!! Hope she has a good day tomorrow 😄

MsJudgemental · 06/09/2018 17:55

Leeds2 · 06/09/2018 17:55

How did your DD get on today, OP? I hope it was a better day for her.

In other matters, has anyone had a Five Guys milk shake flavoured with bacon? I am finding this difficult to imagine!

Slumberlabd1 · 06/09/2018 18:16

I agree there is more to it than that and is finding it difficult to speak to her about it.

Loonoon · 06/09/2018 18:19

Poor little thing, she is only eleven, not a hardened MNetter who never eats junk food and bleaches all her work surfaces thrice daily.

As any one with any emotional intelligence will deduce this isn’t about a hamburger and milkshake but about being overwhelmed and wanting the comfort and security of something familiar and reassuring.

I hope she has had her Macdonalds by now and had a better second day. .

Icanttakemuchmore · 06/09/2018 18:21

'at least twice a week'! Good grief it's shit food!

9amtrain · 06/09/2018 18:22

Who gives a shit?!

9amtrain · 06/09/2018 18:23

And it's McDonald's, not Macdonalds! Why does half the population spell it like that?

It's as bad as Witherspoons.

CarolDanvers · 06/09/2018 18:33

Nobody goes to McDonalds twice a week.

Do you really believe that? Grin
