Pardon my complete ignorance, but what does it actually mean if Don Jr is indicted? What’s going to happen?

what does it actually mean if Don Jr is indicted?

Mini my take is it means that there is probable cause that Don jnr committed a criminal offence, and its likely that offence would have something to do with the Trump Tower meeting. It means that the Mueller enquiry has gone beyond people who Trump alleges he barely knows (Manafort, Papadopoulos) or never really trusted (Cohen) into his family. It's likely Trump would explode with rage and frustration. He may try and pardon Jnr or sack everyone or attack somewhere (worst case scenario).

My personal view is Mueller won't touch Trump’s family (unfortunately) til the end because it would accelerate the end before he has finished his enquiry.

Gumpendorf · 05/09/2018 10:48

One of those asides... remember when we struggled to spell Papadopoulos? My auto suggest now gives me Papadopoulos, Giuliani etc. Grin

Thank'ee thank'ee for new thread, TheClaws.

So much fake news swirling round, it's hard to keep track of, so Flowers to Eponymous to keeping thread on the straight and narrow.

I largely agree with Gump's comments about Jr being indicted. Although I'd LOVE it to be soon.

Rick Wilson
@TheRickWilson
1/ Super excited today for the "conservative" media excuses for "Why Bannon isn't a great guy but the MSM is so much worse for pointing out that Bannon isn't a great guy and the New Yorker was wrong not to destroy their conference by throwing him over the cliff."
2/ Bannon is, as I've written here, in the Beast, and in my #1 NYT best-selling book (ha!), is an actively evil player who seeks to use the rules-based society and "everyone deserves to have their truth heard" philosophy extant today in order to hack and destroy that same system.
3/ Bannon is a cancer in this republic, and every electoral system he attempts to subvert into his dark, totalitarian vision. His "populism" is a thin veneer over authoritarian statism and outright, no-exaggeration fascism.
No, he doesn't "deserve a place to tell his truth"...
4/ ...in any private space, or event. He is protected by the 1st Admt for which he has a hearty disdain.
As a capitalist, I like how the New Yorker made a financial decision based on market forces. They're not a public entity.
5/ Bannon's game is to play to established institutions with a much milder version of what he says behind closed doors, a shaved and civilized backslapper who just happens to have a few edgy ideas.
"No, we'd never put kids in cages! Even if they deserve it haw haw haw."
6/ Don't be fooled for one second that Bannon wasn't directly trying to grow, foster, and deploy the alt-right for his purposes until it became embarrassing.
In Europe, he's in bed with people who make the Pepe boys look like the League of Women Voters.
7/ Bannon's ideas, record, and actions deserve scrutiny, exposure, and shaming.
Many DC journos liked that he'd blast his fellow Trump team members and looked away from the overtly fascist and racial nature of his "revolution" claptrap. They let him frame the terms of coverage.
8/ It's not that David Remnick couldn't ask him tough questions. It's that Bannon's audience and Bannon's movement get to hear their precious codewords from mainstream stages and infecting the discourse.
"We win even if we're losing."
9/ If you want to end Bannon, defeat his candidates. Expose and crush his donors. Reveal his ties to the seamiest, most grotesque racial arsonists. Infiltrate his alt-right boys club, esp in Europe.
10/ Steve Bannon is many things, but he's not a conservative.
So endeth.

Thanks for the new thread Claws. These last few have moved really fast, haven't they?

Maybe thread 100 will hit the jackpot. Grin

I would like to have some sense of what those people who are not politicians, journalists and activists make of the Kavanaugh process and the disregard for all of the norms.

Trump just claimed he's never insulted anyone as "retarded." He's done it at least twice on the radio: (link: www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-retarded-history_us_58011198e4b0e8c198a7d5ad) huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-t…

www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/09/ex-trump-lawyer-told-mueller-trump-is-too-dumb-to-testify

'Here we have the president’s legal counsel arguing not only that Trump is too mendacious to testify, but that he would look so moronic if the transcript ever leaked that it would constitute a national-security crisis. Dowd is practically pleading with Mueller to think of the greater good: if foreign leaders read Trump’s testimony, he suggests, it would be impossible for them not to conclude that he is unfit for office.'

Breaking news.

Salisbury Novichok poisoning: Two Russian nationals named as suspects
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45421445

There is "sufficient evidence" to charge Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov over the attack in Salisbury, Scotland Yard and the CPS say. They are thought to have been using the names as aliases and are about 40.

Mr Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33, were poisoned with nerve agent Novichok in March.
[...]
Metropolitan Police say they arrived at Gatwick Airport from Moscow on 2 March and stayed at the City Stay Hotel in Bow Road, east London before travelling to Salisbury on 4 March, where Mr Skripal's front door was contaminated with Novichok.

lionheart · 05/09/2018 11:50

Gordon Corera (BBC)

@gordoncorera

'Police: suspects named today as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov. Both suspects are approximately 40 years old, and are Russian nationals who were travelling on Russian passports.

It is likely that they were travelling under aliases and that these are not their real names.'

Confused

WTF Kool-Aid has Dowd drunk? The issue isn't foreign leaders discovering from a Mueller interview that Trump is mendacious and stupid: that much is already obvious to the man in the street.

The issue is the POTUS is mendacious and stupid. That's the national security crisis.

It's hardly a secret. Alas.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2018 11:59

wonder what happened to the few who said it couldnt possibly be Russia.

I've preordered a copy of the new Bob Woodward book from Amazon Uk, I know it want make me happy (as my DH pointed out to me!), but I think it's going to be an explosive read.
