Dumb starting school question!

Posting in Aibu for traffic as I’ve obviously left this very last minute!

My PFB starts school tomorrow and I’ve just realised I’m not really sure what to pack in her bag? She doesn’t need pencil cases and stuff yet does she? She’s having school dinners so doesn’t need a packed lunch. I’ve packed some spare uniforms and a PE kit but I don’t want to be the idiot mum who has forgotten something really obvious!

Seriously - day one - just the empty book bag!

I had a little panic then when OP said she'd sorted lunches on parent pay. Didn't know there was an option for free ones on there.

I know this thread is from yesterday, but to everyone suggesting taking fruit for playtime-in our area, each reception and key stage 1 child gets a piece of fruit to eat at school. I thought this was a national (English?) thing? They also get milk until their fifth birthday. After their birthday, you might be asked to pay, the school might subside until half term or there might not be enough children who like milk in the class to get through the whole allocation (so older ones then get some). Is this not the same everywhere? The milk definitely should be.

Just a water bottle and coat really. I work in an infant school and we don't ask new reception kids to bring any more than that. PE kit can go in too but they probably wouldn't need it on the first day.
Just please, for the love of all that is good, NAME EVERYTHING including the water bottle (someone else may have the same one) and show your child where their name is (ironed on the inner collar/written in biro on the care label/stitched along a hem etc.)

Our school provides fruit for all the children.

Our school does provide a fruit/veg snack for all children, but they have that in the afternoon, so the DC have to bring one in from home for the morning.

Stop fretting, we were both teachers but when our eldest started school, at the school where he taught, we had no idea what to send her with! I think she had a bright red drawstring bag with the school logo in the pictures, no idea what was in it!
