Dumb starting school question!

Posting in Aibu for traffic as I’ve obviously left this very last minute!

My PFB starts school tomorrow and I’ve just realised I’m not really sure what to pack in her bag? She doesn’t need pencil cases and stuff yet does she? She’s having school dinners so doesn’t need a packed lunch. I’ve packed some spare uniforms and a PE kit but I don’t want to be the idiot mum who has forgotten something really obvious!

Thankyou I’m sure she will! My and my husband have both booked the day off work to take her in. My son will be very sad to be going to nursery without her though.

You won't need a pencil case. Don't worry, we carried ann empty booking in every day for the first term 😁 eventually reading books may come home and a home school link book

growingboys

The change in your suggestions from a geometry set to spare pants made me smile... Smile it sounds so innocent!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 04/09/2018 23:02

Not gonna lie, the geometry set panicked me for a moment Grin

Not bottles what so ever in this bloody house. Will have to stop at the shop on the way in the morning and get her a bottle.

Be prepared for her to be kicking the shite out of you grumpy on the way home, due to tiredness & ask for food.

Actually, its prob just my DD that does that Hmm

She will love it.

MaryThorne · 04/09/2018 23:17

Sent DS for his first day in Reception today with an empty book bag and a water bottle. The book bag came home empty but I imagine a book will appear at some point. I hope they have a good day Smile

Stormzyandme · 04/09/2018 23:17

Get a bottle at the weekend, they will have cups. You dont need to go shopping before school. Have a longer cuddle instead Bear

kierenthecommunity · 04/09/2018 23:28

We never took fruit. I think they got some when they had their milk. Could imagine that coming back all squashed and uneaten Confused

I put some spare trousers and underpants for my boy in his PE kit as he was still a bit unreliable toilet wise, plus some wipes/old nappy bags in case he had an accident

garethsouthgatesmrs · 04/09/2018 23:48

I don't think you need fruit. Mine had snack provided throughout ks1. Also doubt she will need a pencil case they provide these types of things at this age. A water bottle she can do without and you can nip and get one after school. Just give the teachers a heads up so they can let her know how to get water if she is thirsty. They will have milk and a drink at lunchtime anyway.

Didn't the school give you a list of what they would need?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 04/09/2018 23:53

We just had a uniform list, didn’t have anything about packing school bags.

OP posts:
InDubiousBattle · 05/09/2018 07:33

Same here-just a list of polo shirt etc, no mention of a school bag or what to put in it!

Good luck for this morning!

Sleepyslops · 05/09/2018 07:42

Just take her book bag. School will provide pencils etc. Our school provides water bottles also. For the first few weeks we just carried the empty book bag until they started getting books home. School rule: bring book bag every day.

Don't take wellies, wetsuit etc unless it says to.

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 05/09/2018 07:42

If there was nothing about packing school bags then you won't need anything in your school bag.

Just take a book bag, there won't be space to store a rucksack

DarkLikeVader · 05/09/2018 07:44

Dd had in reception
Bag -
Water bottle
Fruit snack as requested
Sun cream
Sun hat
Packet of tissues
Waterproof trousers

Book bag
Pe kit
Wellies to be left at school

SoyDora · 05/09/2018 07:44

Mine went with an empty book bag! No snack as we were told not to (they provide fruit). Some took water bottles but again we were told it wasn’t necessary as there will always be fresh water available.
So far she’s come home every day with her book bag stuffed full of drawings/crafts they she’s done, and yesterday with her reading record and a book.

newplacenofriends · 05/09/2018 07:51

a snack for morning break?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/09/2018 12:48

Thankyou for your help everyone. She had everything she needed apart from a water bottle, so will take her shopping for one later!

MeMyselfand · 05/09/2018 19:41

Hope she had a fun day at big school. At leased she would have been able to see what everyone elses bottle was like to help her make a decision. It can be hard work picking a water bottle. Grin

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 05/09/2018 19:50

If she needed anything not on the uniform list they would have told you.

We ask that our new starters have the uniform, PE Kit, school book bag and PE bag, and school water bottle. If they aren’t having school dinner they bring a packed lunch box/bag but they are NOT allowed to bring any other bags as we simply don’t have the room for them. They shouldn’t bring any other personal possessions in as they WILL get lost so no pencil cases etc.

confusedofengland · 05/09/2018 19:53

Does the school website have any info? We were given a list of things our DC will need (Ds3 starting tomorrow) & it includes wellies & pack-a-mac (for Forest School), water bottle, fruit snack & spare clothes.

AsteroidAsterix · 05/09/2018 20:00

Is it still free school dinners for reception - year 2? Or has that been scrapped?

SoyDora · 05/09/2018 20:01

Still free at the moment AsteroidAsterix

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/09/2018 20:02

I had everything else she needed luckily. She’s chosen the ugliest water bottle imaginable so at least I don’t have to worry about anyone nicking it.
