To be so disappointed by GBBO

Leobynature · 04/09/2018 21:28

I use to love GBBO. I cannot get into it since it moved to Ch 4.
I’m not keen on Prue (doubt she has ever baked anything in her life)
Sandi is not funny
Noel looks like your mate from the pub who attended an interview far above his capabilities and got the job!

I miss Sue, Mel and Mary Berry

The adverts annoy me too seems so much longer program with the adds

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 04/09/2018 23:21

I'm really enjoying it, although I wasn't expecting to. It's still a great favourite with DS too.
I love Noel, he is so funny and works really well with Sandi. Not convinced by his new haircut though...

longwayoff · 04/09/2018 23:22

Friend's stepdad? Blecch

Singlenotsingle · 04/09/2018 23:27

I was just saying to do this email evening that since GBBO moved to Ch 4, it's exactly the same. Hasn't changed at all! Ok so one of the judges and Mel (yuk) and Sue (worse) have gone, that just means it's improved.

Beeziekn33ze · 04/09/2018 23:28

Always liked Sandi and Noel has, to my surprise, grown on me. Can't take to Paul and thought Prue was all right until I saw a reference to her on Question Time in a previous post. Sue really grated (better in other programmes) but there's no one quite like Mary!

Singlenotsingle · 04/09/2018 23:28

Saying to DH! (Oh this tiresome predictive text)

HildaZelda · 04/09/2018 23:35

I absolutely hated Sue with a passion. Always trying to hard. I love Noel. He's so much nicer to the contestants too. Sue was always so condescending towards them.

TomHardysNextWife · 04/09/2018 23:40

I think it's transferred well to C4 and I really like Prue. I've used her cookery bible for years, it's a godsend for basic recipes and sauces etc. I think she has real empathy for the bakers.
What annoys me though is that the cakes tonight that got handshakes were professional standard.... over the last few series, these new contestants aren't regular home bakers. They also feature horrendous unknown cakes/bakes for the challenges that no one in their right mind would ever want to replicate at home. That spinach cake tonight looked utterly vile.

LadyRussell · 04/09/2018 23:42

The contestants did so well tonight in that heat.

Possibly missing the point of this thread.

Beeziekn33ze · 04/09/2018 23:54

TomHardy
Are you saying that the two who got handshakes bake for a living? Is that allowed in GBBO?

AlevelConfusion · 05/09/2018 00:38

Didn't really care about Mary, her claw hands pissed me off.

WTH? Shock

budgiegirl · 05/09/2018 01:11

I prefer it on Channel 4. I’ve never really liked Mary Berry, so Prue is an improvement for me. Didn’t like Paul before, don’t like him now.

I’ve liked Sandi since No. 73 days, and I think I’m a little bit in love with Noel ! And he’s really good with the contestants

Mississippilessly · 05/09/2018 11:23

The handshake thing has become really cringey.

ArcadePixie · 05/09/2018 11:24

I never used to watch it as I can’t stand Mel & Sue. Love it now

steppemum · 05/09/2018 13:09

Didn't really care about Mary, her claw hands pissed me off

really offensive disablist post.
She has a 'claw' hand because she had polio and it left her with a twisted hand.

HolidayModeMum · 05/09/2018 13:16

I wasn't a big fan when it was on BBC - I dislike Mary Berry and found Mel and Sue really annoying!!!

I love the new version!!!

sueelleker · 05/09/2018 15:06

I think the technical challenges are really unfair. OK to ask for something difficult they have never heard of; not OK to provide the ingredients with no idea of what to do with them. eg 'make the cake'.

honeysucklejasmine · 05/09/2018 15:15

Didn't really care about Mary, her claw hands pissed me off.

Fuck me. Shock

MiggledyHiggins · 05/09/2018 15:35

I quite like the judges and the presenters, and liked the previous ones too. Noel surprised me - he's really kind to the contestants and I like that.

What's the story with Prue's son?

MrsRubyMonday · 05/09/2018 15:37

The handshake also seems really cringey to me now. It was originally a sign that someone had truly impressed Paul, and it seemed spontaneous and genuinely meant. Since moving to C4 it's like he has a quota to fill, he goes around half holding his hand out and then withdrawing it, knowing everyone wants that recognition. Nobody should be getting a handshake in week one, and I'm pretty sure he gave out several.

cafenoirbiscuit · 05/09/2018 16:14

The contestants seem more pc every season. We know someone who got very far along the selection process but was turned down for being white female married and a mum. They already had a couple of those confirmed that season so wanted to shake up the demographics. Shame really. I hoped it was a meritocracy.

EglantineP · 05/09/2018 16:26

I am loving this season best of all of them - really like nearly all the contestants, especially Rahul, and enjoy Prue, Sandi and Noel. The show is bigger than the presenters.

EglantineP · 05/09/2018 16:30

As for being a meritocracy, that's naive! Of course they want a mix of contestants, they've always had one and it would be boring if they were all white, married mums

actualpuffins · 05/09/2018 16:31

I prefer it now. I did not like Paul and Mary together at all.

LaurieMarlow · 05/09/2018 16:37

They need an interesting, varied cast of characters for good TV.

It's irrelevant if your friends Italian meringue was slightly better than someone who made it to the live shows.
