To be so disappointed by GBBO

Leobynature · 04/09/2018 21:28

I use to love GBBO. I cannot get into it since it moved to Ch 4.
I’m not keen on Prue (doubt she has ever baked anything in her life)
Sandi is not funny
Noel looks like your mate from the pub who attended an interview far above his capabilities and got the job!

I miss Sue, Mel and Mary Berry

I didn't watch it last year out of protest at the C4 move but this year I got over myself and thought I'd give it a try. I actually quite like Prue, but not Sandi and Noel. I don't think they're anywhere near as good as Mel and Sue in the presenter roles! I would love to know who Paul H prefers to work with...

Tinywhale · 04/09/2018 22:24

I prefer it now. Mel and Sue irritate me intensely.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/09/2018 22:25

It’s not so much the presenters for me but the challenges- so random and complicated compared to what they used to be. In the odd serious you always had a couple “I’ve never made a Genoese sponge”...now they all know how to do everything.

BakedBeans47 · 04/09/2018 22:26

I don’t find it any different tbh. Mel and Sue were starting to annoy me so I like the change. I still enjoy it

researchandbiscuitfan · 04/09/2018 22:28

“her claw hands pissed me off”

What a horrible thing to say! I take it you know Mary Berry had polio as a child?

QueenDoris · 04/09/2018 22:28

doubt she has ever baked anything in her life

You do know who Prue Leith is don't you?

Frankly I find it so much better then when it was on BBC. Mary was just dull and MelSue not funny. Prue so much better. And Noel and Sandy are actually entertaining

SouthWestmom · 04/09/2018 22:30

Easter Toffee?

Miladymilord · 04/09/2018 22:30

Oh I much prefer it on c4.

50Running50 · 04/09/2018 22:33

Op you sound a bit ....vague

Your post lacks conviction

longwayoff · 04/09/2018 22:34

Danny Kruger? Oh dear. Thanks for the info.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/09/2018 22:41

Oh balls me too altiara!!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/09/2018 22:42

Love Sandy & Noel.
And Paul is quite amusing imo

TSSDNCOP · 04/09/2018 22:46

I miss last years singing cake adverts.

“Who doesn’t love to bake? Weirdos!”

Cake
longwayoff · 04/09/2018 22:48

Cant bear mary berry, shoot me now, she reminds me of margaret thatcher.I preferred bbc version when it was about baking, its history and technicalities. C4 is a cheaper production altogether. Watchable but not keen.

Magicstar1 · 04/09/2018 22:52

I can’t stand Sandy...her voice goes through me, and she’s creeped me out since I was a kid and she was in No. 73.
Noel is great...I love his sense of humour.
Paul is still Paul...the only thing that annoys me is “the handshake”...they’re trying to make it into a thing. Like Mean Girls and “fetch” Grin
I don’t warm to Prue at all.

InsomniacAnonymous · 04/09/2018 22:55

*"Mel is the death knell of any program for me - can't stand her & refuse to watch her.

I really like the C4 lineup & atmosphere...."*

I agree 100% with both those points. I also prefer it on Channel 4 because the ad breaks are useful.

LaurieMarlow · 04/09/2018 22:59

It's not as bad as I feared.

I miss Mel and Sue hugely. And the history bit. Sad

But Prue is fine (if I'm honest, I don't miss Mary at all), they haven't messed with the overall format and the cast of bakers are great.

Is it just me or is it a lot more difficult than the BBC version at this early stage? That biscuit selfie thing was a horrendous show stopper for the first week. I seem to remember BBC first weeks being more 'bake a nice sponge'.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/09/2018 23:01

Never mind her son - she had a 13 year long affair with her best friends step dad.

Tigresswoods · 04/09/2018 23:03

I think we've just seen it all before. I used to love it but lost interest a couple of series before it moved.

Sadly it's a tired format.

Ninoo25 · 04/09/2018 23:04

I don’t like Prue either, it’s not because I don’t think she has enough of a foodie background or anything. She just grates on me, I think she comes across as very conceited, and the ‘not worth the calories’ thing is both highly irritating and rude to the contestants. I feel it misses the whole point of the show. Baking is something that is indulgent and the show is meant to be fun to watch. She reminds me of a weight watchers/slimming world consultant or something 😂
I wasn’t a massive fan of Mary or Mel and Sue, but think they all gelled well together and made it fun to watch. I don’t like the new presenters really.

Beingginger · 04/09/2018 23:06

We gave up halfway through the last series and haven’t even bothered with this one.
Paul H is sleezy and I miss Mary, she knew what she was talking about. Pru is just annoying, she got on my nerves on the Great British menu as well.

ToadOfSadness · 04/09/2018 23:07

Michelin starred or not, for an expensive restaurant Leiths was bloody awful.

Aside from that, I liked Mary Berry, and Sue Perkins, couldn't stand Mel and think Paul Hollywood is just a sad, pompous git with illusions of something but not grandeur.

Normally I find Sandy extremely irritating but think she fits in well whereas Noel is excrutiatingly painful with his appalling pronunciation. I overlooked it in the last series because he looked OK but this new 'Elvis on a bad day' style he has developed coupled with the lack of awareness of how he sounds, has just put me off the whole thing. He looks and sounds such a prat I can't stand it.

seventhgonickname · 04/09/2018 23:07

I have warmed to Pru and Paul is just an irritant.I like Noel and Sandi but I don't think they like each other and you don't see them around when the contestants are cooking unlike Mel and Sue who seemed to strike up more if a relationship with the contestants(though I feel Noel is getting into it a bit more).
In the last series this was highlighted when a contestants oven door came off,on the BBC Melor Sue would have been in there helping but no o e did and it wasn't mentioned as a problem that may have caused to that contstants bake not being great.

ToadOfSadness · 04/09/2018 23:15

excruciatingly

MurunBuchstansagur · 04/09/2018 23:15

Don’t mind Prue.

Think Paul is a pompous prat but that’s sort of the point of him.

Always found Sue very annoying but I kind of miss her.

Liked Mel.

Like Sandy.

Noel is just odd and seems awkward.

I’m really sad it’s all different.
