I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

Did anyone catch The Dead Files on Really this afternoon? Terrifying!

Chuggachuggatoottoot · 05/09/2018 19:31

MKgal that's really amazing

MKGal · 05/09/2018 19:35

@Chuggachuggatoottoot which story? I posted a few! :)

Gemstonemama · 05/09/2018 19:37

I've a few good stories but two really spring to mind. The first is from a family member who worked for the fire service for a long time before retiring, and they aren't particularly spiritual/believe in ghosts etc. Anyhow, he's on nights and his team get dispatched to an incident which turns out to be a false alarm. Kids just messing about, but they check it out and jump back onto the fire engine to head back to base. On their way back quite some distance they get flagged down by a distressed woman in a nightdress who begs them for help as her house is on fire with her children trapped inside. She runs ahead leading them down a pretty sparse residential area. The call comes in on the radio that there's a fire close to their location, by now they have the sirens wailing. The woman eventually leads them to the house in question and breaks into hysterical sobs outside shouting 'please save my babies!'. My family member and his team have to barge the door in, fight their way upstairs and in the only room they can access they find two terrified children huddled together. Outside it's chaos, a crowd has gathered as well as backup so the children get swept off to get medical attention whilst the team deals with the fire. Eventually when it's out and everyone's more dispersed, some time later they are able to get back into the property to assess the damage. In the second bedroom they find the body of a woman tucked up so tightly in bed she couldn't have moved, and must never have woken up as the fire was spreading. The children lived in their house with their mother, who matched the description of the woman who asked the fire men to save her babies. Sent a chill right down his spine and he's never forgotten it.

The second was I lived with two girls and one of their boyfriends in a brand new flat that was built on the site of a large property that sadly got demolished to make way for these 'posh' flats. It had an upstairs and downstairs, and was kitted out with speakers in the ceiling of each room that were meant to connect to a stereo in the lounge, we didn't have one so never bothered. A few strange occurrences happened during our time there, like things moving on their own, the sound of cutlery in the kitchen and someone sighing in the downstairs hallway when there was no one home but my flat mate. It all came to a head one evening when I was in my downstairs bedroom testing a set up for my dissertation (a telephone interview recorded by my new dictaphone). I was testing a script on my then boyfriend now DH when I told him off for tapping as it was mucking up the sound quality. He complained he wasn't, but it carried on. Annoyed, I snapped at him and the dictaphone flashed and turned off and the call ended. I was furious thinking he'd hung up, swapped the batteries around on the dictaphone and played back the interview before it was interrupted by the recording of the most awful noise like vinyl scratching, a thump and a strange voice breathing out heavily. Freaked, I ran upstairs to play it to my flat mate and her BF. The speakers then all boomed to life with intermittent blasts of music although nothing was connected. We screamed our heads off and legged it, all spending the night at my BF's house. We moved out shortly after that!

Great stories @Gemstonemama. The first one utterly heartbreaking and the second one terrifying!

silvercuckoo · 05/09/2018 19:54

I had an urgent surgery in my late teens (a minor complaint in the morning, a major operation in the afternoon).
I had to stay for almost a month in the hospital afterwards. Was discharged late in the evening, returned home and went straight to bed.
In the middle of the night my dog started licking my hand and yelping very gently (a usual signal for being thirsty, he preferred to drink straight from the tap, never touching his water bowl). I scratched his ears, patted his back, all the usual doggy calming techniques, secretly hoping he would go back to sleep. No luck, so I, half asleep, stumbled in the dark to the bathroom, opened the tap, waited until he drank enough (and, as it normally happened, he made a big mess with water puddles all over the floor). I just threw a towel over it, planning to deal with it in the morning, and went back to bed.

In the morning I realised that my dog was, of course, staying at my gran's since the day of my operation, as my parents were spending days and nights in the hospital with me. There was, however, a soaked towel thrown on the bathroom floor.

Now, this is not paranormal, as it was discovered later that I was accidentally given an excessive dose of opioid painkillers daily during my stay in the hospital.

However, I never trusted my senses since. I also wonder how many creepy stories originating in the hospital settings can be explained in the same way.

I was once running the bath for my DS, had turned hot tap on and then nipped downstairs to grab my phone. When I came back up the hot tap was off and cold tap only was running. I thought I'd probably just hit the wrong tap.

Mentioned it to my mum a few days later and she said her Nan had always insisted that they run the cold tap first when running baths for kids and would sneak up and turn the cold tap off if she was in the house when they were running a bath.

Lol @LadyFlumpalot , that did make me laugh! Grin

NC for this as I’ve told lots of people irl! I LOVE threads like this! I’ve had a few strange experiences in my life, but the only time I felt terrified was when I was at uni, I rented a house for the second year with 8 other students. The landlord had recently made changes like dividing a large room into 3 bedrooms and turning the dining room into a bedroom etc so that he could get more rent! Anyway, it was an old house, slightly creepy, and as soon as we moved in little things were always happening, objects disappearing and turning up in strange places, unexplainable noises- I heard, a few times during the night, voices. So hard to explain but it was like a group of people having a conversation. I couldn’t make out the words, but they were near, not the neighbours or anything (house next door was empty and we were end terrace). The voices were threatening somehow, they’d wake me up and I was instantly scared. Some of the housemates just laughed at it, said we were imagining it and for the most pasty I tried to think that too, otherwise it was too creepy to think about. It all came to a head one night after about 3 months and I woke up absolutely terrified. I knew, KNEW, that someone was in my room. I could feel their eyes looking at me in the pitch dark and I have never felt that kind of threat. It was honestly the worst feeling. Then there was a loud crash beside me and somehow, still don’t know how, I jumped out of bed and ran to the door, sprinted into my friend’s room and pretty much threw myself at her. She was in bed, but awake because she’d been lying there scared for the past half hour listening to tapping coming from the ceiling. She was too frightened to turn on the light, and was frozen with fear. We sat up for the rest of the night, I could hear the voices so loudly but she couldn’t, they were inside my head but not. So weird but so awful. The tapping went on for about an hour, like gentle knocks coming from above us but we couldn’t pinpoint where from. The next morning, we spoke to the other housemates, all of whom had experienced something scary that night. One felt something climb onto her bed, one had horrific nightmares about threatening presences trying to get into her room, I can’t remember everything but I know we all had something, even the people who’d not believed us when we said we thought it was haunted. One of the boys left that morning to stay with his girlfriend and never stayed im the house again and wouldn’t say why. We were in such a state that my friend told her lecturer who sent two priests round to bless the house. After that it calmed down a lot, thankfully. A few litttle things but nothing so scary happened again. I went back to the city for the first time a year ago and went to look at the house and I swear, I felt like it was looking back at me...👻 sorry, that was longer than I thought!

My dad built and repaired trains, if it got frosty or it had showed the men had to go in and start the trains up or they would freeze which would cause more problems.
This particular night he was called in and started up the train in bay 13. After 30 minutes he decided to eat his snack when a knock came at the side window, a man he'd never seen before asked if he could join him. He got in but had old fashioned clothes on and no snack my dad offered him a sandwich which he took. They had a good chat, later the forman came round got in the train and sat in the seat this man was in. He had disappeared. My dad told the forman they got out and saw 2 lots of footsteps one of which was the forman and the other had stopped at a wall.

Thatsajokeright · 05/09/2018 22:18

Not nearly as creepy as any of these but my toddler called me by my name "Rachel Green" a few months ago which had me puzzled but I figured she must've heard it somewhere.

A couple of weeks ago after nap time she started including my middle name saying " say Rachel Karen Green".

Freaked me right out and I still can't figure out how she knows my middle name since I'm pretty sure it's never been mentioned in front of her...

Creepy as hell

Once my relative believed her house was haunted. So she called one of my grand aunts who started saying religious things around the house, to dispel the spirits.

I was staying at the relatives house .. the next few days we woke up and could smell really rotten stinky smell that kept increasing day by day and kept moving around the house ... we couldn’t identify the source. Smelt like a dead corpse.. we heard whistles and random noises.

At that point I was still under impression that all those things were superstitious thoughts by the relative.

A week later, my grand aunt who tried to dispel the spirits.... had her children wake up with two of them having marks of red slaps on their cheeks..

Apparently they had a dream that a mother ghost was angry that her ghost kids were killed when the dispelling happened and that she blamed my grand aunt for it.

I still don’t know what to believe

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 05/09/2018 23:55

I'm fascinated by stories like these, but that forest one has just has just made my blood run cold. DM often jokes that I'll watch Most Haunted or the likes and then ask my DH to sit outside the loo whilst I pee.

I'm a believer in 'something' but not sure what that something is. I can't explain it. I've been able to 'sense' things for a while, but I've only ever seen my maternal Nanna. I was 18 and had lived with my Granda since my Nanna passed, when I was 12. By this point my now-DH was living with us. We had 2 dogs, a rough collie aged 16 and my Sheltie puppy. My puppy slept in our room with us, and one evening started growling at my bedroom door. Our bed faced the door, and I could see the landing from bed. Pup started digging in the carpet, wouldn't cross the threshold and was growling & whimpering. DH recalls me getting up and saying 'Shit, it's my nanna' - and his reply being 'But she's dead......' I kid you not, she stopped at the top of the stairs, turned and smiled at me and descended the stairs whilst I stood frozen. I turned to DH and said 'she's come for the dog'.......... That was late on Easter Sunday night, the next morning, I found the big dog collapsed in the back garden. Got her to the vets to be told there wasn't anything they could do for her, so I left her with my DM and Aunt whilst I sat outside and had a cigarette as couldn't bare to watch them PTS. I swear someone stood behind me whilst I sat on the kerb, squeezed me shoulders and kissed the top of my head.

I idolised my nanna, and I'd give anything for her to come back and show herself, but she hasn't. I'm relieved but secretly gutted I think, I just want to see her face Sad

I often feel the presence of my late Dbro too, usually by a cold right foot, as he used to sit on my feet to wind me up. I've not 'seen' him though. My DS used to speak about him often when he was younger, and tell me he was playing with 'Dan' in his room. Or if we asked who he was talking to, he would say 'Dan'. Dan also got blamed for moving things or making a mess, but Dbro died whilst I was pregnant so DS didn't know him. It does freak me out a little bit, but there is some comfort. I do ask Dbro to leave me alone if I'm feeling freaked, or I ask DM to ask him to come home. DM keeps telling me he only wants to visit, but it still makes me feel a bit uneasy.

Thatsajokeright · 06/09/2018 07:45

@overnightangel Grin i was pretty tired. I couldn't think of another example. Blush

LittenKitten · 06/09/2018 09:07

I love these stories! Although they also make me feel a bit sad, because although I really want to believe I struggle to; when my first grandma died I wanted so much for her to send me a sign, but nothing. And now my other grandma has died, again still nothing, although we have a little robin that visits and I like to imagine it’s her (she loved birds).

Thatsajokeright · 06/09/2018 09:43

@LittenKitten some believe that its a sign of a loved one if a robin appears when you're thinking of them. So perhaps your Grandma is saying hello :)

TheWitchOfShields · 06/09/2018 09:51

This will out me...

I work in a community centre as a 2nd job. When I started 6 years ago, one of the ladies already there warned me about the 'ghost'. She described him as an old man, would walk stooped over and usually just the shadow would pass if you're locking up. Told me to just say goodnight and he'll not bother us. Obviously, I began crapping myself if I ever had to lock up, so would bring DH with me (there's a bar attached to the community centre and I used to work across both)

About 8mths later, I was in the CC side of the building and a male colleague was working the bar. There were only us two in the whole building, and I heard someone shout my name 3 times. Sounded like a female voice. I went through to the bar and asked colleague If he'd shouted. He said no so explained what had happened. Later that week, another colleague, who doesn't believe in anything spooky, mentioned she was in the bar on her own and heard a woman's voice shout her name three times but she was definitely there alone.

After those incidents, I've never heard anything else but doors will often open and close on their own, customers in the bar are aware of something being there but can't explain what (probably too much spirit). I've never seen the stooped old man, but was warned he used to be a miserable old bloke...…. I still won't lock up on my own!

IJustLostTheGame · 06/09/2018 10:02

Supposedly at work we have a resident ghost. I've never seen anything but one of the fire doors has bouts of closing itself regularly. This isn't particularly spooky in itself, but it will keep closing until you say 'this needs to stay open, thank you' and then it stays open. And then a few days later it will start to do it again.
It's not very exciting but it is weird.

LittenKitten · 06/09/2018 10:13

Thank you @Thatsajokeright that’s made me happy! I always put food out for the birds like she used to, she loved to sit and watch them.

starkid · 06/09/2018 11:33

@SpookyMuldersMum - reminds me of Donnie Darko, with the premonition and vehicle going into bedroom
