I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

I love this thread!!!! But OMG the Savernake story! Shock

My parents used to own a fish and chip shop. This old man used to come in every saturday lunchtime for years. I forget his name but let's call him Ted. He was a sweet man and used to chat to my mum and she liked him but would always complain about his terrible body odour.

Saturdays were always really busy and particularly so one saturday. My mum said the queue was snaking out the door and she was head down dealing with customers. She knew he was in the queue as once when she glanced up she saw him and smelt him.

After they closed for lunch she was chatting to my dad and said "Ah where did Old Ted go? He must have got fed up of waiting". They found out later that he'd been his by a car and died that morning. WooOOOoooOO!!!

My DH - 2 odd things in his childhood home. Not terrifying; just odd:

Family had all gone away on hols and left him alone to house sit. He was 17. (and thrilled!)

Day two or three; in the kitchen cooking when he saw a figure pass by the kitchen door heading down the hall. He froze - and noticed the parrot; who's cage was by the same door. Parrot was all tall and thin and wall eyed like they go when they're a bit alarmed. Parrot was craning towards the door to see. DH rushed to the kitchen door and looked up and down the hall. No one there. House was all still locked up from the night before.

Day or two later he walked into the kitchen during the afternoon and on one counter top in front of him was his chunky gold chain necklace. All on it's own, it was all curled round in a spiral flat and neat like a snake asleep. Sort of how you would do to pass the time. That necklace had been missing for over a year. It hadn't been there in the morning and again the house was all locked up. He left it exactly where it was for a couple of days before he had the courage to pick it up and wear it again!

cricketmum84 · 08/09/2018 18:09

Sure I have posted about this before - our dearly loved cat went missing one night. No sign of him anywhere. Next morning I was sat up in bed reading news on my phone and something bumped against my hand so hard that I dropped my phone. We found our cat dead on the lane next to our house the same day. He had a habit of head bumping me whenever I had my phone/book/magazine etc in my hand.
I like to think he came to say goodbye

cactusplant · 08/09/2018 18:27

Have been in the house 3 1/2 years. About 21/2 years ago (on Halloween ) dps auntie said she saw a soldier stood by me who wasn't really there. She was very very visibly upset but didn't tell us on the night. ( she told everybody else and we found out about a year later)

We got home and started to notice a strong burning smell a bit like cigars coming and going quite quickly but nobody had ever even visited who smokes. Then we noticed when it came and went things were happening and there was a pattern to it.
Started off small things like a door would slam or a light would turn off or you would hear a creek on the landing upstairs long after the kids were all asleep. The taps would come on full blast, occasionally the shower. Still rational explanations for everything.

One day we saw the handle move up and down when the door slammed in the room we were in and we started to notice more after that and it just got more and more. Things escalated at times. This is deffo going to out me as we told people at the time. One day the lights were flashing at the same time as the doors slammed. Another day I saw something get lifted up into thin air, moved about a foot to the left and then thrown hard over to the other side of the room - that was the only thing i witnessed alone everything else both dp and I have seen together. We have had things thrown at us. We have toddlers and there was a lighter on the floor in the bathroom so I put it safe in the bathroom cupboard up high because obviously, the next day both I and dp were the only ones in the house and we were in ds bedroom building an ikea unit and the lighter came flying through the door and hit me. We were both . It was shaking dds door at night and waking her up. One night I went to settle her and dp got up too.

Just to add as well- while all this is happening the boy in the house opposite us who is 5 is obsessed with soldiers. Obsessed. He's in my sons class and he doesn't even answer to his own name when the teacher calls he says no I'm soldier John. One day he didn't say that and I made a joke like oh not soldier John today? His mums face hit the floor. She said he didn't like soldiers at the moment he had had a weird experience and been freaked out. Me and dp were like oh what happened, she said he had come to her and said mummy I don't like soldiers, they kill children and burn houses down, she said he was terrified and he said there were people trapped inside the house and soldier john was there and there was lots of smoke and they couldn't get out. She said she was like this is silly he's not real but little boy takes her to the window and points outside. She says look there's nothing there but he is still pointing saying he can see it. Pointing at our house.
Once she was ok I went for a wee and he went back to bed to wait for me. Big loud heavy footsteps running behind me down the hall and I could feel something was right behind me. I didn't even need to react dp jumped out of bed and came running asking why there were another set of heavy footsteps following mine. I was in the bathroom terrified. Cried all that night with the kids in our beds. We went to a spiritual church and got the number for an emergency medium. It was actually two people who came out and yes they were free. They said it was a soldier from the Korean War with ptsd. We didn't give them any info. They were here about 4 hours and there was an immediate difference it had definitely gone. The whole house felt like home again, light and bright but this week it's come back.

Dp who is less easily spooked than me came upstairs white as a sheet on Monday night saying he had had hands on his arms on the sofa holding him down so he couldn't get up. Then I woke up about 4am on Wednesday morning and saw a man standing over me who had the exact same description his auntie had given of the soldier even down to the head injuries.
I'm quite desperate now. I'm reluctant to just get anybody in as I don't want somebody like a ghost hunter who does it just for fun who might end up encouraging more of this activity. We just want it gone ASAP. I'm not even convinced moving will help as when this soldier was spotted by dps auntie stood next to me we were at somebody else's house. If people have solid recommendations of a priest being able to deal with this kind of thing I'm there.

Timeisslippingaway · 08/09/2018 18:31

Aw OP I just got over the savernake story!

Deadbudgie · 08/09/2018 19:42

Cactusplant try your local Catholic Church they should be able to help (Cofe don’t do exorcisms). Do you have any connections to a solider who fought in Korean War or have any idea why it attaches to you?

cactusplant · 08/09/2018 20:23

Thanks @Deadbudgie. We have been given the number of a rescue medium who dh rang tonight. He said they can be out in the next two weeks but have other serious cases to attend first.

Absolutely no connection as far as I know to the Korean War but they said he lived in this house so maybe we have just picked a bad house?

It's really unnerving I can't explain it but piecing together what the boy across the road said and the lighter being thrown at us and the burning smell. It's really creepy

Smokeyrobinson · 08/09/2018 21:04

When my darling mom died 13 years ago I was absolutely devastated and honestly didn't think I could carry on without her. We were unbelievably close and she was my best friend. She had cancer and fought so bravely because she didn't want to leave us.

She told me 'When I'm gone don't be sad because I'll just be in the next room'. After she died I used to dream of her almost every night for months - at first I had terrible nightmares of her screaming in pain and being terribly thin (as she was in life due to her illness) but gradually as the months went on she appeared in my dreams as her old self before she got ill. She would be laughing and joking with a glass of wine in her hand or doing her housework and chatting away - all lovely normal everyday things she'd done before her illness.

One morning when I was laid in bed (I was definitely awake) out of the corner of my eye I saw a really bright light by the bedroom door, at the same time the hairs on the back of my neck prickled but I felt such an amazing sense of peace and warmth come over me. I felt incredibly comforted. I turned and just managed to see a white figure which then disappeared. My teenaged DD was fast asleep in her room but I woke her up and asked if she'd been in my room. She said she hadn't and, of course, I believed her. I knew it was my mom because the figure was very short and slight. My mom was only 5 feet tall and weighed about 6 stone. Although I do still dream about her sometimes, I like to think that on that day she had come to tell me she was OK.

Sweepouttheashes · 08/09/2018 21:15

@smokeyrobinson that is lovely. My dad and my mil have both passsed in from cancer. Dad went very quick but mil was sick for years and was so thin when she passed. I have had dreams of her healthy and fit again. And a wonderful dream of my lovely dad in a room in Wapping with all his merchant navy mates, most of whom are also dead. It was like they were all together again and had gone back to the happiest time of their lives, when they were young and sailing together. I have read that people will appear to loved ones as fit and healthy again after they have passed on. I hope you are doing ok after losing your mum and that the dreams help Flowers

Sweepouttheashes · 08/09/2018 21:22

@cactusplant moving may help lessen the entity’s presence. I had something attach to me in one of my old flats, it made a nuisance of itself right after I moved out but then faded. I do have dreadful dreams involving it and keep meaning to see someone to clear it. There are past life therapists who will also work to clear attached entities if you can’t find a medium to do it. You could also try smudging your home and doing some simple meditations picturing your home being surrounded in a bubble of golden light. And you could talk to the entity telling him gently that he is dead and needs to complete his journey. None of this should stir it up to more activity, just keep it gentle and simple.

TooManyPaws · 08/09/2018 21:44

cactusplant, CofE do do exorcisms but it's known as the deliverance ministry as exorcism is last thing they try. There should be one in each diocese.

However, it does sound more of a job for a medium or house cleanser as more a case of stuck spirits than malevolence. Burning sage may help - you should be able to find sage bundles in a new age shop or online.

categed · 08/09/2018 22:55

When i was younger my parents lost their business and pretty much everything we owned. I used to watch my dad sitting in the car and knew he would try to end his life in it.
Fast forward 5 years he is still alive things have moved on and i am in the middle of exams. I wake one morning and k ow that there is a lwtter in the mail box (external) there was nothing to cause worry that day dad was away at a job interview, the rrst of us at home. Anyways the dread feeling of what was waiting in the mail box grew. Around tea time dad hadn't returned and mum grew anxious. I told everyone to wait walked out to the mailbox and picked up a letter, sealed. Handed it to my mum and told her it's a suicide letter from dad he his gassing himself in the car!
Roll on a few hours, police etc and he was saved so ahppy ending but everything i had said was true.

Roll on another 5 years, things have improved. My mum is being sick, a nasty bug. She has diabetes but feels ok. It's Saturday morning i go into work and tell the girl i am working with my mum will be in hospital by friday and dead by the end of the week. She had 4 gps out to see her. All missed complications with her diabetes. On the monday i return from work to an empty house,no info but phone my sistera to say she ia in hospital. Fi ally my dad geta in touch to say she is very ill and was rushed to hospital but stable now. That night she had a heaty attack and was put in an induced comma. On the thursday morning they removed all medication and gave her dialisis. No response, clenched hand and nail imprint response to mention of my dad and dead siblings name but nothing else. Friday brain scan done and sat confirmation of severe brain damage basically no brain activity. That morning, before this news, i did mums tarot cards and got 5 cards when put togwther mean death! By 1pm she was dead. 1 full week had passed since i said she would be dead.
Shortly after my mum died i told my family my sistwr was 2 minths pregnant with twins. 3 weeks later ahe announced she was pregnant, dad told her he knew and it was twins. She was surprised as she had only found out a few days before and hadn't had a scan. 15 years later she is mum to twins, i was right down to the dates!

saffyBoo · 09/09/2018 09:30

Laiste

Do you think someone who took the necklace knew the family were on holiday and thought they would return it. Maybe that's what the figure was

Smokeyrobinson · 09/09/2018 09:30

sweepoutheashes thank you so much for your kind words

saffyBoo · 09/09/2018 09:40

Cactus plant

Fuck me!!! What are you going to do? Get a vicar round this weekend and put the house up for sale!

saffyBoo · 09/09/2018 09:45

Smokey Flowers

cactusplant · 09/09/2018 10:11

@saffyboo we're having the rescue mediums out to deal with it and that will be about two weeks which in the grand scheme of how long it's been happening is nothing.

The only thing bothering me now though is that they came round in April and got rid of it and it genuinely felt like a year and a half of hell was over, I was so so sceptical but it felt like it had gone. Now it's back. As they left last time they did say anymore trouble give us a call.

The guy on the phone to dh last night said that they had to go to the other house first, that theirs has been going on two years and that the last time they went it took two of them to hold the lady down and the spirit was inside her (if you had seen dh's face while he was telling him this it was an absolute picture I was sat thinking what on earths being said), anyway that was 2 weeks ago apparently the spirit was in the lady and they are having to go back already. They do all of this free of charge and it takes hours and there was a definite difference last time but it feels a little bit like taken.

Taken 1- you think Liam neeson why can't you just be my dad, absolute hero!
But then you see taken 2 and taken 3 and think of you keep letting her get kidnapped you aren't very good at your job are you?
Feels a bit like that with the rescue mediums, are you actually doing the job if we keep having to call you back?

It's horrible

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/09/2018 11:49

Creepy story I read on here a while ago - OP used to photograph interiors and went to a house that had a glass cabinet full of various ornaments.

One of them was a creepy-looking doll, so OP turned it towards the wall and carried on snapping.

Suddenly OP's assistant says they need to GTF out of there. Said doll, which she turned towards the wall, was now facing them again!!

Smokeyrobinson · 09/09/2018 12:25

saffyboo thank you.

MadisonAvenue · 09/09/2018 12:30

@lovetravel2 It's thankfully not my story! I just copied and pasted it as it'd been mentioned and people were curious.

Lucisky · 09/09/2018 12:43

When I was a child we lived in a very spooky house that was certainly haunted. I am a true sceptic, but so many unexplainable things happened to all of us. There are lots of stories, but here's two...
I was about 7 and sleeping in with my parents as my room was being decorated. I woke up to see a white transparent figure in the room. As I watched it stood first by my mother, then walked around the bed and stood by my father. Funnily enough, I was not scared at the time, just curious! It just gradually faded away.
My mother was asleep in bed and woke because she was very cold. The room was like an icebox. As she lay there wondering why it was suddenly so cold, she felt her hand and arm, which were outside the covers, being stroked. She lay there in a total panic for a minute, then unfroze and snapped the light on. Of course there was nothing to be seen.
When they sold the house, we were surprised to see it for sale again just a few months later. As a family, we reckon the ghosts had scared them away.

lovetravel2 · 09/09/2018 12:48

@cactusplant 😱 bloody hell about that lady and the spirit! It's funny it's like all this stuff goes on and unless you are exposed to it, you're completely oblivious.
I actually live in a cottage that dates back to 1750 approx. Thankfully we've experienced nothing..

@MadisonAvenue phew!! 😄

I spent the night alone in Savernake Forest in my van some years ago..... it was a quiet night.
