I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

@restlessinthenorth

That brought a tear to my eye. So glad you got to make peace.

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 07/09/2018 13:02

Really enjoying this thread!

Laiste - sounds like more than a coincidence!

lovetravel2 · 07/09/2018 15:04

@MadisonAvenue that's an incredible story. I was with you living every minute as I read it. I take it you didn't offer to pet-sit again? Also did your friend experience anything?

chipmunkcalling · 07/09/2018 15:59

Right, so I'm back home now so will add my experiences, some are my own, and some are what people have told me.
My old house was active, I lived there from the age of 12, to 18, then again from 2012 to 2017, it was an old Edwardian semi-detached house. I don't know a whole lot about the house itself, but one end of the landing and the two bedrooms at that end of the house had a really negative vibe. One was my room, and the other was my sisters. My sister said many times that she saw an elderly man in her doorway, he also used to come into my room too, and stand on the opposite side of the room to my bed. I hated it when he was in my room, he felt angry to me. There was also a time when my sister had just got home from school, she was in year 10, and she said that she couldn't unlock the door, as though someone had left the keys in the door the other side. The front door was mainly glass so you could see through to the other end of the hallway, she was a black figure, and thought it was me, the figure touched the door handle and she could unlock the door. She called out "oi chipmunk, could have at least unlocked the door yourself", about 2 minutes later I came home and said hello to her, she asked if I'd just got there, and not been home yet, so I told her I'd just got in, we went to different schools, so she hadn't seen me walking up the street. She told me about it, we were both freaked out by it, but the house was really quiet, usually you get the old house creaks and bangs, but nothing.

Another time at this house was alot later on, when I'd moved back with my son. He was about 2 at the time, and I was woken up about 3am to hear him giggling, and you know at that age they have a very different giggle when they're being tickled, he was doing his tickle giggle. So I went into his room, which was my old room from earlier, and I could smell roast chicken. A smell I associate with my dad's mum, she'd passed away about a year to 18 months previous. He pointed to the corner of the room and said nan nan. So I asked if gran nan was there, he said nan nan again, so I took that as he was playing with my nan. It happened alot over the next few months, so I know my son has someone watching over him, I'd also felt a friendly presence in my room around that time too, but smelt a perfume I've still not been able to put my finger on yet. I'm a big believer of guardian angels and stuff like that, like family members that have passed watch out for us.

Before my son was born, like a week or so, my nan, different nan to earlier, was at home alone, and there was a Magpie sat on the roof of the house opposite, and then she went out to the kitchen to make a cuppa, and saw another Magpie, as she was going back to the front room, she smelt pipe tobacco, the same type her grandad smoked, she knew something was up cuz he only appears before big events, so she rang everyone up to see if everyone was ok, and thought nothing of it, till the weekend after she was woken up to a phone call off my mum to tell her she was a great grandmother lol.

Another few, not family related ones are from when I've been at work. I worked in a wacky warehouse when I was doing my GCSEs and I was asked to do an open, so part of that was to be down in the play area, alone, doing the safety check, playing on the equipment. I was in the far corner and saw a little boy behind the counter, then when I was at the top of the play area, I saw the top of a head in the store room area, which was a platform above the toilets, with a half level wall around it. Everyone hated going up there because they all got a bad vibe when they were up there alone. Later that shift, when we had no one in, I saw a little girl on the top level of the equipment, waring a white pinifore dress, and her hair was dark, and looked like she'd been out in the middle of a storm. I was freaked out by all of this, as I was there most of the day by myself.

Another job I had was in a pub the next town over, working with my sons dad, he was in the kitchen and I was front of house. I'd been asked to go stock up the fridges behind the bar, so went into the cellar, there was some wire shelves right in front as you walk in, and behind them was where all the beer pumps were, with all the kegs, there was a man sat on the kegs, he looked about middle age and really drawn but he'd gone by the time I'd got round the other side. I'd asked someone else about him, and she'd said that she thought she was the only person to see him.

Coming home from work from that pub one night, about half 11 at night. With my sons dad, in a taxi to the next town over, where we'd lived at that point, all narrow country lanes, one with a huge dip, farms on one side and a golf club on the other, and there was a tiny farm entrance on the golf course side, on the entrance of that junction there was a man in old looking clothes, all three of us, son dad, me and the taxi driver all saw him, but looked in the rear view mirror, there was no one there. It was weird.

What's the snake forest story????

saffyBoo · 07/09/2018 17:47

Found it! Wish I hadn't Sad

Deadbudgie · 07/09/2018 17:53

Recently whilst on holiday we got a phone call to say one of our pet budgies had died. We basically let our budgies free in the living room most of the day but this one couldn’t fly. He was a brave soul climbing up the curtains whilst the others flew, he used to play with DS and his playmobil inc riding in the cars. We were so sad to lose him. A little robin started to appear at our tent door, then the next day flew in and circled round us a couple of times then straight out the door never to be seen again. I like to think it was our budgie saying look I can fly again and telling us he was fine in birdie heaven. Had lots of experiences but posted on mn before.

KavvLar · 07/09/2018 18:35

Couple of years ago now, I was on a caravan holiday, only me and four children aged 2-7. I had two in my room and two in the next room, walls were paper thin and you could hear everything.

The last night we were there, I settled everyone to bed and then went to the loo and went to sleep. In the morning I woke first. Loo had two entrances, one from my room and one from the hallway. Somehow since I'd been in there both had been locked from the inside. None of the kids had been up, they were all desperate for the loo in the morning, and I couldn't see how they could have managed it even if they tried.

I managed to pick the lock and the heater, which had been on all stay, was switched off. It didn't have a switch just a red light and I had no idea how to even turn it on or off.

Can't explain it but freaked me out.

3girlmama · 07/09/2018 18:43

@Deadbudgie that's such a lovely thing to think. Sorry your budgie died 😟

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/09/2018 18:55

When we were younger there was a newsagent on the corner and it was run by a man called mr ford. He was always crooning along to elvis and had that kind of ‘aging 50’s’ look about him. One day I was home visiting my mum and saw him driving a white limo type American style car. It was definitely him, and I thought literally nothing of it, until my mum said that Mr Ford had died.

And not a scary thing, but after my gran died my sister and I were at her bungalow and a lady was coming to view it. I was leaning against the back door frame watching my dd in the garden and I felt this overwhelming feeling of a wave passing through and around me, and outside. It was like she was leaving the house. My sister felt it too, we discussed it later.

Chalkybee · 07/09/2018 19:00

My toddler DS said a few weeks ago that there was an old lady that died that he'd spoken to. That was creepy enough, then we drove down a new road that we hadn't been down before near our house and there was a house being renovated. He pointed to it and said confidently - that's where the old lady that died lived.

Allchangehere346 · 07/09/2018 19:35

I’ve got loads but this came up the other day as mil had a spooky experience at the same place.

This is quite outing but cba to name change.

When I was in uni 8 years ago, so I needed a pt job. A new club called Rialto opened up in town in an old building, I got a job as a barmaid there.

It was a really old weird building and the guy that was running it had some weird ideas, like one week it would host a bdsm club night Hmm then the next an over 35 night. Subsequently, some nights would be totally dead.
On one night, it was totally dead. The DJ and other person on the bar went out for a fag, so I was left alone in the main room. I was cleaning the bar and felt someone watching me. I looked up and on the left had side of the room, leaning against the wall, arms folded was a man in full ww2 solider year, staring at me.
It was really strange but I didn’t feel frightened or anything- I just kind of thought “Alright then” and busier myself with cleaning.
Nothing else weird happened, and I left a few months later.

Then something very strange happened. I drove past the club with mil in the car earlier this year - told her my experience and she said “You never worked there - I did too!”

She went on to tell me she worked there before DH was born in the early 80s. Apparently it used to be a bingo hall, but in the Second World War, they used it to house injured soilders - which explains what I saw!
She also went on to say that when she worked there, she went into store cupboard and had this awful feeling of dread - like someone was there with her. She was terrified and asked “what do you want?” And a male voice replied “You!” Shock

Needless to say, no interest in visiting the club now. Confused

When I was about 7, I was visiting an elderly aunt. She was a bit of a hoarder and collected dolls. She had a row of dolls all propped up in her window, most were vintage, like 1960s dolls, naked not in good condition.
I LOVED dolls when I was a kid and I was thrilled when she said I could choose one to take home. I chose a little boy doll, (complete with his boy bits), blond hair and a blue threadbare jumper. The dolls head was hanging off by a string of dried glue and it looked like someone had repeatedly glued it on over the years. His hair was matted and he smelt like stale cigarette smoke.
I felt sorry for him for some reason so I took him home and called him Christopher.
As soon as I got the doll home, I became frightened of it. I didn't want to be alone in a room with it.
I was about 6 at the time, so the memories aren't clear, but I had a bad feeling about that doll. His face seemed to change and he gave off strange vibes.
I had another doll that spoke when you pulled the string and I told my mum " I have 2 dolls that talk, my talking doll and Christopher". My mum said " Christopher doesn't talk". And I said " he does but he says bad things and he sounds like an old man, I don't like him". My mum told me this years later.
It got to the point where I wouldn't go in a room of Christopher was in there and I remember merrily playing on my rocking horse, looking down and there was his head.
My mum had enough and threw it in the bin without telling me as I had a strange need to keep him.
Somehow I knew he was gone and as the bin men took our rubbish away thay day, I shuddered and said " Christopher's gone, I'm happy again now".

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 07/09/2018 20:41

That was typed in paragraphs sorry everyone.

user1471453601 · 07/09/2018 20:59

Not very "woo" but neither am i. One day on my way to work I got an overwhelming feeling that I needed to ring my Mum. We had a cast iron rule that we didn't phone each other in the working day, only afterwards. I rang and she asked if my sister had told me that my aunt had died that morning.. She hadnt.

A week after Mum died, I was reading my newspaper, drinking my coffee when the door bell rang. Went to the door, no one there. Sat down again, same thing happened twice more. Rang my DD and told her she needed to fix the doorbell when she came home (she was on holiday, and we share a house). She said, that's odd your Mums doorbell used to do that. I looked at the time And realised it was exactly a week since Mum had died, and the time.

As I said I don't have a "woow" bone in my body. So it's all coincidence

Pinky333777 · 07/09/2018 21:05

Does anyone listen to The Parapod?

TinkysWinky · 07/09/2018 21:46

I have one, from when we lived in England (Manchester) - before we moved home, we lived in an old victorian house converted into rented flats, which had a basement which used to be servants quarters where the washing machines were (we were the ground floor flat), it had loads of original features and was just gorgeous.

Plenty of times we were sat in the living room which had glass doors between it and the hall which we had put voile curtains over and saw the outline of a figure walk down the hall through to the bedroom.

One night I woke in the small hours to the bedroom door opening and then what I thought was my now DH standing right by my side of the bed looking at me. I asked him was he ok and my actual DH rolled over in the bed beside me! I looked back and the figure was gone. I figured I may have dreamt the figure but I didnt dream the door (always closed at night) opening, it was wide open next morning.

Another time - we had been a bit lazy about unpacking boxes and they were all piled up in one corner of our bedroom. The flat was badly heated and we had been using convection heaters, one of which DH had mistakenly left on while we slept. In the middle of the night one of the boxes, all of which had been piled up neatly and securely for quite a few weeks fell and woke us up. The left on heater was glowing red hot and looked as if it was about to burst into flames. Im not at all a woo person but I genuinely think the 'ghost' was warning us about it.

SamanthaH92 · 07/09/2018 22:00

We've had a few things happen in our house since the end of january this year, paperwork that was three rooms away from the kitchen ending up in the fridge, wierd noises and feelings of being watched but a few weeks after i had my second daughter in july was the wierdest for me. It was earlier ours of the morning ( had had plenty of naps so wasn't sleep deprived and was actually quite wide awake) baby wasn't settling so i put her in her moses basket and tucked her in. I was sat on the end of the bed when i heard a mans voice say "sh sh sh its ok" i looked over to the moses baket and no one there. OH was fast asleep. A few minutes later DD1 started screaming and shouting no which scared me more. OH thought i was being silly but i mentioned it to MIL she said she has heard a mans voice over the baby monitor the night i stayed in hospital having DD2. Basic baby monitor so nobody can link up to it. I also quite often hear what i think is DD1 running round in her room on a night so go in a few seconds later and shes fast asleep in the same place. I also heard what i thought was her opening and closing her draws late the other night so burst in the rooms only to find her asleep. DD2 baby bouncer also started bouncing on its own the other day with her in it x

TittyFahLaEtcetera · 08/09/2018 01:38

I've posted a few woo things under different usernames, but this is my most recent episode.

Earlier this year the light in my bathroom started flickering. It's done it in the past and I've replaced the bulb, with an energy saving bulb, so it should last years, but then it started up again. I assumed the wiring must be faulty.

One night it flickered really badly before hoing out completely. I switched it off and made a note to replace the bulb asap. Then DS used the bathroom, not knowing, and pulled the cord. The light went on and was fine.

I walked past and noticed the light was working and was speaking to DS whilst I was still in the hall. Saying I was surprised the light was working. I stepped over the threshold and the light started flickering again. I stepped back out - light ok again. DS commented how weird it was as I laughed. I started stepping in and out of the room and the light alternated between flickering and working.

Finally in jest, I looked at the flickering light and said, "OK, we've all had fun, do you think all this can stop now please?" The light stopped flickering. DS and I looked at each other and said, "Weeeeeird!"

The light was fine for quite a few more weeks, then started up again when I was on the loo. DS wasn't around this time, so I just signed and said, "Oh please, will you just STOP this?" It stopped again.

The last time it happened, it flickered once. I said, "NO!" and it stopped again.

There's been three other things happen - the microwave started beeping at random one day. DS shouted, "Hey!" and it stopped. The shower setting was turned up way too high and we never adjust it.

The last one actually made me feel quite protected. I've got a neighbour that is mostly harmless, but one day he knocked on my door drunk, invited himself in, overstayed his welcome, insulted me, then tried to kiss me, leaving me very shaken. I avoided him like the plague, then one day I noticed the cover to my front door's spyhole was closed. I usually leave it open as my fingers are hypermobile and struggle to open it quickly. I fumbled about until I got it open again. Next time I saw dodgy neighbour, he asked if we'd had a nice holiday. I said we'd not been away. He said he thought we had, because he'd not seen my hall light shining through the spyhole for the last few weeks and that was usually how he knew I was in and knocked for a chat.

DS was adamant he'd not closed it, he actually didn't know you could as I leave it open. I felt like something did that for me to give him a few weeks to calm down and back off, and for me to feel safer again. I now close it when I don't want to be bothered, but he's left me alone since then.

I also sense when people are ill/dying. My DM and I often can't get through to each other on the phone because we are both ringing each other st the same time, or else one of us will ring just as the other is thinking of us or telling someone "I must speak to/call Titty/DM". I spent my whole life pretending I didn't really have these experiences and there were rational explanations, but they keep happening.

Telling my DParents about thought thing, DF pipes up,"Your Nan had things like that happen to her all the time!" DF is convinced I'm a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and can perceive things others can't. DS is similar and DF reckons he is too. I posted on the creepy kids thread recently that DS is 11 and still remembers a past life, complete with cause of death and his brother's name. He's been talking about it since he was old enough to string a sentence together, and he spoke from a young age! He used to beg to go home when we were home and say he meant to his other family, and used to talk about his other Mum. As he got older he said he preferred me to his other Mum because I'm not as strict. But then it sounds like his past life was In the 50s/60s.

It's funny, because DF is into science and logic and I thought he'd dismiss it out of hand, but he totally believes that some people can perceive more than others, and that is a logical viewpoint.

I am reading through these as fast as possible so that I can find out if anyone has mentioned the Dear David story - is is still happenning, is the poor man still being haunted, or have I been taken in by a hoax? Please someone put me out of my misery!

Loving all the stories!

@MKGal thanks so much for your stories, I've only just read them.

When my dd was 7 she went through a stage of being scared of everything. It was so bad she wouldn't even go upstairs or down by herself. I took it as a phase and within a few months she gradually started to be less scared and would go upstairs and down ( only in daytime ).

One night I took her to bed as usual and waited for her to sleep. It was just me and dd in the house and I went back downstairs for another cup of tea before I went to bed myself.

I like the living room to be tidy before I go to bed so I straightened the rug and plumped the sofa cushions ( sad, I know, but I hate to get up to a mess!)

I went to bed and fell asleep. It was light when I heard dd running up the stairs. She got to my door and pushed it open. She stood staring at me pale and said ' someone been in our house' I literally froze and went ice cold!

I told her to tell me how she knew and she started crying hysterically saying the living rooms been moved. I was a bit confused what she meant but didn't want to upset her more so crept downstairs. She followed right behind me petrified.

The living room door was ajar, when I walked in I froze again. Everything had been moved! The rug crumpled in a heap, tv pulled out to the middle of the room, sofas moved diagonally with cushions scattered everywhere, pictures on the walls had swapped places and really oddly dds toys were lined up very neatly around the skirting! I'm shaking just writing this!

My mouth went dry and I felt faint. I didn't check the house for anyone still here, I was too scared. I got on mine and dd coat, got in the car and drove to my local Tesco car park. I don't know how I got from my house to there without crashing. Once there I called my mum. She assured me there would be an explanation.

I waited for her to arrive and we went back to my house together. I was so scared. Opening the front door we went in to see the state of the living room. I almost had a heart attack when I heard footsteps upstairs! Then someone walking down the stairs.

Then standing in the doorway of the living room was my brother with a huge smile on his face!

He'd been behind it all and apparently was drunk and didn't realise how much it would scare me and dd! He had a key to my house and thought it would be funny! He apologised and put everything back, then I told him to leave.

Safe to say I haven't spoken to him in quite a while since!!

MrsJBaptiste · 08/09/2018 09:35

Great, I can now catch up on this thread seeing as it's a wet Saturday morning and OH and the kids are pottering round. It wasn't the thread to read at 11pm at night when the kids are in bed and OH is on nights!

NastyCats · 08/09/2018 11:35

@anitagreen. I can't find anything online about witches being burned at the stake on Tooting Common? Witches were not burned in England - only in Scotland and Europe.
