To have booked a hotel where 2 DC have to share double bed?

Hi, booked a 2 night stay in a hotel local to my mum's. She's not very well and we are going to visit. She is in supported accommodation, disabled, so we can't stay there. We want to be in the closest accommodation possible so we can walk and see her (getting there by train).

DC will have to share a double bed, aged 8 and 11. They're moaning. Would it be unreasonable to say they have to suck it up?

No.

Mum2jenny · 02/09/2018 21:45

They'll be ok for a couple of nights. Mine certainly would.

Hope you're mum is ok Flowers

TwoOddSocks · 02/09/2018 21:47

If you're driving I would bring a sleeping bag and they can take it in turns to sleep on the floor - they may find they actually don't mind sharing that much though!

thecatsthecats · 02/09/2018 21:48

They're 8 and 11. Isn't that the answer?

ManyCrisps · 02/09/2018 21:48

Don’t they have twin beds.

MazDazzle · 02/09/2018 21:48

YANBU

They can suck it up. It’s hard to find ideal accommodation for a family at the best of times.

Sorry to hear that your mum is ill. Flowers

Alpacanorange · 02/09/2018 21:48

Tough shit. Sorry, top and tail and don’t even bother complaining unless you wish to be sleeping on th floor.
But....
Some hotels will have twin beds that clip together as a double, worth asking.

Fakeflowersandlemonade · 02/09/2018 21:48

Mine are 8 and 9 (boy and girl) and they share a double air bed when we go camping. Own sleeping bags though.

motortroll · 02/09/2018 21:48

My kids often share (11 and 9) when we go away. I don't think they've ever questioned it tbh!

xyzandabc · 02/09/2018 21:48

Let them moan, but sometimes we all have to do things that we wouldn't choose to in an ideal world. They'll just have to get on with it, it's not the end of the world. If they're really troubled by it, put a line of pillows down the middle of the bed.

Perihelion · 02/09/2018 21:49

Ask the hotel for 2 single duvets or take your own to stop arguments over covers.

missmouse101 · 02/09/2018 21:50

Totally fine! You could ask the hotel for 2 single duvets for them on the bed though, that will surely help a bit.

CherryValance · 02/09/2018 21:52

Mine are 10 and 13 and shared a bed pretty much everywhere we stayed in America on our recent holiday, we were all in one room. It’s not that big a deal and it’s not like they take up the space of adults!

Lifeisabeach09 · 02/09/2018 21:53

Such a hardship for them!
Agree with those PPs who said for them to suck it up!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/09/2018 21:57

At that age, yes.

Now they are 17 and 14 and taller and bigger, there's no way they'd be able to share a bed without falling out!

Mum2jenny · 02/09/2018 21:59

DrMadeline plenty of adults can share a double bed so I'm guessing a 14 and 17 yo could but would prefer not to.

Knittedfairies · 02/09/2018 22:01

I hope your mum is feeling better. I can’t see what your Dc have to moan about - another saying suck it up.

whiteroseredrose · 02/09/2018 22:03

If they're same sex, maybe. We tend to have a girl's bed and a boy's bed. They're happier to share with a parent than each other.

purplecorkheart · 02/09/2018 22:04

Alot of hotels Double beds are two single beds clipped together, might be worth giving emailing the hotel to make them up as singles. Otherwise they have to make do.

LusaCole · 02/09/2018 22:05

At that age that's fine. Tell them to stop moaning and get on with it.

upsideup · 02/09/2018 22:05

My 4,5,9 and 11 year old have all decided to share adult dd's bed tonight as she's away, all 4 of them in one bed and their managing just fine.
For some reason they also end up moaning when they are asked (forced) to share but they just have to suck it up.

pallisers · 02/09/2018 22:09

on hols this year my 2 dds (late teens) shared a bed in a hotel. Don't see the problem tbh.

PatriciaHolm · 02/09/2018 22:11

Well - trying to get mine to share now (12 -13) would result in no sleep for anyone and someone eventually sleeping on a duvet on the floor!

Mum2jenny · 02/09/2018 22:11

If the dc are of opposite sex, can each sleep with the parent of the same sex if unhappy to share?

Poloshot · 02/09/2018 22:23

Absolutely fine not sure what they're moaning at, tell them to pipe down
