It just seems unnecessary when they are just upsetting theirselves and spoiling it for other people.
I’m talking
“What’s your favourite treat food from the shops”
“Nothing. I live in a wooden crab infested shack and only eat mouldy dog food and sprouts”
Or
“What funny/silly nonsense did your family do with you as a child”
“Well they string me up and beat me with birches, I don’t know if that counts”
I understand hard lives, and it’s not been a picnic personally but I (and I assume others) read cheerful threads as nice escapism and happy memories and these posters are upsetting their selves and others

OP posts:
MaisyPops · 12/09/2018 20:20

Does anyone else here ever click on threads like “I saw some awful behaviour in Tesco today” just to make sure it’s not about them?!?
No. I like to have a look at them because it's only a matter of time before rude/unacceptable behaviour will be praised and explained away with some claims like 'omg I can't believe how judgey some of you are. How awful and sneery. I can't believe you'd even think that a parent allowing their child to skate around a shop are being lazy. They're just making different choices to you. The world would be so much nicer without people who are unkind'.

Real life - mention it to a friend and they say yeah it's bloody irritating and we totally would judge someone letting their kids run riot.

Feenie · 12/09/2018 20:58

Followed by 'Oh my god, I can't believe you're a teacher, how is this allowed', etc, etc followed by 'I don't believe it anyway, you post all day, funny sort of teacher' (at ten to eight in the morning).

Hilarious Hmm

Gardai · 12/09/2018 21:09

@Persisford - that me snigger (not spit tea, wake up the baby or DH I hasten to add).
I wonder if I'm the subject of "I saw a terrible thing in the car park today" threads too.

Pamdoo · 12/09/2018 21:38

They're just making different choices to you. The world would be so much nicer without people who are unkind

Same poster in next thread has catfight with another poster for disagreeing with them...

plumcat · 12/09/2018 21:46

Totally agree. There's a lot of unnecessary negativity on the site

PersisFord · 12/09/2018 21:55

There are some v funny threads though. One about a kid insisting her new friend is called whiskers. No fun sponges yet.....

MaisyPops · 12/09/2018 22:16

Feenie
Yes. I'd forgotten about the profession digs.
Person has view on relationships forum = and you're meant to be a social worker / teacher / HCP?? Now THAT is worrying.

PersisFord
I love that thread.
There was a few I nearly shared from school but thought better of it as I couldn't find a way to suitably anonymise them. That's a great thread.

Pamdoo · 12/09/2018 22:26

What's the whiskers thread called? I can't find it!

MaisyPops · 12/09/2018 22:42

This is it :
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3362526-to-ask-you-to-help-me-decipher-this-name

(Are we allowed to link to other threads or is that TAAT territory? This is a positive link anyway in case MNHQ have a look)

There's some fabulous funny comments and not a fun sponge in sight, last I read.

DamnWhyAreAllTheUsernamesTaken · 12/09/2018 23:02

How have I not seen this thread! Best thread ever, totally agree

RedDogsBeg · 12/09/2018 23:17

MaisyPops did you miss the thread about children in supermarkets ramming people with trolleys, riding scooters and skating around? There were several responses from people justifying the behaviour. One even uttered the immortal words I take my three shopping with their scooters, why wouldn't they want to whizz up and down an aisle it's what children do. The idea that a supermarket was not a playground seemed anathema to the poster.

Catastic · 13/09/2018 02:25

HERE you all are. I wondered where the light-hearted posters had disappeared to. Loving this thread, although I'm quite upset there is no Zoflora in Australia. Clearly we are all grim and should contact our MPs to rectify the situation immediately.

Favourite, or least favourite, one of late was the thread bemoaning smart Hermione ending up with drivelly Ron. Loads of posters having a light-hearted debate. The weird Ron fans were pleading his case and then a few super weird people were suggesting she should have ended up with Snape. Anyway, it was a good read and you'd think nothing to get upset about?

On comes a poster to complain because the OP did not have a spoiler warning and she was only just reading the books now. I was pleased to see many posters politely letting her know that there was a time limit on spoilers, and then a few others letting her know the ending of Pride and Prejudice and Titanic Grin.

toffee1000 · 13/09/2018 04:32

Oh god yes Catastic. That was ridiculous. But I think people moan about old spoilers like that on MN a lot. Seriously, the last book came out ELEVEN YEARS AGO. It would only be a spoiler if we were still in 2007.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 13/09/2018 05:53

Yy Damn, just found it too. I officially love you all.

Just counting down now to one of the perpetually offended arrives ...🧐😱.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 13/09/2018 05:54

'Till

MaisyPops · 13/09/2018 06:59

Not so much light hearted but I've just discovered that if a poster says they hate the phrase 'baby daddy' then that proves they are sneering and racist. Confused

PersisFord · 13/09/2018 07:30

Yes everyone is so offended by everything! I got so worried I asked my Zimbabwean colleague if she gets worried by cultural appropriation. She tells me it isn’t really a thing anyone she knows has ever heard of.....

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 07:57

Thanks for the link @maisypops love that thread!

The harry potter one made me chuckle Grin

Just counting down now to one of the perpetually offended arrives

Or the 'if you don't have anything nice to say...' group, with their intense dislike for opinions. 'Its 2018, why should women not be all nice and support each other and all agree on everything?'
Said posters can also be found on next thread jumping on the bandwagon and mocking the way someone talks/ types or chucking the term ableist about because someone said 'bonkers'

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 08:02

I like the 'fuck sake' thread complete with fun sponges and grammar police!

Feenie · 13/09/2018 09:58

Said posters can also be found on next thread jumping on the bandwagon and mocking the way someone talks/ types or chucking the term ableist about because someone said 'bonkers'

Quick AS search usually finds said posters arguing all day and every day with everyone about everything. EVERYTHING. One has to admire the sheer time and effort it requires to be that angry all of the time! And wonder what their blood pressure must be like....

Catastic · 13/09/2018 10:16

@beeefcake come join this thread. We can have normal discussions around celery and such.

beeefcake · 13/09/2018 10:39

Hahahaha thank you @Catastic !!! I didn't realise others felt the same!!!!!

FWIW I actually enjoy celery on the odd occasion!!!!

PersisFord · 13/09/2018 11:52

I’ve just read the celery thread Grin

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 13/09/2018 12:01

Now I need to find the celery thread !

I grant you celery is mildly divisive in my family as I'm the only one who doesn't consider it sent from hell for the sole purpose of destroying the males in my house Hmm

But is there a whole thread on It? Cant say we have got more than 10 secs of conversation out of celery before?

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 13/09/2018 12:04

As an aside ive just searched for the thread using the word celery

It is truly astounding how often the word celery is used on mumsnet GrinShock
