To think a moisturiser that doesn’t cause acne exists?

Posting here for traffic!

After having a skin treatment done, my acne prone skin is having the worst outbreak ever. I’ve never moisturised but it’s so so so dry and itchy, as well as getting more spots than I’ve had had at the same time.

Cetaphil moisturising cream gave me spots, Dermalogica active moist is making it burn- I’m desperate!!

Can anyone recommend one that DOES NOT cause spots or make the many that I have worse?

Thank you!

Are you on medication for your acne?

ElainaElephant · 02/09/2018 07:49

I have acne rosacea, I swear by neals yard - I use their hydrating frankincense. I'd tried their frankincense intense, but I think it was too strong for my skin.

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 07:49

@Peachy- no. I barely got any spots anymore. I was left with scars and the treatment was for that.

I've yet to find one, I have awful skin. The only one that doesn't break my skin out is simple oil balancing or clinique moisture surge as it's a gel.

Secretlifeofme · 02/09/2018 07:51

Try the Dr organics rose day and night creams from Holland and barrett. I have the most annoying combination skin ever and this is the only thing that doesn't make my skin either dry and itchy or oily and spotty

RitaMills · 02/09/2018 07:54

I use Clarins hydraquench on my acne prone skin and the multiactive night cream (I use their cleanser and toner also) when I keep up my routine my skin is spot free for the majority of the time. Any sort of lax in my skincare routine causes spots. You should definitely not skip the cleansing and toning, I swear to god it was a game changer for my skin when I actually started doing it religiously.

PenelopeThePufferfish · 02/09/2018 07:58

I also have acne rosacea. When it flares up I switch from (downright greasy) Astral to Clean & Clear (I’m “thrifty”, so no Neal’s Yard etc for me sadly Grin).

It does the job, then I switch back.

Do you use sunscreen? I find it makes me flare up, so I’ve started only using it on days when I know I’ll be outside for longer than 10 minutes at a time, instead of every day.

GoblinSharts · 02/09/2018 07:59

Try a Neals Yard one, expensive but all natural and great reviews! My sister has very dry and sensitive skin and will barely spend money on any cosmetics but she loves it!

PretendingToBeAMuggle · 02/09/2018 08:02

In your shoes I would use a very plain moisturizer such as dermol to deal with the dry itchiness and see your GP for antibiotics to clear the spots

CandidaAlbicans · 02/09/2018 08:02

I have similar issues with many face creams giving me spots. The one I use now is Amie Morning Dew. It's cheap (£4.95 for 100ml) and doesn't give me spots. They do a more moisturising one too called Morning Light.

NiceUnusualDifferent · 02/09/2018 08:03

Avene Tolerance Extreme Emulsion

Racecardriver · 02/09/2018 08:03

Jirlique daily lotion. Completely natural, very light and very moisturising.

Rocknroller1234 · 02/09/2018 08:04

Kate Somerville goat milk moisturing cream. Swear by it.

SmallestInTheClass · 02/09/2018 08:04

I like Neals Yard rose. Either moisturiser or oil. Putting oil on your skin seems odd if you have greasy skin but mine seems to respond well to it. Glad to be getting back to these after having to put suncream on all summer, it's the worst for acne.

ElainaElephant · 02/09/2018 08:05

Yeah, neals yard isn't cheap. I used to use essentially yours, which is cheaper but they changed the formula and it didn't work for me so we'll after.

But I don't spend money on make up, so I can justify decent skincare.

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 08:05

@PretendingToBeAMuggle

I have IBS that flares massively with antibiotics so they’re a big no no for me unless I have a dangerous infection, unfortunately

La Roche Posay do a great range for sensitive, blemish-prone skin.

HalfGreekBitch · 02/09/2018 08:07

I work for a Dermatologist and she always recommends La Roche Posay Effaclar H moisturiser and also their sunscreens for patients with acne.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 02/09/2018 08:08

Poppy Austin's Organic Rosehip Oil, on Amazon, it's amazing.

I have v dry sensitive skin, but it works very well, and calms it down whilst deeply moisturising. I recommend it lots to friends, and always receive grateful feedback.

AnxiousPeg · 02/09/2018 08:08

I've always found that the Clean & Clear moisturiser helps to prevent spots. Plus it's cheap!

miaows · 02/09/2018 08:14

I have acne prone skin nearly 30 years now. What I find causes flare ups - fake tan and spf creams and heavy moisterisers. So now for spf I use oil free concelor Revlon photo one. Foundation powder max factor built in spf in that too. I rarely use foundation as this can cause a flare up. My moistetiser (my spelling v bad) is boots tea tree and witchhazel range. Love this range on my skin!. Not expensive and light enough for acne. Have gone months now no flare ups.

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 08:17

After having an awful reaction to La Roche Posay efficlar duo, i’m too scared to go anywhere near their products Sad

I second Avene...it’s made a real difference to my skin. I also find that sunscreen leads to massive breakouts so I avoid it unless I’m going to be in the sun for more than lunchtime.

VickieCherry · 02/09/2018 08:18

Is it acne, or rosacea?

I'm prone to cystic acne (but have quite oily skin) and I find I get on best with Avene moisturisers. I use the Light Hydrance in the morning and the eye cream. I use Trilogy rosehip oil at night - I've never find a night cream I get on with, and it seems to control my oily skin better than a cream.

VickieCherry · 02/09/2018 08:20

I meant to say - I find using hydrating masks helps when I have spots that need to heal. Rather than drying them out, as many spot treatments do, it seems to soothe them and help them heal more quickly. I really like the Chanel sheet masks, but they are very expensive sadly!
